sweet fiber + milk infant top = happiness

Let me just tell you that there are grays and there are g-r-a-y-s! I'm a fanatic gray hoarder - from light subtle grays to deep saturated dimensional grays. I love all of them! When Melissa of Sweet Fiber yarns sent me a skein of her Avery Sport in the colorway Smoke, I just about shouted outloud with glee! I knew right away that it was going to become one of the cutest baby knits ever - the Milk Infant Top by Brandy Fortune.

I'd been eyeing this infant top for a long time and when I found out one of my BFF's was going to have a baby girl, it was at the top of my list to knit for her November arrival.

This pattern has a simple elegance and a vintage touch with it's sweet little crochet edging. It comes in 4 sizes (newborn - 9 months), and makes the perfect baby shower gift using only 400 yds of fingering weight yarn plus 20 yds of contrast yarn at its largest size. Who doesn't have a yummy sock skein just laying around waiting to become a heavenly little cardi?! And, if you're anything like me... you also have hundreds of odd end scraps in the 20 yd range to use up for the edging.

The pattern was very easy to follow and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of knitting this infant top. The crochet portion was simple enough for even me, a crochet newbie. So, don't let it scare you away! And, the yarn, well, it was a dream to work with! It's 50% silk and 50% merino fiber content felt like buttah running through my fingers. At 360 yds, I had just enough to knit up the 6 month size. I did end up making some small changes in the crochet edging, I added a button loop, and I choose to do a garter hem on the bottom to combat the rolling of the stockinette (pattern notes here). Check out my beautiful "grellow" knitted and crocheted (!) cardigan:
