It's been somewhat of a whirlwind in our household the last two weeks including and not limited to a bout of the flu. Christmas has come and gone. With today being New Year's Eve, we are headed to our friend's beach house in Camano Island, WA, to celebrate and ring in the New Year with good company. Most of us going have children, so it'll be nice that the tikes can entertain eachother while us adults can enjoy good food and maybe more than a minute or two of adult conversation. It should be fun!

With the New Year looming, I tend to reflect back on the year I've had and how I would like to better the new one coming. It makes me reminisce all the previous years and how much this space here, the blog, has added to my life. I know it may sound corny (see I'm doing it now... a good use of a word from my middle school years), but this blog has really grown my love of knitting more than it may have alone without the blogging. I feel happy to have this l'il ol' blog! One of my first famous knitters/designers to appear on this blog, was Alana Dakos of NeverNotKnitting. I remember being so ecstatic and shouting to my hubby, "Honey, you won't believe who wants to be on the blog! OMG! A-L-A-N-A Dakos is going to do a giveaway!" My hubby stared at me and just smiled, probably just pretending to know who I was talking about, I'm sure!

Alana and I have both come a long way since her first appearance. I've seen her pattern collection grow and mature into one of the most beautiful on Ravelry! Along the way I feel like I've been a really nice part of it, because I've been lucky to test/sample knit a lot of the patterns. It's been fun, and now she's delved into a whole new area... the children's book section with her new release, Annie and the Swiss Cheese Scarf. Can I just say, ADORABLE!

This book is targeted at 4 years of age and older. Alana graciously sent a copy of the book to my 11 year old daughter and she just loves it! So, don't think that this doesn't work for the older crowd as well. The book is really well written, has beautiful illustrations by the very talented Neesha Hudson, and teaches kids how to knit! What could be better?! Here's a couple of pictures of the Deluxe Set that she has sent over for one of you to win:

annieblog1

Is it weird to also tell you that I love the way the pages of this book feel?! They have this beautiful semi-matte glazing to them and it feels like satin running through your fingers while you are reading.

annieblog2

I also love that the story isn't only a few words on each page. The storyline is written so you can sit with your child and read the story to them out loud.

annieblog3

The Deluxe Set includes: stickers, a paperdoll leaflet that you can cut out, the hardcover book of course, a cute little note from Annie herself (who by the way, was created to resemble Alana's actual daughter - too cute!) and it all comes in a beautiful box to store it in. I realize that this book is probably not for all of the knitters that follow this blog, but I highly recommend this as a gift as well! I think it would be lovely gifted to friends who don't necessarily knit, but you can brainwash their children at a young age to be on our team! Only kidding.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 1/13/13. Do you have someone special in your life that would enjoy Annie?

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

Oh my gosh, I would LOVE this for my 7yo daughter! She is always wanting me to teach her new things (aka how to knit), but she gets easily frustrated when it doesn't click for her right away. I think this book might help us both overcome that obstacle!! :)

I just taught my six-year-old nephew to finger knit over Christmas. I was worried he would get frustrated with it and want to stop, but he took to it so quickly! He had the whole rest of our family finger knitting by the end of the night. I know he'd love this book!

And Alana's designs are so fabulous!

My daughter, 6yrs & niece 6,5yrs really want to learn to knit....I have realised I really need help to teach them.

My daughter is easily frustrated when learning and I really need her to realise that learning a skill takes time and patience and that we can't master a skill the 1st time we try. (well most of us anyway)

Thanks for this giveaway.
