to texas and back

Last week my husband's father had a stroke and we flew down to Texas to be with him and the family. We stayed for five days in my hubby's hometown of Midland, Texas. If you've ever seen Friday Night Lights, it's a pretty good depiction of what a small town in west Texas is like. I'm happy to say that my father-in-law is doing much better now and is on the mend. Although, it gave us a big scare!

I have to tell you a little story about this project below… I booked our last minute flight to Texas on Friday afternoon and we were set to fly out early the next morning. As soon as the tickets were booked, I sort of went into panic mode. I had less than 16 hours to: prepare my home, do the stacks of laundry that I was of course planning to do that weekend, get my daughter ready for a school dance she could NOT miss that evening, pack for the family (hubby was working late), get the doggies taken care of, and the most important thing of course, pick out worry free knitting to take along for the long hours that were going to be spent at the airport and hospital. By midnight or so, I was pretty much done with everything, but the take along knitting choices. I don't know why it was so hard to choose what to bring. It's not like I didn't have a 100 WIP's I could bring along! But, for some reason nothing seemed to be feeling right. By this time, I was pretty exhausted and my brain was really not functioning anymore, so I chose to print out the free hat pattern Hinagiku Hat and I found a beautiful skein of white (let me repeat white!) angora and merino yarn. What?! Who doesn't bring white yarn to travel with through airports, hospitals, and Midland, the most flat, dusty, windy place on earth! I also brought along a free shawl pattern and some darker yarn, but I really NEEDED to knit the hat. From one knitter to another, you know what I'm talking about. All in all, it turned out well:

The pattern was super easy to follow, quick to learn, and the yarn was really a soft and squishy treat to knit with. I do have to admit that the k3tog, yo, k3tog [into the same st] rows were a little killer on the hands, but well worth the cute daisy stitch pattern at the end. See you all tomorrow with a fabulous giveaway!

Hugs & stitches!

I can relate to the knitting panic. I'm glad the hat and your father-in-law are both fairing so well.

Glad to hear your father-in-law is doing better! Such medical events are truly scary and upsetting! Take care! Stephanie (indigodogmt on Ravelry)

I love that hat, and the outfit she is rocking is super cool! I wish I'd had that much style at her age :P

Hope FIL is doining better.
Great hat pattern and a super model showing it off.
I panic every time I leave to go anywhere, that I do not have enough projects or enough yarn. Especially to kirkland, not that Serial Knitters or Michael's is that far away. I guess I worry i will get bored or finish something sooner than I think. I guess it is human nature.
As long as you have a bag for white yarn and you don't bounce it on the floor too often you should be OK.
