giveaway #71

The two winners of the Cakewalk Yarn skeins are:

bbmowery & Julia

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

I have for you a giveaway that I would like to enter to win! A very talented indie dyer joins us today, Goddess Knits, who creates beautiful yarns by the name of Decadently Divine. Honestly, how can you not like a yarn called Decadently Divine?! And, let me add that the giveaway yarn that I have in my hot little hands right now is definitely divine and decadent. Renee of Goddess Knits was kind enough to send us two skeins of wonderful sock yarn: a skein of Moonlight Sock that has a touch of sparkle (5% stellina), and a skein of Decadent Sock that's the most gorgeous color called Red Plum.

Let me show you what these gorgeous skeins of sock yarn look like first...

GA71yarn

Since I don't have a pattern sponsor for you this time (sorry), I've decided to share with you several FREE patterns that I think would be a perfect match for these lovely skeins:

Multnomah by Kate Elsa: This shawl has been in my favorites for a long time now. How beautiful would it be knit out of either of the skeins?!

Leaf on the Wind by Purrlescent - For those of you sock knitters out there! The Moonlight Sock with the stellina strands would be a match made in heaven for this pattern.

Spatterdash Wristwarmers by Dagmar Mora: These are just awesome on so many levels! Either of these fantastics skeins of yarn would work for a pair.

Little House Shawl by Joanna Johnson: I realize that this small shawl is pictured on a child, but I think it would work as a shawlette for an adult. Darling!

Cubist Socks by Cookie A: Cookie's just a sock genius! Enough said.

Undine by Christine Ebers: How did I not know about this shawl pattern until now?! Love it!

Little Things by Veera Valimaki: And, a really great hat pattern by Veera that I'm totally going to queue! Maybe I'll add a little bit of length for more of slouch. Hmmmmm...

Hope you enjoy the yarn sponsor and the collection of free patterns for fingering weight that I've compiled. Two followers have the opportunity to win a skein of Decadently Divine sock yarn! Thank you, Renee, for sharing your lovely yarn with us!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 10/23/11. What would you knit up with one of these cute skeins of sock yarn? Would it be socks, a shawl, a hat, or maybe a baby sweater?! Share a pattern that you might use for a skein of fingering weight yarn (free or not).

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

I would make myself some new gloves. I've been wanting a new pair of round-town driving gloves and either of these yarns would be perfect. I design my own patterns and have in mind a glove with some delicate cables on it. If I win, after I release the pattern, I'll offer up a copy for one of your giveaways.

Vanessa said...

A pair of socks, probably a Cookie A pattern, but not sure which one.

katherinelynn_04 said...

Likely a shawl/scarf. A mini Hawthorne or annis, perhaps. It would depend on which skein came to my home!

Typstatting said...

I would make socks probably Tuscany from Toe Up Two at a time!

Liz said...

I would use the Moonlight Sock for Celaeno by Romi Hill and the Decadent Sock for Fetching by Cheryl Niamath

barra said...

Maybe a scarf or socks, not sure. A Queen Anne scarf may be nice

Knitmish on Ravelry said...

Those are some lovely skeins! I think the Moonlight Sock one would make a terrific Ishbel shawl (by Ysolda Teague). Red Plum would make a great Citron or Simmer Dim!

Love the plum! I think it would look smashing in Nadine Foster's Stars N Stripes shawlette - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stars-n-stripes

Angela said...

I've been dying to make My Vampire Boyfriend socks from Knitty and that plum would be perfect!

Rachelle said...

I'd make Veyla mitts by Ysolda Teague from the plum and Connie by Vintage Purls in the green

Unknown said...

I've had my eye on
Little Things by Veera Valimaki, so if these lovely yarns come my way I'll definitely make it at least once for myself and/or a friend.

Sarah V. (Barf Green Is Best) said...

Definitely a shawl! I've had Aestlight in my queue forever... so maybe that!

Zilliah Bailey said...

I want to lace a lacy tank top, there's a few patterns I've had my eye on that only use one skein of fingering.

kitten said...

Probably a hat or some gloves :). I really like Little Things that you suggested.

I love stripey patterns; my latest favorite is Cladonia, so I think I would see how these pretty colors work together.

affiknity said...

I will knit a lovely shawl for myself.

A shawl, scarf, or some more baby things... so hard to decide!

Jen said...

Ooooh pretty!! I would probably cast on for a cute little toddler top - Marguerite by Helen Rose on Ravelry (sorry don't know how to link to the pattern on my phone)

I'm a sucker for those sparkly yarns! Those Leaf on the Wind socks would be perfect for the sparkly green yarn.

Chrissy said...

Wow, those two are beautiful! I would probably whip up a pair of socks...those leaf on the wind ones look devine!
Hugs xxx

Elise said...

I guess I would make some socks or gloves. The colors are beautiful.

Sylvie said...

I love sparkly yarn and would hate to hide them, so I'd probably turn the green skein into a pair of gloves or a scarf for my best friend who started medical school this fall.
The red skein would be for me me me :)

Kayla said...

I'd love to knitt leaves on wind and gloves! Fantastic patterns!

Denise said...

All of those patterns are great but I think I'd knit either q shawl or some socks for myself. I'm nearly finished Christmas knitting and ready to knit for me in the coming year :)

Tara said...

I have a seemingly never-ending number of patterns of socks and shawlettes that I want to knit in my Ravelry queue, so I've no doubt I could easily pluck those for these skeins!

Dclulu said...

Ooh, I love the red plum. I would make a pair of gloves, I think! And the sparkly green for a baby sweater.

Karen said...

I do love the Little Things hat very much, but I think for yarn with a high nylon content like the Decadent Sock you really should knit socks. Whenever I see beautiful hand-dyed yarn with high nylon content I almost weep with joy - hard wearing and gorgeous - what more could a sock knitter ask for? I would try something with cables or a hint of lace like the Hidden Path sock pattern by Sarah Fama.

Sue Lowe said...

What would I make? definitely a shawl. One would make a beautiful spring shawl and the other for fall. I think I would choose a pattern with a leaf motif to go with either the green colour or the fall theme.

Marlitharn said...

Definitely a shawl. Or maybe a hat. But probably a shawl. They're gorgeous!

Zenitude said...

Had a look at your suggestions and Undine would be my choice for my next sock yarn project.

KnittingViolets said...

I would knit a cute kerchief style scarf to wear with a jean jacket this fall.

Jaime P said...

A shawl of course but winter is coming so socks might be nice...

Cindy said...

At first I thought a shawl, but I love the hat pattern!

Mim said...

Socks or wristwarmers, I need both! Such beautiful colors.

LeAnn said...

I would knit up a shawlette or hat, would have to let the yarn speak to me first before deciding on a pattern though.

Beth said...

I would probably try a lace scarf. I've not ventured into lace much at all, but yarns like this that are almost solid would be perfect to show off the lace pattern. I don't know which pattern I'd try, though...something with lots of explanations for beginners! :)

Gianna said...

I would probably make a shawl (I'm in that kind of mood lately). I think I'd want to see the yarn in person before making a decision, though.

kristyh1981 said...

I would probably make a shawl. I'm not sure which. Probably one of the many in my que or faves :D

susanmhj said...

Oh definitely socks! Need some more to wear, so probably a toe up pattern, or Ann Budd, or Cookie A!
Thanks again!

I would use one skein paired with something else to make Ripple by Helen Bingham... http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ripple-16

Megan said...

I have Stephen West's Daybreak shawl all queued and rearing to go for these beautiful yarns. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Little Miss S. said...

Oh, I am so split between a pair of mitts and a Saroyan scarf. Both would do me good, I think.

Margo said...

FIrst choice would be socks but then again a shawl. Beautiful yarn just needs to be enjoyed!

Rachel R. said...

I would have to say a shawl - I've knit a few pairs of socks, but I don't find that I wear them all that much. Shawls, however, I wear almost every day. The trick would be choosing which one from the hundreds in my queue!

susan said...

Ve...I think Laura Chau's knee socks would be a good fit! for this yarn

Rae Lynne said...

Ooh, these colors would make for a really great, girly Spring sweater. I love the contrast of the two against one another.

If not a baby sweater, than maybe a beret of some kind. or fingerless mitts. There are so many possibilities!

sharmylae said...

that green skein is divine! i've been looking for an excuse to make the sockhead hat, and that colour would be the best for me!

Krista said...

Laura said...

That moonlight sock yarn is fabulous! It looks squeezable AND sparkly! Usually, I run quickly away from any sparkle yarn, but that looks absolutely divine. I'd make gloves. They'd look like they already had snow on them!

I have been drooling over Lisa Mutch's designs, so I'd probably lean towards Variance...a little color for the winter ;)

Emily said...

I just finished my first pair of socks for myself, and I'm hooked! So, socks, definitely.

Nicole said...

For something a little different, I'd make this http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/scarf-with-no-name scarf. A narrow scarf that takes on skein of sock yarn with a beautiful lace pattern. It would be gorgeous in either of these yarns!

Love your free patterns, thanks

There are so many gorgeous shawl patterns out there, it always takes me quite some time to choose what to knit next =)

Thank you very much for that wonderful giveaway.

Kind regards,
Maike (FlauschiOhren on Ravelry)

I would definitely make some sort of colorwork something with this beautiful yarn. I still have lots of leftovers from the Westknits KAL this summer and I'd hate to not be able to use the rest of them.

I would definitely make a Cookie A sock pattern. Her Monkey pattern is the only one I have attemped - I need to branch out.

I'd be tempted to knit up an Orchid Thief Shawlette with the Decadent Sock skein, but finding the perfect something for the Moonlight would require some days of fondling I think!

The yarn with sparkle would make amazing mini monsters and hexipuffs! Love it.

Jen said...

I would probably make a shawl -- I made my 1st in January and have made 3 in total this year. I'm in shawl love!

My go-to shawl pattern is Gaenor, which can be used with ANY yarn, as you knit your skein(s) and follow the increases until you have half left, then you start decreasing. I've made 2!

Elaine said...

The sparkle in the yarn just calls for a shawl!

k2ntrish said...

I love making shawls so would make Mulnomah. If I had any leftover yarn I would make handwarmers.

JP said...

I'd do a little scarf/shawl like Hitchhiker or Trillian.

I would make a pair of mittens. Possibly the Let it Snow mittens as I love that pattern!

I think my hands and feet would be in competition over this project. I've never knit any socks before but would love to try something lacy and fun like tribute by Brenda Patipa or whip up a nice little set of hand warmers.

I am in the midst of a pair of Spatterdashes myself - love the unusual construction and out-of-the-box design :) There are a lot of other gorgeous free fingerless mitts patterns on Ravelry that are in my queue too.

Nina said...

Ooooh, that's a tricky question. I think a shawl from the green (that sparkle needs showing off!) and a lovely, soft, snuggly pair of gloves from the plum. I have never made socks in my knitting career and certainly couldn't face putting anything that pretty into my grotty shoes!

Nina

Probably a hat or some fingerless mitts. No specific pattern, as I math out my own ideas.

Elizabeth said...

I will make gloves.

If I won one of these beautiful skeins, no matter which color, I think a new pair of socks is in order. I'm thinking tiny cables for warmth, twisted stitches for pop and therefore more than likely a pair of socks from Cookie A.'s Knit.Sock.Love. I'm totally excited at the thought of winning this! I'm PurlVerde on Rav, see you around!
