snowed in

I'm getting a little stir crazy! I've been snowed in for three days now. I'm a wuss when it comes to driving in the snow. I do just wanna say that outside of driving in the snow (which we don't get very often), I'm a superb driver. Not to toot my own horn or anything!

Since I've been stuck in my house for the last few days, I haven't gotten out of my PJ's! However, I have gotten a ton of work done in those PJ's! I know what you're thinking, and YES, I have been showering! In between the showers I've been knitting, cleaning, organizing, and today, photo editing. I couldn't wait to share a long overdue photo shoot I did back in September. Hope you enjoy the projects and more importantly the pictures!

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

As we near the day of thanks here in the States, I've been thinking about all that I'm thankful for and it reminds me how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people in my life. There's days when I feel like running away to Hawaii to be a beach bum, just because I've come across YET another dirty sock laying on the floor in the kitchen (which by the way baffles me immensely). How do socks end up in a kitchen?! However, holidays like this during the year pull me back down to earth, and make me thankful to be who I am and have who I have in my life. Not even those pesky dirty socks can run me off!! So, to all the lovely people in my life: family, friends, and you, my knitting friends, thank you for being so kind and fantastic. Love ya!

All the gushiness is over now, back to the regularly scheduled programming... this week we have the very talented and sweet Raya Budrevich of Blissful Knits here on YOTH. I had a chance to interview Raya recently. Check it out!

I'm back from Mexico!! I had a fabulous time, but I'm happy to be home with all my yarn and family of course. I brought along a knitting project, but had absolutely no opportunities to knit on my trip. I only had internet access temporarily for a couple of days, and so you may had noticed that I was absent on Ravelry and Twitter. I really had high hopes that the hotel would have at least free internet in the lobby for its guest, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Other than the absence of knitting and internet, the trip and the wedding were spectacular!

This week I have a fun photo shoot to share of some of my more recent completed projects, and a fun giveaway of a pattern I recently had a chance to knit up. This past Sunday my family and I took a little trip to the beach by my parents' house in Mukilteo and I got them to model for me!

Windschief by Stephen West

Project details and more pics here.

Modeled by: Daniel Burda, my bro. He originally picked out this yarn when he spent the day driving me around to all the yarn stores on the LYS Tour. His highschool's colors are purple and silver - thus the color choice. By the way, it's "No Shave November" at his school right now and that's why he's got that lovely scruffy face!

Another Windschief by Stephen West

Project details and more pics here.

Modeled by: Marc Jobe I just had to make a second one of these hats, because the first one was so quick and fun!

Dindy Beret by Kate Oates

Project details and more pics here.

Modeled by: Teresa Infelise She is a good friend of my brother's from school, and she was kind enough to meet us at the beach last minute and pose in the lovely hat! Thanks, Teresa! This Dindy Beret is all mine though! Isn't the color fantastic?!

And, last but not least this week's giveaway project is: Aravis by Melynda Bernardi

Project details and more pics here.

Modeled by: Jasmine Jobe I loved this cowl from the minute I saw it! I knew I eventually had to knit this up. This pattern took all of a couple nights of knitting and one skein of Malabrigo Worsted. The pattern is very easy to follow and uses short rows to create the hood. My pics are a little deceiving, but Jasmine is wearing the cowl doubled around her neck like an infinity cowl. I think this pattern is absolutely perfect ladies of all ages - including those hard to knit for teenagers. Jasmine is not quite a teenager, but she loves the one I knit up for her and plans to take it to Whistler with her next week to show it off.

Melynda was kind enough to donate a few PDF copies of this pattern for the awesome YOTH followers and I have one skein of lovely Malabrigo Worsted to donate to the pot. Take a look at this beauty...

One grand prize winner has the opportunity to win a skein of Malabrigo Worsted in the Violetas colorway and a PDF copy of the Aravis cowl pattern, and two runners up have the opportunity to win the PDF copy of the pattern.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 11/21/10. I don't have a good question for you this week, so it's OPEN comments! Have fun!

giveaway #41

The winner of the Dindy Beret kit grand prize is:

Kelly J. R.

The winner of the Betsy Braids kit is:

My friend of Mommieof4Munchkins!

The two runners up are:

Krystal who said, "DPNS, just because I have never tried magic loop."

&

Sabrina that wrote, "DPNs for sure! I will say that I haven't tried Magic Loop. I've had a couple people try to convince me to do it, but I like working with DPNs and really am not all that interested in Magic Loop. I hope I win!!"

My dearest knitting friends,

I'm in Mexico! So, please don't be mad if I cut this post a little short. My husband and I are here for two of our closest friends who are tying the knot on the beaches of Mexico in just a few days. I'm enjoying myself immensely, but of course I couldn't forget my faithful YOTH followers!

Even though I'm away in paradise, I still have a fun giveaway to share with you this week. About a month ago, I had the opportunity to do another sample knit for Alana of Never Not Knitting. This time I got to knit up her beautiful new pattern, Shawl Collared Cowl. This neat lil' cowl was such a quick knit and super soft and fuzzy in the Misti Alpaca Chunky yarn. I'm not sure whether this pattern is classified as unisex, but in my opinion, my brother looked just as good in this cowl as I did when we tried it on!

What do you think?

Wouldn't this cowl make the perfect gift for at least half the people on your gift list this holiday season?! It would for me! Also, it was mentioned in the NNK Rav Group recently that this cowl can also be knit in one skein of Knit Picks City Tweed HW. That makes the project even more affordable.

In exchange for the sample knit, Alana sent over enough yarn to knit up another cowl in the luxurious alpaca yarn. Guess who I pass that along to?! YOU of course! So, one follower has the opportunity to win two skeins of Misti Alpaca Chunky in a beautiful rust brown color and a pretty printed copy of the Shawl Collared Cowl pattern.

Squish-i-licious!

Also, two runners up have the opportunity to win the PDF copy of the pattern as well.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 1114/10. Say HI and tell us what's currently on your needles!

I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

giveaway #40

Kenoshia & Connie who said, "This is an easy one for me - I can't knit while I walk my dogs. I love the colorways, and the patterns, offered! greyowl (ravelry id)"

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

I'm excited to have Kate Oates from TotToppers back on the blog this week. Kate and I met on Ravelry shortly after I had begun blogging and she has fast become a knitting/Ravelry friend and one of my most favorite knit wear designers. I think she's best known for "Tot Toppers", but her When I Grow Up line of adult knits is just as fun! Check out all her patterns here!

Kate has recently partnered with Katie of Yarn Love to offer some fabulous yarn and pattern kits for some of her most popular designs. One of the lovely kits she now offers is her Dindy Beret with a full skein of Yarn Love's Anne Shirley. I had the pleasure of knitting this darling hat this past weekend in the beautiful Champagne colorway for Jasmine. Take a look...

Isn't the color just the most perfect neutral?!

Not to mention how absolutely darling the hat pattern is!

You can see all the sweet pictures of Jasmine in her new Dindy Beret on my Rav Project Page. I would highly recommend checking out this pattern - especially for the holiday gift giving time coming up! It only took me a few hours to knit up the Toddler/Child size! I will definitely be knitting another one of these cute berets, but the next one will be for ME!

Kate and Yarn Love have put together TWO fabulous yarn kits to be given away this week on YOTH! Take a look...

One grand prize winner has the opportunity to win the following kit that includes: printed Dindy Beret pattern, a skein of Anne Shirley in the colorway Sweet Tangerine (enough yarn to make even the largest slouchy size), a yummy Lime Peppermint vegan lip balm, a cute pink TotToppers project bag made by Kate herself, a choice of any available tee from Kate's Etsy shop selection, and two fun books: The Little guide to Vintage Shopping and Knitted Icons.

And, the second winner will receive the following kit which includes: printed Betsey's Braids pattern, a skein of Marianne Dashwood in the colorway Forget Me Not (which we have not had a chance to knit this pattern in, but we think will be a perfect match for a single color version of the hat), a yummy Pumpkin Cinnamon vegan lip balm, and a cute yellow tangerine colored TotToppers project bag.

Two runners up also have the chance to win a PDF copy of the Dindy Beret pattern!

Wow! What a generous giveaway this week! Thank you ladies for bringing us such wonderful treats. Come back and visit us soon!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 11/7/10. Back in April when Kate was answering questions from followers, Marlitharn asked, "You've been challenged to a duel. Choose your weapon: DPNs or Magic Loop?" I think that's a great question for this week's giveaway. Lets us know what your preferred method of circular knitting is. What's your weapon?

BTW, Kate's reply was, "I had to answer this question because it totally cracked me up! Definitely DPNs. I have only tried Magic Loop once or twice. Also, I really enjoy the looks people give me in public when I am using DPNs. Its like I am a knitting goddess and they can't imagine how things are coming together. I would miss that too much were I to use Magic Loop."

I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve
