Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.
I just got back from a fun weekend away with my ladies, mom and my brother's girlfriend, Jane, the one that models for me. Jane turned 21 in May and my mom and I took her on a fun road trip to eastern Washington to do a bit of shopping, eating and cocktail drinking! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw most of the funny pictures I snapped. You can tell that we had a good old time! I also had a chance to meet up with a good knitting friend of mine who is currently living close to where we stayed in Spokane. I had big plans to go check out a couple LYS's with her, but you know how that goes... the intentions were there though! Outside of no knitting or yarn shopping being accomplished, we had a blast and I'm sure we'll be talking about our adventures for many years to come.
While I was doing some shopping (which I don't do often, I really am not a fan of shopping malls), I did happen to notice all the fun trends happening right now. The mullet style, hi lo thing is really popular. I like it, but not on everything and not necessarily for me, but cute nonetheless. Neon is still majorly in. Hot pinks, blazing yellows, eye searing oranges and electric blues were everywhere. I did happen to notice that lovely adult muted pastels and florals, which are my fav, were also making their presence known. With all of these trends that were hanging everywhere, I did observe that loose flow"y" tops of all sorts, from tunics to shorter tops, open front knits, and dolman style or bat wing sleeves seemed to dominate the departments of all ages. And, I have to say, oh yeah! I love this style - always have.
Today's guest and featured artist, Grace Akhrem, is a genius when it comes to this "trend", and she's been doing it since even before it's resurgence in fashion. Look at these tops: Angelic Shrug, Bougainvillea Lace Shrug, Janna's Tunic, Aviva, and Haru, which I'm seriously obsessed with. I told you so! You can thank me later. Now, Grace doesn't only do tops, so be sure to check out her full pattern collection. Grace visited us back in December with our 12 days of Knitmas giveaway, remember? Now she's back with a recorded fun interview for you and a little peek into how she started designing. Enjoy!

Goodness, I'm a country girl and 51; I don't follow fashion trends!
This is a tricky question. I'm pregnant, so honestly I'll have to say that I'm having a hard time with all the 'marked, slim waist' garments that are in the shops this summer.
(On a more happy note; I love GA's newborn welcome set.)
I've seen some slightly oversized cable sweaters for fall, which is one of my favorite handknit looks. And while it gives me flashbacks to my misspent 1980s, I still think the neons are fun, especially neon pink and electric blue. I just have my doubts that I can get away with neon pink in my 50s.
I'm noticing a considerable trend in knitting fashion toward re-working traditional Aran patterns into snippets of cabling o, especially, cardis as a decorative finish or an eye-catching back panel. I love the look of intricate cabling, but I also love being able to do it and still get a sweater finished in my lifetime!
hi
i don't follow trends as such, i like a touch of a neon yellow or something like that on a grey jersey....but I wouldn't go the whole hog!
I really love the drapy casual look, simple designs in luxury yarn!like Aviva, Janna's Tunic & Haru!
I love jeggings with riding boots and a flow-y top.
i love tunic tops...
I am liking the long infinity cowls that can be worn several different ways.
The neons are taking me back, but like some of the other comments, I don't think I can wear them now! Hot pink jelly shoes are sure cute on my baby girl tho!
I'm not and never have been a fashionista. One of the great things about knitting is that you can alter a pattern to your liking and create your OWN fashion! :)
I love this year's Pantone color, and I'm looking forward to finding more clothes and accessories in it.
ballet flat (still) with anything navy and green and white to pair with it!
I'm another who doesn't follow trends much - I am very entertained by all the neon - that certainly takes me back and I'm getting a kick out of seeing my own daughter wearing this era's version of things I wore "back in the day" !!
I love chevron patterns right now. I see them everywhere, though I haven't had the time or the money to really participate in this trend. I'm more of a classic pieces with trendy accessories person.
My favorite fashion trend right now is color blocking.
I don't really follow fashion, but I've been on a huge shawl knitting kick lately.
These days... Anything that fits me. LOL. I wish maxi dresses looked good on me. :)
Color!!! I love all the bright colors in stores right now!
I love the mismatched socks. As an avid sock knitter, I can make monster socks with scraps and fit right in.
I don't really follow fashion trends, but a knitting trend I like is small shawls made of sock yarn. They're fun to knit. Hopefully I'll end up wearing them.
I'm a dude. I don't know much about fashion at all -- I always defer to my wife. But I do find myself drawn to things that are "classy" and "timeless." From what I can tell, that never goes out of style. And the designs spotlighted here seem to fit that description just fine. The yarn pictured is BEAUTIFUL!

I'm not a big fashion follower but I am into shawls at the moment. BUT then who isn't?

I love the hint of bright colors - but not to keen when it's whole hog. ;)
There are trends in fashion?! Crap. I've been doing it wrong my entire life. I'm such a jeans & t-shirt type of person that I'm not generally aware of anything else (though I do wear handknit socks so....).
I am not much in the fashion trend, I just buy what I like to wear.
I really love the jersey infinity cowls that are popping up everywhere, the chevron ones are quite interesting and I love the fun patterned ones too!
I never notice trends, have always worn what i like and feel comfortable in. but I love fun patterns and always do several KAL/CAL over on Ravelry each month
Fracksmom
I live in a somewhat rural area so no real trends are showing up. I tend to go anti-trend so I don't have to replace my wardrobe! I have seen (as others have mentioned) more aran styles but in lighter fabrics which I think is neat.
Cowls and scarves are the rage here which works for me! I have super short hair and wear scarves all year round.
I love that it seems like a thing goes these days. Mixing textures And prints and colors of all kind. And I love COLOR! This yarn is beautiful! Sounds like you ladies had a grand time too. Enjoyed seeing the pics!
Hugs... Kriste (Kristebee on ravelry)
To be honest, I don't really like the hi-lo thing! I really love the skinny jeans that were in this fall and winter though ... are they still in?? I'm pregnant now so I can't really take advantage of it hehe, but I do have one pair of maternity skinny jeans from H&M that I love.
One of the longest lasting "trends" in knit/crochet has been the shortage of interesting patterns for us guys. As a result, I learned to design my own sweaters years ago. In that respect, I'd have to say I don't follow trends, I START them. And if I'm the only one following my trend, that's OK by me. Maybe even better.
Pagewood Farms yarns are wonderful, and that is another great colorway from them. Thanks for all the giveways, interviews and "trendspotting".
I like a lot of the flowing "boho" style clothes...but, I don't always feel I can pull them off, since I am pretty curvy.
I don't follow fashion trends, but I've begun wearing my lace shawls and feel very stylish. :-)
Trendy is only good if you like the design, if not you are just one of the sheep! haha I would say that I like am a bird with it's own type of feather. Love the yarn!
Great giveaway! I love the cardigans that cascade at the front.
I think the current peplum trend can look cute (although it's already showing up in so many places that it often looks overdone, like a detail tacked onto a top for the sake of making it "on trend").
It's caught my eye but I haven't bought anything for myself yet.
That yarn is BEAUTIFUL. I really hope I win!!
I like the combo of stripes and lace trim. Also I like assymmetrical looks.
I like the cropped cardis that I've seen - they look good on my daughter and they're relatively quick knits!
I'm not big into following trends. So... no idea!
Color blocking. Thanks!
I'm not much of a shopper either and I don't read the fashion magazines, so I'll have to steal a trend from your post. If pastel florals are in, that would be a pick of mine. Or the loose, flowing styles - much easier to hide my middle aged figure under those than some of the skin tight things I've seen younger people (and some not so young people!) wearing recently.
I like cowls.
I find myself drawn to loose, airy cardigans with lots of drape in the front to wrap up in. It seems like such a comfortable, practical garment. Now if I can only find the time to make one....!
I've seen a lot more use of brighter colors, and that I love!
Honestly, I have no idea what's currently in fashion! Except for neon colors, and I gotta love the outrageousness.
Fashion trend do they have those at Goodwill? :)
The yarn is so lovely.
I'm in my fifty's and do what I like.
My favorite fashion trend has to be flats! I'm noticing more and more women wearing them, instead of heels all the time.
I love how hippie-ish styles have been back in fashion the past few years. Now I'm stylish and I don't even have to try!
I'm not a fashion trend follower in the least, but I will admit I like the ruffled scarves knitters are knitting.
Hishandmaid on Ravelry
Do jeans and tshirts count as a fashion trend?
Hmm.. I like that lace is getting to be a big trend. Or has lace always been big? :)
I'm not much of a fashionista either! I like loose and flowing clothes. On the knitting front I'm really into lace right now!
I like the wedge- Shoes, shoes SHOES!!
I have absolutely no idea what is trending at the moment; hopefully it includes A-line skirts?
Well, I love classic with a twist. Even hippy style sometimes is nice to wear. Some ethnic and some bling. Maybe I just like to mix styles, after all.
asteride on Ravelry
Comfort is my fashion trend!

I 'm not much on trends but I love to get a big ole bag of cast offs and pick and choose. It makes this 43 year old only a season or two behind. Still, there are classics to be knit; cardigans with a touch of lovely! Thanks for the interview, it keeps me trendy in the knitting world anyway!
I confess that I don't stay very aware of trends. Living in Montana where I do = limited shopping. I'm outdoorsy so I tend to love Patagonia, Athleta, and wearable clothes. I do love skinny jeans or cropped pants with a flowy top.... Thanks for the chance to win such a neat giveaway! Stephanie (indigodogmt on Rav)
I love the boom of crescent shawls lately. Triangle shawls aren't really my style, even though I am always falling in love with them! But the long crescent shawls; while equally elegant, are closer in style to a scarf, which is very wearable and still functional in my wardrobe. LOVE!! :)
ariesandewe on Ravelry
I suppose my favorite fashion trend right now is the reappearance of seventies styles.
I'm really into shawlettes. Thanks for the chance to win some beautiful yarn.

I love my Jeans, they never go out of fashion, as for knitting I am big on the sock trend.

Thanks for the giveaway!
I am in love with how popular cowls have become!
Tunics yes, batwing sleeves not so much, thanks! Learning color knitting now, so anything with Fair Isle patterns is super. But I LOVE Olga's Vest! I'd like to make about 4 of that pattern in different colors, maybe several different textures to.
I love the trend of pairing neons with neutrals. Glad it's sticking around for a few seasons.
maxis!
I love the bright neon colors. Probably because I was around 10-12 years or so the first time those colors were popular and I still love them from back then.
I love Grace's designs and have knit several. I have Olga's vest OTN now, really really like the pattern and the look.
As a forever knitter (my mom says I started at 4 and I am ...), I find patterns I like and gladly knit more than once!
BTW: I am across the river from Spokane right now, will have to cross the state line and check out the yarn shops you missed!
Trapezoid style tops and summer dresses.
I don't know about following trends, I just know what I like, and that's comfy jeans and a big, oversize sweater in the winter and capris and a nice top in the summer.
I can tell you I don't like the fashion of clothes sewn so the look like they're inside out.
I love all the grey that's in right now!!! Especially when paired with a bright pop of color.
I'm a big fan of the skirts that are shorter in the front and longer in the back! They look so cool!
I don't know what the trends are these days, but I like short sleeve sweaters that can be worn over t-shirts with a pair of jeans.
I love that bootcut jeans are making a comeback, I Love my skinny jeans and all but I missed me some bootcut! And the flowy tanks that are all over the place are making me really happy too!
I am a big fan of hand-knitted cardigans, especially when they are trailered to fit properly

There seems to be shawls and shawlettes everywhere right now, I love it!
I am yknitt on ravelry
Latest trend in knitting? That's kind of hard to say. I tend to go my own way with most things and knitting is no exception. My new favorite designer is Judy Marples and her beautiful and unusual shawls. Does that count?
Purlescence on Ravelry
Toms shoes! Super comfy, and for a good cause. I love the vest, thanks for the chance!
I like classic designs but I did buy a few day glow shits to keep tack of the family, when we go on highly populated outings and to festivals.
I tend to be a jeans type of gal ... and at 67 I don't think it matters anymore. I just like to be comfortable.
The vest would fit right in with my lifestyle...
I'm 38, mum&wife&scientist&knitter... I can't stop wearing my boots, don't care the hot weather... I must be quick!
Classic and comfort
I love anything that can go with jeans and that can "class" up the casual work outfit too! I love knitting up accessories!!
The fashion trend I follow is the any one with hand knitted items - they come back into fashion every now and then, so I am fashionable every now and then! ;-)
I love a good shawl to wrap up in!
I love a nice lacy shawl to wrap up in!
I am not much of a fashion sheep... I prefer to make my own style which I call "timeless freak-so-chic". I sew a lot of my own dresses and skirts from quilting fabrics and love mixing prints, so I guess I will say that I am on trend with that all of a sudden at least. :)
Otherwise, most of what is trendy right now would never look good on most women (including me)- boxy and/or cropped tops, dresses cut like sacks, short shorts, OVERALLS?! NOBODY looks attractive in overalls. Leave them in your closet unless you are going to do yardwork!
I tend to notice trends right before the next trend comes in...always a little late to the party.
In the group of knitters I know, it seems that there's a somewhat recent trend of sweater knitting. It seems like the group cycles together of what we all like to knit best. :)
raelynne01 on Rav
I love polka dots & flowey summery tops.
If it is comfortable and practical then its my kind of fashion trend.

I love the cardigans that are trending right now especially the style that do not call for buttons

I do love the bright colors - maybe not neon so much...
I love the fifties type full skirt dresses updated with shorter skirts. A bit like "Mad Men" but with interesting prints.
That Olga's vest pattern is so interesting! What a neat construction. Right now I'd say I love the bright solid pastel nail polish that everyone is doing their toes in. I have to admit to being behind on fashion but I also love belts.
Eenae on Rav
I'm loving the shawl craze.
My favourite fashion trend right now is green!
I'm not very trendy, but I'm hoping that the large scarves that can be wrapped a couple times around to keep warm in the office are "in" and will STAY "in".
i love the clogs

I love, love shawls, as well as shrugs.

I'm finding that knitting-wise I'm really into slouchy hats and berets right now, maybe just because I'm thinking about Christmas knitting! As for fashion in general, I think the trend of wearing a light cardi with a dress and leggings is super cute, although I don't own a single outfit like that myself! :p Not much of a fashionista, I guess.
MamaLemon on Ravelry
I like the come back of bright colors in crochet & some granny squares to make baby blankets & for knitting too.I like the light lace shawl patterns by Grace.
rinebird on Ravelry
I like the boho look and try to pull it off occasionally but right now I'm really wanting to bring out my flat sandals, tanks and shorts....if only the weather would cooperate!
It's winter here so trends are different. I love the lace up wedge platform shoes (do they have a name?). I have a blue suede pair that I don't want to take off! I also love slouchy hats, whether they're trendy or not ;)
Hot colors!

I'm more practical than fashionable, but I sure would put that yarn to good use!

Considering I tried on three pairs of hot pink sandals today (one pair were "jellies") I'd have to say the pop of color that these provide....
Goodness, I'm really enjoying socks and mittens right now. Even with small needles, the projects are quick. I also feel very feminine wearing them!
I love knitting socks and mittens right now. Even with small needles, they are quick knits. I also feel very feminine wearing them!!
I think my favorite fashion trends right now are leather boots and chevrons.
Lately I have seen many asymmetrical knits out there and my eye has been drawn to hen.
KnitAweigh- Ravelry
At the moment I like very small things; amigurumi or little rafia purses for summer. Just trying to be minimal and finish projects....

I actually tend to wear 1950s styles more than modern, except that right now I'm pregnant, so the nipped-waist look isn't really happening!
I love those sweaters that look flowy and open down the front (I've no idea what they're called).
I really like flowy tops but kind of have to get used to it on me ;-) Olga's vest was my favorite pattern among all! Thanks for the great contest! anyonecanknit
Best fashion trend right now is that blue jeans with always be in style.
monkalicious on Rav
My favorite trend right now is the minty green. ;)
I like that there is more shaping in knitted cardigans etc. I love oversized, boxy tops but they do nothing for me.
I also love that yarn. It is my colour!
Love, love this pattern! Reds are power colors and would love to make this vest. Knitting has been my lifesaver since my Mom passed, got sick, lost my job and had to go on disability. I hope I win! Good luck to all!
I love the ikat patterns that are everywhere right now!
I am not big on "Trends"...I have always just tried to dress in what I enjoy the most :)
Usually, I am dressed in "scrubs" because I am a Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery (which means I don't even get to pick the style). My funky, crazy-colored, neon & bright knit socks are my "special" touch to my wardrobe (and thin sweaters to keep the chill off). Thanks for the giveaway!!!
Are cardigans trendy or classic? I don't know but that seems to be one thing I always gravitate to.
I am really gravitating towards the peplum style, when done right of course. I think it gives a nice little boost to making the waist look smaller.
I love the layered look of vests. I want to make this vest because it looks os versatile in the ways to wear it.
I like that crochet is a trend right now.
I love the look of jeans, riding boots, loose tops and shawlettes or infinity scarves.
My standard kid friendly uniform leans toward jeans/shorts w/ a t-shirt...I'm not sure how much fashion is in there ;)
Beautiful yarn!
rav id - txtaurus
I've been enjoying shirts which are longer in the back than the front. Sweaters too.
Ok, it is warm weather at the moment. However, I am a sweater nut! My other big fashion trend is jeans, riding boots and t-shirt. Great giveaway! Thanks for a chance!
Um, wearing flares and lots of polyester and decorating my house with brown macramé?
I think I may be a little out of date ;-)
Everyone compliments the vintage tops I have been knitting, they are timeless so always fit in to current fashion.
Er,not a trend follower here. But there seem to be a lot of scarves around this winter so I am happy about that.
There also seem to be some nice winter colours this season which makes a pleasant change.
I don't really follow fashion trends...I will say I'm a little said, like others, that neons are back. Lol
Hi!
My favourite fashion trend is color. Lately lots of new knitting patterns suitable for bright and happy colors have been published, which makes me happy happy!
/Rebecca
I don't really follow fashion trends but I do like lace ( which still seems to be very fashionable)and have bought a new dress with lace accents that I can add a knitted lace shawl to.
lindarumsey on Ravelry
I'm not really liking the spring/summer colors this year. They are way too loud for me. Also, the waistlines are all too tall for my petite rise. There's a reason I wear bikinis, not briefs.
I do like that peplums haven't yet phased out. So simple, yet so flattering.
I'm not much for following trends. Or maybe it's just that I'm ahead of the curve on things that I wear. Example: I was wearing chartreuse anything and leggings with tunics and dresses way before it became a "thing". But, I do love looking at the photos of "what's next" in fashion and knitting magazines.
i love how versatile these patterns are! so creative. my favorite trend is one that resurfaced a few years ago - the long, drapey scarf that can be worn several ways. thanks for yet another chance to win - i really hope that someday my name will appear at the top as the winner :) kmvdvm on ravelry.

I love just at the hip, flows tops. Not so much neon, unless the coral-y peachy type, especially if I have. Tan, which I know can kill me, but I still like better than pasty wintry skin for me!
I've never been a fashionista, but i adore the handknit wraps and shawls.
It's good to see some bright colours back on the streets again, even if it is NEON!
Don't really follow trends. My favorites have always been flowy and feminine.
Love the yarn but me too... the only "trends" i tend to follow are what fits me in a flattering way. I am very thin, no chest, butt has almost disappeared and it is hard to find rack clothes that fit. A huge reason i love making my own. In color... i love greens so this years hot color is nice. Brings out my green eyes.
I like the asymmetrical tops and skirts as well as the contrast o dainty lace weight (e.g., stainless steel wool yarn) with a heavier yarn placed strategically in the garment.
I'm not a trendy person at all. I like good old comfortable roomy classics.

For me, I am more concerned about the right fit versus trend. I am really picky about proper fit for my clothing, so I tend to buy more expensive timeless pieces that fit well instead of buying moderate priced items each year that fall into the current trend.
However, I do follow the trends for nail polish, so I have been enjoying the bright colors this summer.
I am loving the touches of yellow with gray that I'm seeing all over the place. I'm also enjoying a resurgence of a ton of interesting hats, but that may just be because I live in hipsterland.
It may not be a new trend for most people, but a new trend for me is to accessorize with scarves. Another trend I love right now is the color orange. Since I bought a gorgeous pair of annu shoes in orange, now I must match the rest of my wardrobe!
The lace trend - so feminine and delicate, and a pleasure to knit.
Ooooh, not much of a fashionista, I'm afraid. I tend towards the classics.
I don't follow trend either but I love the super-long scarves, and I hope that trend continues. Whether thin woven cotton for summer or knit or crocheted for winter, they look great.
I like looser garments and mesh too.
I really love neon! It takes me back to first grade!

Classic &, more importantly, comfortable says the aging hippie - I love the vest - thank you for the chance to win!

my go to fashion trend is the "granny square" in totes, vest and sweaters, I like to use the lightweight fibers to make an airy shawl for the cooler shops we visit or restaurants
It's summer in the south , I am doing comfort regardless of the trends!
I am 48 years old and do not really follow trends. I live in converse, jeans and baggy tees or sweaters.
I would say maybe blues are in this year I see a lot of designers using blue yarn. I don't go shopping unless it's Zumbawear :)
I'm so glad that tunics & looser tops are trending again. I'm a mom of 4 & this is about the only kind of top I can wear! :P
How about scrub top and pants? Just kidding! Love my jeans and comfortable tops.

I'm not fashionable in the least..wouldn't even know where to begin! I do really adore the Olga vest and all of her other designs as well though!
I love vests of all kinds and boot cut jeans...does that count as a fashion trend?
I've discovered I like the trend of people wearing cowls and fashion scarfs. It makes it easy to "expand" my wardrobe
I always seem to be at least a step behind in fashion. I'm not even sure what's current. But, I do like the long wide scarf accessory in bold colors. Lately, I've been drifting towards the oranges.
The Olga's Vest pattern is a beauty, but I need that body to go with it. Been knitting shawls, cowls and hats, just because there is always an exciting new pattern. Really need to get back to knitting sweaters. I do like less constructed, slightly avant garde patterns. I've been collecting my favorites on Pinterest.
I love the trend toward using exquisite high-quality yarn in beautiful colors. They hooked me, but I didn't know how best to use them.
I took a course in Salem, Oregon in May from Grace who catapulted us into the frontier of style. Wheee! Now I know the extraordinary is do-able, especially with thoughtfully written patterns, charts and and ways to connect with other knitters.
Wendy
I've been doing a bit of shopping myself and I am liking the flowy drapey neckline on some of the plus sized tops. They seem a bit more forgiving than a deep V and much more flattering to my ample chest.
I'm a SAHM, and don't dress up a lot, but I have a bunch of tees and long-sleeved tees in my wardrobe. So, I am really loving the shawlette/scarf trend that I can just throw on with a casual tee and have a put-together look.
I tried doing this earlier from my phone but don't think it worked. Anyway, rural life and teaching just don't fit for being trendy. I do like that scarves are back in style!
I'm loving the return of certain shades of green I haven't seen in a long time.
