giveaway #40

The two winners of the West Knits Book One collection and a skein of Hedgehog Fibre's yarn are:

Laura & Krista who wrote, "I think the one place I'd never consider knitting would be the bathroom. Just a little too busy otherwise occupied in there ;-)"

The two runners up who each get to choose a pattern of their choice from the WK collection are:

Kenoshia & Connie who said, "This is an easy one for me - I can't knit while I walk my dogs. I love the colorways, and the patterns, offered! greyowl (ravelry id)"

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

I'm excited to have Kate Oates from TotToppers back on the blog this week. Kate and I met on Ravelry shortly after I had begun blogging and she has fast become a knitting/Ravelry friend and one of my most favorite knit wear designers. I think she's best known for "Tot Toppers", but her When I Grow Up line of adult knits is just as fun! Check out all her patterns here!

Kate has recently partnered with Katie of Yarn Love to offer some fabulous yarn and pattern kits for some of her most popular designs. One of the lovely kits she now offers is her Dindy Beret with a full skein of Yarn Love's Anne Shirley. I had the pleasure of knitting this darling hat this past weekend in the beautiful Champagne colorway for Jasmine. Take a look...

Isn't the color just the most perfect neutral?!

Not to mention how absolutely darling the hat pattern is!

You can see all the sweet pictures of Jasmine in her new Dindy Beret on my Rav Project Page. I would highly recommend checking out this pattern - especially for the holiday gift giving time coming up! It only took me a few hours to knit up the Toddler/Child size! I will definitely be knitting another one of these cute berets, but the next one will be for ME!

Kate and Yarn Love have put together TWO fabulous yarn kits to be given away this week on YOTH! Take a look...

One grand prize winner has the opportunity to win the following kit that includes: printed Dindy Beret pattern, a skein of Anne Shirley in the colorway Sweet Tangerine (enough yarn to make even the largest slouchy size), a yummy Lime Peppermint vegan lip balm, a cute pink TotToppers project bag made by Kate herself, a choice of any available tee from Kate's Etsy shop selection, and two fun books: The Little guide to Vintage Shopping and Knitted Icons.

And, the second winner will receive the following kit which includes: printed Betsey's Braids pattern, a skein of Marianne Dashwood in the colorway Forget Me Not (which we have not had a chance to knit this pattern in, but we think will be a perfect match for a single color version of the hat), a yummy Pumpkin Cinnamon vegan lip balm, and a cute yellow tangerine colored TotToppers project bag.

Two runners up also have the chance to win a PDF copy of the Dindy Beret pattern!

Wow! What a generous giveaway this week! Thank you ladies for bringing us such wonderful treats. Come back and visit us soon!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 11/7/10. Back in April when Kate was answering questions from followers, Marlitharn asked, "You've been challenged to a duel. Choose your weapon: DPNs or Magic Loop?" I think that's a great question for this week's giveaway. Lets us know what your preferred method of circular knitting is. What's your weapon?

BTW, Kate's reply was, "I had to answer this question because it totally cracked me up! Definitely DPNs. I have only tried Magic Loop once or twice. Also, I really enjoy the looks people give me in public when I am using DPNs. Its like I am a knitting goddess and they can't imagine how things are coming together. I would miss that too much were I to use Magic Loop."

I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

I like using two circs.
Thanks for the gorgeous offer this week!

DPNs for sure... they're so much fancier looking! lol

Usually DPNs, but it depends on the project. I'm great on hats, but tried DPNs for mitts once and they looked awful!

I have not tried Magic loop yet and DPNs are not my favorite way to knit in a circle, so I would choose just circular needles.

I prefer DPNs.

From jepkey on Ravelry...DPNs all the way!

Definately DPNs, they were a little awkward to get used to but now thier a breeze! Love em!

Tried magic loop but they boing out all over the place so I'm a DPN gal.

No question, Magic loop! (But all those dpn points sure would come in handy in a duel . . .

Rachel D. said...

Right now I prefer DPNs but I'm really interested in learning magic loop to expand my knitting skills.

DPN's as I've never done Magic Loop and I don't know how. I at least know how to use DPN's :D

CrocheterFrmCA said...

I can do both... but love to magic loop esp. when getting socks done -it helps get over the second sock syndrome.:-)

I love my dpns , but they have stopped loving me! My hands hurt when I use them now, so I've switched to two circs instead. :) I miss my beautiful dpns. samm

I prefer DPN only because I have not yet tried the magic loop yet. Those hat patterns are just what I need to get ready for the snow!

Magic loop - all the time!! I can't get the hang of using DPNs. I've tried, but they just don't do it for me. I knit a lot of hats and gloves and magic loop just plain makes this so easy!!

I a duel of needles, magic loop would be me weapon of choice. I love watching people fiqure out how I knit 2 socks at once on only one needle.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who still likes two circs, although I use DPNs a lot too.

DPN's for sure!!! When I am doing something that small!! Right now I have been doing mostly large shawls. But met Kate last night and then found this this morning.... how fun!

Magic Loop all the way! Used to be a DPNer, but..... I converted!

xDPN's most def if I intend to finish the project. There is absolutely no magic in magic loop for me.Except that I can magically knit for days and accomplish absolutely nothing...lol

It's dpns for me ... maybe because i haven't tried magic loop yet. I keep saying I'll start a new project just to learn a new skill (like magic loop), but I have so many wip projects that I haven't found the time yet! (Thanks so much for this chance!)

Magic Loop works fine for me. :)

Someday I wanna learn how do do the Magic Loop. But until then, I'm a DPN kinda gal.

DPNS for sure! I'm so glad Tot Toppers are back! Cute patterns!

DPNs! I was scared of them until recently & now I wonder how I ever lived without them!!!

Honestly my favorite is to buy the 9" circs if I need to work on something that's small in diameter. If I have to decrease on something like a hat I'll work on circs, using my pseudo-magic loop method if needed, until I absolutely MUST switch to DPNs. Both magic loop and DPNs seem very fiddly to me.

Rhonda said...

So far, DPNs. But, I have a few sets of 8" circulars that I'm itching to try out!

I'm a Magic Looper, all the way. I haven't looked back since my first pair of socks on one circ.

I actually prefer two methods, 2 circular needles, and DPN's. I switch between the two depending on my mood, and the project.

Awesome giveaway! Thank you!

I would take DPNs with me. Way more pointy ends, plus really small diameters seem easier that way.

Weapon of choice - DPNs. LOVE the yarn and the hat is downright adorable, one I would be thrilled to wear myself - and I've never been much of a hat person (even though I look good in them).

Wow what amazing treats! Your finished beret is beautiful and what a lovely model. :)

I have to differ on my response to the question. My preferred method is two circulars for knitting in the round. DPNS always end up sticking me or poking through my knitting bag and none of my circs are long enough to do magic loop.

Keya said...

I can't stand DPNs, but give me a circular and watch out! I do everything I can, two-at-a-time, on circular needles (hats, gloves, socks ...)! I LOVE circulars. I used to hate the idea of using them, but then I started making socks with them, and now it's the straight needles that seem awkward and the DPNs are just clumsy in my hands. Circular needles are my "weapon" of choice! And I LOVE that gorgeous blue yarn!

As an old D&D player, I'd have switch it up a liitle and choose Magic +3 DPNs of Doom.
