Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

I hope everyone is having a nice summer! Here in the Seattle area, we haven't been getting much sunshine and have had plenty of gray skies and rain. That's given me the opportunity to knit quite a bit, but it would be nice if you folks in the heat waves could send us some sun rays. Whenever you get a chance!

Today I want to share a lovely sweater pattern with you - just in case you want to start queuing up your fall and winter knits. This beautiful design has classic styling with a touch of femininity to give it just enough appeal. I'm planning to wear mine with leggings, jeans, trousers, cords, and really just about every pair of pants I own.

Meet the Gramps Cardigan by the ever so talented Kate Oates...

Modeled by: Ari Cash

This pattern was so quick to knit and it's bottom up seamless construction is just my favorite! This cardigan is the perfect compliment to any practical girl's wardrobe, in my opinion. Dress it up or dress it down, either way this thing will make everyone around you ask where you got it. I've worn mine only once so far, but I got so many compliments I lost count! Check out more of Kate's work on her website here.

Along with this week's wonderful sweater pattern giveaway we have one of my favorite tried-and-true yarn companies: Madelinetosh as our sponsor. If you haven't seen or at least heard of Madelinetosh yarns, where have you been?! They carry a large selection of hand dyed yarns. The colors that Madelinetosh produces are truly stunning and I've heard of them referred to as "glazed" colorways. Somehow that word just describes the layering and depths of the hues perfectly. The yarns seem to have an iridescence to them. It's really amazing!

So, to make this the perfect bundle of joy, ONE VERY, VERY, VERY LUCKY WINNER will receive a PDF copy of the Gramps Cardigan and EIGHT SKEINS of Madelinetosh Vintage in one of the most gorgeous reds I've ever witnessed: Tart. What a perfect name for a colorway too!

GA65madtosh

That's enough yarn to knit up to an XL Gramps of your very own! In addition to the grand prize, two runners up will also receive a PDF copy of the Gramps Cardigan.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 7/31/11. What has everyone been knitting in the summer heat or rain, in our case?! I've been on a sweater kick lately in addition to all the shawls I'm knitting. Do you have any fun sweater projects lined up for fall and winter?

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

Love the yarn - my summer knitting has been a cardigan in Tosh Pashmina in Tart. I love the colour and would love to knit with it in the fall.

I have been knitting shawls, working on an afghan, and knitting afghan squares and dishcloths. With the heat index from 100 to 115 most days, I just stay in under the air-conditioner set at 70 degrees. That is the most beautiful red I have ever seen.

It's been pretty hot over in Finland, but that hasn't stopped me knitting socks. Cookie A's are my favourite at the moment. Also lace shawl is in progress.

Wow! What a fabulous prize!

I've been working on a linen stitch scarf and some hats.

Kristen said...

Wow, that is an AMAZING prize!!! I would love to win and knit this!
So far this summer I have been knitting (and ripping) and knitting (and tinking) and knitting a Pamuya shawl. Fingers crossed, I'm almost done!

Jaime P said...

I've knit about 5 shawls already this summer but I'm about to finish a pair of socks. It needs to be a little cooler to start on sweaters again!

Amanda said...

Love that red!! I've been working on small projects for our new home, and planning a new handspun afghan to work on this fall!

Jenifer said...

Beaute of a sweater and yarn - WOW!
I have been knitting a couple of sweaters: baby & toddler, socks, shawl, slippers and dishcloths. Yeah for small projects!

Alice said...

I have been knitting socks (always) and a cotton-blend vest and cotton-blent tee. We haven't had that much real summer here, so I could as easily have been knitting a worsted sweater. In Madelinetosh yarn. In red. Wonder why that idea came into my head.

CarolynEll said...

I love Madelinetosh! And Tart is one of my absolute favorite colorways. Yum.

I've been slaving away at my wedding WIPs, which need to be completed by October. Once the wedding is over I'm definitely casting on for a sweater! Can't wait!

Would love to try the Vintage yarn. The color is fabulous! Hope I win! Ha!

Wow. Madelinetosh yarns are so beautiful and squishy.

I've been making cowls, but I'm currently making a tank. The lace bits mean I'm ripping a lot, though. More ripping than knitting these days.

DomesticGeek said...

Oooh, that red is gorgeous! I've been wanting to try making a sweater - haven't had the nerve to tackle one yet.

I'm currently working on a bath mat for my master bath and a pair of watermelon socks (if my contrast yarn ever arrives).

Gorgeous yarn!

I'm working on a February Lady sweater now that I've finished up two lace scarfs (Aria Delicato). I just received Ann Budd's new sock workshop book, though, and I'm dying to cast on a couple pair.

I love Kate's patterns and all things Madelinetosh. What a perfect pairing!

I've been building up a stash of socks this summer. It's too warm to wear them now but they'll be ready for me this winter. I've been trying to get started on holiday presents too. I'd love to actually get gifts completed on time this year.

Kathy said...

Oh wow! What a splendid pattern and yarn... crossing my toes. :)

This summer I've been working ever-so-slowly on a cabled vest for my son. I've also been preparing some fleece for my first adventure in spinning!

I love MadTosh Tart, I knit up a hat with it but gave the hat away, gorgeous!

Right now I am knitting a couple of shawls, one to be photographed for an upcoming book so I am very excited about that.

Sadly, thanks to the weather, it seems very appropriate to be knitting fingerless mitts after finishing a nice, warm, long-sleeved version of the Rondeur tee from Knitty!

That colour makes me think of the summer berry crumbles my mum used to make, yummy!

Anonymous said...

That is one vibrant tonal red. I want to pet it. Possibly squish it.

I have been working on smaller projects in the summer. Lots of socks. I currently have 3 on the go right now.

Pine Cone socks bye Anne Hanson
Earl Grey Socks by the Yarn Harlot
and a generic plain pair of socks for my hubby.

For me summer is too hot to be knitting anything bulky.

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway :-)

Lael said...

What beautiful yarn - but if I win it, I'll have to wait until this heat wave is over to knit with it! I'm one of the "lucky" ones here in the midwest who is currently sweltering - so I have taken to knitting cotton dishcloths!

Rea said...

That sweater went on my faves list the minute I saw it! And as for the yarn, I liked what Jessica Snell said ... it's like Christmas joy made visible...perfect phrasing!

I've been knitting a Kindle cover for my mom's bd, socks for hubbie, and when I can stand it, a baby afghan for a new member of the family in Ireland. Unfortunately, 100+ degree days have made that project a bit too difficult to deal with. But baby is due next month, so I must persevere.

This "bummer summer" here on the west coast has meant more knitting time, and it's certainly better than a heat wave! I've completed a pair of socks so far, and am part way through a toddler sweater. Maybe I'll finish it while camping this weekend!

I am knitting hats, socks and mittens for back to school and Christmas. It's too hot to knit a sweater this month!

Melissa Kate said...

Ahhh the Tosh! I've always lusted after this yarn *le sigh*.
This summer has been filled with light weight knits for my 2 little girls. My youngest was born on 1/11/11 (how's that for a lucky b-day?) and I forgot how fun it can be to knit and design for such a chubby little thing. I finished a hooded summer cardi for my 5 yr old and one for myself in a dk weight because it's been too hot for knitting a heavier sweater. I relish those chunky knits in the fall!
Here's to hoping that I'll get lucky again with a pattern and fun yarn to knit something for me!
