Onto the good stuff... I'm absolutely in love with this week's giveaway! Not only do we have a super talented, smart, funny, lovely, darling guest, Liz Abinante, who is famous on Ravelry for her Traveling Woman shawl, but we also have a fantastic and equally talented indie dyer as our yarn sponsor this week, The Plucky Knitter. Sarah who is the lady behind The Plucky Knitter hand dyes stunning skeins of yarn and her yarn literally sells out in minutes when she posts her dyed treasures up in her Etsy shop. If you have not heard about these gals, what yarn skein have you been living under?!

I had the opportunity to chat with Liz about her new Traveling Woman Collection and do a l'il interview with her on Skype recently. Check it out!

Thank you so much for visiting us, Liz! It was a treat to have you here on YOTH!

This past October I had a chance to knit the original Traveling Woman shawl pattern (which is still remaining a free pattern, by the way). It is the shawl that I decided to knit for my mom's 50th birthday present, and I made it special by adding Swarovski crystal beads to the pattern while knitting it. My mom truly loves her shawl and Jasmine modeled it in the snow for me to show off this week!

If you would like to know more about my bead placement and see my pattern notes, see my Ravelry project here.

Liz and The Plucky Knitter have put together a ridiculously good giveaway this week for you:

TWO followers have the opportunity to win a PDF copy of the new Traveling Woman Collection e-book and one of the below Plucky Knitter Primo fingering weight yarn skeins (light blue-gray = An Early Light & pink-purple = Wee Bit Sassy).

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 1/9/11. Liz wants to know: If you could live in a knitted house made of any yarn (time and cost are not a factor), what yarn would it be and why?

Liz's answer, "I would live in a house made of Berroco Lumina in Space Odyssey for no reason other than I want to live in a shiny silver house. I've never actually knit with this yarn, and I'm sure it's impractical and feels odd, but it's so shiny! I would love to live in a space house. I would have bobbles for door knobs and ornate lace windows. It would be the most gaudy house on the block and the envy of knitters everywhere. Obviously."

I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

My house would be alpaca or merino, and some it could be felted to be more solid, and some lacy and soft! Great question!

Mmm, a knitted house sounds very cosy. I'd like mine to be in cream and navy chunky bamboo with green pom-pom shrubs in the garden. The colors are classic enough to let me decorate vibrantly inside while the bamboo can lend its hypoallergenic and antimicrobial qualities while the chunky weight is excellent insulation. -- FreckledPast [Ravelry]

What a tough, wonderful question!! At first, I thought Malabrigo -- so soft. But my latest sweater was knit with DIC. It's soft AND wearing well.

I want my house to be in Hedgehog Fibres silk-merino in Spell so it is warm, colorful and soft. My husband may not like having a purple house so half the house can be white or blue for him. Someone else needs to knit it for me because that is a lot of stitches.

I'd want to live in a house of Lady Godiva! the wool silk combination is just too good to be true, it's soft and shiny and comes in beautiful colors!

This is almost impossible to answer because my love with a yarn is constantly evolving with each project I knit. I think I may want a house made out of alpaca since it's warm and soft and some people who are allergic to wool wouldn't mind it so much. No, on second thought, let's make it Qiviut -- Yum!
Hope I win. I love Traveling Woman and have drooled over Plucky Knitter tarn for a while now.

A sturdy, genuine and beautiful chunky weight such as Rowan British Breeds:

I love the earthiness, smell, durability and beauty of these types of yarn. Not to mention the water repellent and warming properties they offer. Also, the chunky weight would make the project (house knitting!!) go faster! :)

This is an AWESOME GIVEAWAY!! WOOHOO!! AND This has been my favorite question.

If I could live in a knitted house made of any yarn, I would choose Malabrigo Rios in the entire variety of colorways because it's the softest yarn I've ever had the priveldge of working with, so I'd want to be able to rub the Rios walls, ceiling, and floors around the house and prrrr like a kitty! And because colors make me smile!!

Oh, what a terrific giveaway! I would choose to make my house out of peace fleece Baghdad Blue worsted. I love the color, and it raises money for a really great cause.
Thanks so much for this contest!

I would live in a house made of Brown Sheep Bulky in my bedroom to keep in warm and cozy. The living room would be of Noro Silk. The bathroom and kitchen would be of 100% all natural cotton.

My yarn house would be made out of Malabrigo Silky Merino in the pollen colorway. Except that I would spend most of my time rubbing my face on my wall!

I would love to live in a house made of Blue Sky Bulky Alpaca. It would be the softest most cuddly thing in the entire world. I would not even need a blanket, I could just snuggle on the floor and be in complete bliss.

I am thinking a house of Spud and Chloe and a bathtub filled with DB cashmerino baby.

I would of course have to move to somewhere much warmer year-round, but BAMBOO. For some reason I just can't stop petting it. I would love to have many, many colors and stripe it. The thought of it just makes me...happy!

Thank you for such a nice giveaway!

If I should live in a knitted house it would have been knitted from etra fine merino og alpaca - the winters here in Norway are cold and logn, and wool is a necessity!

I'm now follocing this blog, and you're on my bloglist.

The house would be Red Heart Supersaver, designed to withstand a nuclear holocaust, and the furniture would be Misty Alpaca chunky, a most glorious, soft comfy yarn.

I see my anonymous red heart comment didn't leave any way for you to know who I am.

As a child, I liked to make tents out of any materials I could find and still, in my mind, I am a modern Bedouin. THEREFORE, I would be extremely practical and live in a tent of durable Churro Wool spun by the Navajo People but I would decorate my Bedouin/Navajo/Chic tent with long strings of prayer-flag sized swatches made of sock yarn. This yarn would certainly include Plucky Knitter Primo and String Theory Caper Sock, among many, many others. And I would live happily ever after looking at the sky and knitting these prayer-flag-like swatches.

I would have a hard time picking between Peaches n'creme, the soft cotton yarn (for its variety of colour and the way it feels...) & Lamb's Pride Brown Sheep wool & mohair blend. MMMmmm, a felted house.

I would love to live in a house made of yarn. Right now I would pick Knit Picks Swish. I love the name and the yarn is warm and beautiful. My grand kids would love to visit me in my House of Yarn.

My house would be made out of Hazel Knits Entice because it is so soft and comes in gorgeous colors!

helenlam said...

Hmmm, I think I'd have to knit it out of Colourmart Cashmere! Not too expensive, relatively speaking and so many colors!

Eva said...

Laugh.. Oh.. I've picked up some gorgeous 30/70 cashmere/wool from colourmart, don't know the maker. It is amazingly gorgeously soft and warm. I'd live in a house made of it, in the colors I have (cream and deep blood red) in someplace where the temps get cooler. Mmmmmm a soft squishy warm house.

It would have to be a house knitted out of the various Habu yarns. I like their stainless steel yarn because of the architectural qualities it gives the fabric knitted from it.

I'm not sure the exact yarn I would choose... depends on where I lived - if it was cold, I'd want it to be something soft like Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino so I could snuggle against it. If it was hot - I'd have something lacey and airy - maybe some malabrigo lace. Color not too important, although I am always fond of light colors for homes - makes em feel bigger....

Ugh! I'm sad I missed this one by a day! I guess that's what happens since I just discovered you today! I'm excited to keep reading your blogs! I knit sock monkeys mainly but I am also expanding to other items and so I am always looking for inspiration and new fantastic yarns!

I would have a house made out of wollmeise yarn as I love their colours. It would be so unique and wonderfully fun to live in. :-) I would never get bored with the interiors either!

Not that Jeanne said...

Malabrigo Rios - so soft and yummy it would keep me warm during these long Michigan winters. I just love the gorgeous colors and as a bonus - it's washable, so I could easily clean my house :)

Not because she's the sponsor, but she's one of my favorite dyers, I'd say Sarah's (The Plucky Knitter) MCN Worsted - soft and sturdy and has a good market value if I ever need to sell!

I would love to have a house knit out of Alisha Goes Around Marmalade (of Ponies) Fingering. I am currently knitting scarf in a lovely green shade as a test knit for my LYS. I love the color and the way the yarn feels in my fingers while I am knitting.
