giveaway #9

3.29.2010 at 8:14 AM

Last giveaway's winner is: Sarah from Soccer Chic Knits in Burien, WA. Congratulations, neighbor! Please shoot me an email at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your info to claim your prize.

Now onto the good stuff! I wanted to say that last week's comments on where your favorite places to knit were wonderful. I really enjoyed hearing about all the fun and relaxing knitting places everyone enjoys. I had to laugh at MamaMay's comment though. She said, "at stop lights or in the bathtub. It is the only 2 places I know the kids will not grab the yarn and make a tangled mess..." You are one talented lady to be able to knit in the bathtub! I love it!

I promised a new model for the giveaway this week and I have one. No, it's not me... it's my mama! She finally agreed to do a photo-shoot. Doesn't she look beautiful! Thank you, Mama, for posing for me. I love you.

This giveaway ends the series of Madelinetosh yarns, and so I've decided that there will be TWO winners for this giveaway! Yay! I have two beautiful skeins of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino in the Tannehill colorway. Who hasn't seen The Tea Leaves Cardigan? I love this cardigan, and it's knit in the Tannehill color (here's more examples of the cardi knit up in Tannehill). This is such a unique color! And, Amy said in her interview, "The worst disasters often lead to the best colorways. The best example of this is the color Tannehill." Thank goodness, for disasters! The yarn is made of the softest merino wool, it's worsted weight, and at 210 yards per skein, it's a great yarn!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. If you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address who is willing to be your shipping sponsor, that will work as well. I will send it to them and they can then forward it on to you.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 4/4/2010, telling me what yarn you would like to see featured on this blog or designer you would like to see an interview with. Is there a cool new yarn that you would love to see on a giveaway? Tell me about it. Or, a wonderful designer that you love and would like me to interview. Tell me what or who you want to see on the blog in the near future, and I will try and work some blog magic.

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

pictures and a raffle, yay!!

I received three great pictures of winners and their yarn or what they have made with their winning yarn this past week. Check out the really cool pics!

Kim from Ewe & Eye made these fantastic French Press Felted Slippers from the pretty olive Patons Classic Wool that she won.

Here's a sweet little pic of Heather from Knit One, Spin Two. Cool Twist necklace you have there, Heather!

And, last but not least, cute Angela from SoNGLaLALa is showing off her purple Patons Classic Wool.

I love it when the winners send me pictures! Thank you!

There is one more thing I wanted to share with you all... one of my blog followers, Linsay, is hosting a really neat and important raffle on her blog, Mommie of 4 Munchkins. She is trying to raise money for her Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk and raffling off Spud and Chloe yarn! Check it out if you get a chance.

Have a great rest of your weekend and I have a nice little surprise for the new giveaway on Monday! I have a new model...

Sincerely,

Ve

giveaway #8

Last giveaway's winner is: Anne (aanderson), who posted on the 15th saying that she has never seen Madelinetosh yarn before. I'm glad that I can introduce you then! Please shoot me an email at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your info to claim your prize.

This week the post is going to be sweet and short. This is the 3rd Madelinetosh giveaway in the 4 part series that I am hosting and this week's yarn is soooooooooo very pretty and I got a good looking model for you again! Meet Jared and your Madelinetosh Tosh Lace in the color Cedar.

This yarn is so squishy and soft! It is made of superwash merino wool and the skein boasts 950 yds!! The colorway is amazing in person. I'm not sure my pictures do this yarn justice. During the first MadTosh giveaway, Robin commented that Cedar is her favorite color. She said, "It nearly glows." And, I think she's right! Here's another picture for you to enjoy.

And, here's another picture of Jared with the yarn:

Thank you, Jared for modeling the yarn for us this week! Jared is Alison's husband (Alison is my cute pregnant friend that modeled the red MadTosh a couple weeks ago). Jared is also my husband's best friend from childhood. They attended church camp together as kids and got into trouble together when they were teenagers! Pretty much Jared and Alison are more like family to us than just our friends. So, thank you Jared and Ali for being my models, and I'm sure everyone here will want to see pictures of your little boy once he arrives in April (or May).

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. If you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address who is willing to be your shipping sponsor, that will work as well. I will send it to them and they can then forward it on to you.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 3/28/2010, telling us your favorite place to knit. Anne (the winner of last week's giveaway) suggested this question and I thought it was a really good one. My favorite place to knit is at home in bed with channel 934 on (which is a music channel called Soundscapes and plays very soothing music that most of the time has no vocals), and a few candles lit to set the mood. In all honesty though, this favorite knitting place is usually occupied by my little girl, my little dogs, and my husband, so the channel is not set to 934 and the candles are a hazard!

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

jasmine's French Press Slipper(s)

3.19.2010 at 9:50 AM

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week! It is a beautiful day here in the greater Seattle area and the birdies were out singing in all their harmony this morning. This past week I have been working hard and knitting whenever I have a free moment. Above is a cute little picture to show you one of the French Press Slippers that I have made (the other is still drying). I knitted the smallest size and hand felted the devil outta it (yes, with my bare hands)! Alright, I actually didn't do most of the felting - my husband did, but I was there to supervise. And, WHA-LA! We have adorable, little, pink slippers. They were really quick to knit up (honestly, only a couple hours), but then I took my sweet time getting the felting done.

The charming little ceramic buttons that I have next to them in the photo are buttons that I was thinking I might use to sew the straps on with, but I'm wondering whether ceramic is a good idea for slippers and especially slippers that will belong to my eight year old?? None the less, the buttons are cute and I couldn't resist putting them in the picture. These buttons are from Jenn at Landenroad or you can visit her on Etsy here. She and I met on Ravelry a few months ago and I traded some of my sock yarn for some of her lovely buttons. Now, I need to just find the perfect item to put them on.

giveaway #7

The winner of the Madelinetosh Tosh Sock yarn in Tart is... Stephanie!! Stephanie wrote that she has never seen Madelinetosh yarns in real life! Well, Stephanie, get ready to fall in love. Please shoot me an email at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your info to claim your prize.

This week I have a very special treat for ya'll! Amy of Madelinetosh has come to visit us and answered a short interview for all to enjoy.

1. Madelinetosh is such a pretty name. Where did it come from?
Madeline Tosh was my great grandmother. If you go to the Madelinetosh.com website, there is a cool bio about Madeline Tosh.

2. Why do you knit?
I knit because it is comforting and relaxing.

3. Do you have any hidden talents or super powers? These could of course be hidden knitting talents or superpowers.
I think my biggest talent is my innate ability to absorb everything around me. I see patterns and colors in everything.

4. If your house was on fire and you could grab only 3 things before leaving, what would they be?
IF… my house was on fire. I would grab all humans, my Pomeranian, and my knitting bag. Everything else is replaceable and hopefully insured??

5. Name one thing you miss about being a kid.
Lack of inhibition and the pure wonderment of new experiences.

6. What’s your worst knitting or dyeing disaster?
The worst disasters often lead to the best colorways. The best example of this is the color Tannehill.

7. How do you come up with the names of your dyed yarns?
Most of the color names come from classic books or movies that influenced me, such as, Marie Antoinette, by the uber talented Sophia Coppola and Jane Eyre, which I have read twice, Moorland anyone? I like all of the colors to have unique names.

8. If you could live and knit anywhere in the world, where would you knit and live?
If I could live anywhere it would probably be London. I lived there in college and have such beautiful memories of my stay . It would also allow me to wear my hand knits more often, but honestly…my heart is in the wide open spaces of Texas.

9. What is your current knitting or yarn dyeing fantasy?
I had to think about that, because I am so fortunate to be doing what I want and love, but I guess it would be to have a barn with 200 acres for my production line. Then I would like to source all of my yarn from small local farmers like I do now with Elsa Wool.

10. And last but not least, if you were to be drinking a cocktail while reading my blog, what would it be?
I would be drinking a gin and tonic with two lime wedges.

Thank you so very much for doing the interview, Amy. It was a treat to have you as our guest! Now, onto the giveaway...

Unfortunately, this time I didn't have any cute models to hold the yarn for me!!! I'm so sorry to disappoint... but I think the yarn did a good job modeling itself this week anyway. Don't ya think?! The beautiful skein of Madelinetosh DK (formerly known as Worsted) above is this week's giveaway. The luxurious colorway is called Fig, and how appropriately named. It is made up of beautiful tones of warm tantalizing browns with touches of deep luscious purple that is reminiscent of figs when ripe and fresh from the tree. Don't be fooled by its subtle shades, I think once this yarn is knit up it will be stunning.

This is the yarn that I have knit with from the Madelinetosh line, and I absolutely love it! I made the Milo Vest using this yarn and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. The way the colors blend and unite together is truly amazing. I have yet to see any other yarn do this as well as Madelinetosh.

Please remember to mention YarnOnTheHouse if you decide to make a purchase with The Fiber Fix. Vanessa has a nice selection of Madelinetosh yarns in her online store to choose from.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. If you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address who is willing to be your shipping sponsor, that will work as well. I will send it to them and they can then forward it on to you.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 3/21/2010, telling us what interview question you would ask. Give me some good ideas for some of the upcoming interviews I have scheduled. What do you want to know? I may end up using some of your questions in the future! If you can't think of anything, that's OK - just answer question #2 above instead and tell us why you knit.

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

citron anyone?

3.12.2010 at 9:45 AM

Happy Friday everyone! I was hoping for a little advice today! My friend's birthday is coming up and I would like to knit her the exquisite Citron. Ever since the Winter 2009 issue of Knitty came out I have been stalking this pattern! I look at it probably two or three times a day! I'm not kidding. Why have I been stalling, you ask?

Well, here is my dilemma.... I would like to make one for my sweet friend (who I will not mention for obvious reasons), and one for ME!! I don't usually knit for myself, but I am really, really crushin' on this shawlette. This sensation could be lost after I knit it once, but let's assume this love affair does not wear off right away. My dilemma is that I have purchased two skeins of Malabrigo lace for this project (that I am planning to knit twice), but I don't know which color I should knit for who. The Water Green is OHHHHHH SOOOOOO pretty and refreshing, but I think both my friend and I would probably wear the Black more. Both of us would look nice in the Water Green, but the Black is so classic for such a sweet shawlette. My oh my, the woes of knitting... what am I to do?

Sincerely looking for advice,

-Ve

giveaway #6

3.08.2010 at 9:00 AM

I have 3 winners to announce this time. The 2 grand prize winners are kshotz from Ewe & Eye and NGLaLALa from SoNGLaLALa! You will each be receiving a copy of the French Press Slippers pattern and two skeins of Patons Classic Wool. Yay! And, Jessi from switchscribe, you have won a copy of the pattern alone as our runner up. Congratulations, to the 3 winners! Please get a hold of me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to claim your prizes.

Now, on to this week's giveaway!! I am proud to present a skein of MADELINETOSH Tosh Sock yarn in the colorway Tart.

My most adorable, sweet, cute, kind, beautiful, stunning, loving friend, Alison is modeling the yarn for you. Is she not the cutest?! She is in her 32nd week of pregnancy and doesn't she look great?! This is the darling friend that I knit the baby gifts for and threw the baby shower for (which turned out fabulous, by the way). She came over yesterday and I took some baby belly pictures of her on my property. When she was done posing for those, she kindly let me take pictures of her in her cute black dress holding the red yarn. Thank you, Alison!

I have not had the opportunity to knit with the Madtosh Sock yarn yet, but I have to say that just holding the yarn is enough for me to love it already! There is just something about Madelinetosh yarns that makes me drool! I love the look of the yarn when knit up, the feel of the yarn when I touch it, and the colors are AMAZING!! This color especially, Tart, is the absolutely most beautiful red I have ever seen. One lucky, lucky, LUCKY winner will receive this 1 skein of Madelintosh Tosh Sock yarn!

This week's giveaway is starting a small series of giveaways that will go through the end of March - each week I will be giving away MADELINETOSH yarn. How exciting is that?! Vanessa from The Fiber Fix supplied all the wonderful yarns I will be giving away. If you are ever in search of Madelinetosh yarns, Vanessa has a great selection at her online shop along with other beautiful hand dyed yarns, and offers FREE shipping if you purchase 3 or more skeins. Also, if you do decide to buy yarn from her shop, please be sure to mention that you heard about her store from the YOTH (YarnOnTheHouse) blog in the "how you heard about us section" during checkout. YarnOnTheHouse earns yarn with The Fiber Fix everytime we are mentioned, which ultimately means more yarn for the giveaways!!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. I wanted to add a little more to this line and say that if you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address, that will work. I will send it to them and then they can forward it on to you. See house rules for further details.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 3/14/2010, telling us what you think of Madelinetosh yarns. Have you ever knit with them? What's your favorite colorway? And, if you have never seen, felt, or maybe even heard of Madelinetosh, what do you think of the skein in the pics above? Do you like the color? Let's have fun talking Madelinetosh this week!

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

What a crazy week it has been! I've been busy prepping things behind the scenes for the blog. I have a beautiful giveaway scheduled for Monday, which will start a small series of giveaways until the end of March. You'll have to wait and see!!

I wanted to get a post in before Monday, because my weekend is jam packed full of parties and fun! Two of my friends and I are hosting our close friend, Alison's, baby shower tomorrow. Alison is a very dear friend of mine and she is having her first baby - a baby boy! Her husband, Jared, is my hubby's best friend from childhood, and this is how I met and become good friends with Alison. She is a special lady and I wish her only the best while she ventures into motherhood. She is actually one of the ladies that I taught to knit a couple weeks ago when a group of us got together. She has finished her first scarf, which started with 20 stitches and magically ended with 40, and now she is onto a little baby blanket. Go Alison! I'm positive she won't be reading my blog this evening or tomorrow morning before her baby shower, so I wanted to share the two baby knits I made for her little boy. Have a great weekend everyone and I'll see you on Monday!
