I am excited to announce that this week I am featuring a brand new addition to my blog, it's the premier of the first ever Yarn On The House podcast!! I've decided to give podcasting a try and what better time to start than now when I want to tell you all about my recent goodies that I purchased during my trip to all 25 stores on the LYS Tour. This week it's all about me and a fabulous giveaway! Take a listen...
If you cannot see the player click here.
Starting in top left-hand corner (moving from left to right on each row), here are Ravelry links to all the yarns:
Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk, Manos del Uruguay's Rittenhouse Merino 5-ply, red buttons that I do not have a link for, Cascade Yarn's Greenland, Be Sweet's Bambino Taffy, Cherry Tree Hill's Supersock Solids, Art Yarn's Mohair Splash, Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic, Cascade Yarn's Fixation Solids, Trendsetter Yarn's Cha Cha, Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino, Clover triangle stitch markers which I'm not going to link to, Cascade Yarn's Heritage Solid, Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed, Frida buttons (no link), FLY Design's Pashmara (I could not find the correct link for this yarn on Ravelry), Habu Textile's Silk Stainless Steel, Malabrigo's Lace
Links and such from the podcast:
- The NEW rules!
- LYS Tour
- Linsay
- Clapotis pattern
- Another knitter's Clapotis made out of Blue Heron Rayon Metallic.
- Fresh Picked Baby Hat
- Frida Kahlo
- Kushu Kushu Scarf
- The Malabrigo Lace one skein project.
I wanted to mention that in the podcast when I discussed the Art Yarn's Mohair Splash I said that the yarn had merino in it. I lied! I meant to say mohair, but I'm sure you probably knew that. Also, I attempted to find some of the one skein projects on Ravelry to link to, but was only able to find the last one mentioned above (Malabrigo Lace project). Hope you all enjoyed my goofy self talking about all the great yarn I acquired during the LYS Tour!
One lucky follower has the chance to choose the yarn or buttons out of a "box" from the picture above. I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:
1. Read over the NEW rules.
2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 6/6/10, telling us which "box" of yarn or buttons in the picture above you would like to win and why.
I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.
Sincerely,
Ve

i love raven frog's yarn, but i live in alaska so i can get her stuff (in many beautiful colors) at my LYS! i've been looking for some metallic yarn to do a few fashionable baby (i'm due in october)sweaters so would love the blue heron's rayon metallic!! i love the summery colors!
I would love to try this yarn:
Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic. It looks so pretty and I've never knitted using metallic yarn before.
The blue heron's metallic looks beautiful. I love the colors. Thank you for the chance to win.
I would love to have the malabrigo's lace yarn. I am dying to get my hands on the yarn which everybody is raving about.
i like the cascade heritage solid yarn, i love sock yarn and cascade brand.
I love love love Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed. It was so fun to hear you talk about me in the podcast! I would love to go to Bainbridge with you sometime. We used to live in Poulsbo and I love it over there!
I would love the Blue Heron Rayon Metallic, because I just LOVE anything that sparkles!
Jess
I love the vibrant blue of the FLY Design's Pashmara. It's so vivid!
I really want the Raven Frog yarn. It's beautiful! It's make a lovely one-row scarf.
Congrats on the podcast - I can't wait to have a listen!
My favorite is: Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino. The color just speaks to me.
I can't wait to listen to your podcast!
The louisa harding looks so pretty! I love that color. I loved hearing your voice.
I would totally go for the Habu Textiles Stainless Steel and make the Kusha Kusha scarf. I lurk on the Habu Ravelry group and have been wanting to try one of their yarns for a long time. The Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed also looks quite lovely and drew my eye as it's a color I don't usually go for and winning it would be an opportunity to branch out. Perhaps for a cowl or fingerless mitts.
I would LOVE the Malabrigo Lace in the gorgeous orangey colorway! I want this yarn to grow up to become a Citron for me!!
I would LOVE the Fly Designs Pashmina. That blue is fabulous! I am excited to try the podcast.
I think I'd choose that Cascade Heritage hiding in the middle there that's absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to listen to the podcast!
Great podcast and box choices.
My first pick would be the Habu stainless steel yarn; I want to make a Kusha Kusha scarf for sure one day, but have yet to get the yarn and pattern. I love the colors too. Yellow green is my favorite!
i think i woudl choose the habu stainless, i have been dying to try to knit something with their yarns. they intrigue me!
teri p
You mean I can only pick one from that awesome box?!?! I can't decide between the Cha-Cha and the FLYs Pashmara. The Cha-Cha because I saw a tutorial using it to make a scarf and have wanted some since then. the Pashmara because that color is to dye for ;)
Wow! what a choice! I would like the Art Yarn's mohair splash. It's look so pretty.
I really like the Louisa Harding. I would be interested in seeing which stores you got your yarn and pattern as a local person who attempted a few shops. Great new format!
I'd have to pick the raven frog merino box! I'm a sucker for pretty colors... and I want to experiment with some colorchanging yarns for pooling scarves!
I love that Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic, FLY designs Pashmara, or Misti Alpacas Tonos Pima Silk. They're all so lovely!
And then there's buttons....but I spose I have enough buttons at the moment....
I LOVE the Grace Hand-dyed - it's absolutely gorgeous!
I really love the Misti Alpaca Tonos Pima Silk -- that's the most beautiful blue color! I'm sure anything I make with that will be gorgeous!
I would choose the misti alpacas silk- as I've never knitted with silk and would love to give it a try. I also find the Habu Textiles stainless steel silk intriguing - but not sure my skills are up to knitting with something like this. As usual all of the choices are pretty wonderful and would be truly happy with any of them! Thanks.
I am in love with Misti Alpaca and would love to try the pima silk, the color is amazing!
I think the Raven Frog, because it's not something I can get locally.
I just love the red of the Louisa Harding Grace hand dyed yarn. If I was lucky enough to win this I would use this yarn to knit a scarf for the Red Scarf Project on Ravelry.
Congrats on the new medium, and I love rule #2 of the house rules! The Manos merino is intriguing -- I'd love to see how a softer Manos yarn knits up!
I would adore having the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed and this time, make something for myself.
Susan
It's a difficult choice, because I would love to have most of the yarns in that picture, but I would go for the Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino. I'd love to try a new yarn, and it's so pretty!
The Cherry Tree Hill's Supersock reminds me of the dream I had where all the clothes in my closet were yellow! And I love to knit socks.
It sounds like it would have been so fun to do the tour! All your goodies look so nice, but the one that really stands out to me is the Louisa Harding's Grace hand-dyed. That color is just so striking.
Tough decision! But I think I'd go with the malabrigo lace. Orange is my color :)
Gosh I hate choosing just one from that amazing collection. But if I have to then I would like the Manos Merino yarn.
Wow - hard choice! I think I'm going to say Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed, though, because it looks so luscious and I've never tried that yarn before.
Oh Frida Kahlo buttons!!? I have been obsessed with her painting and her life since I saw some of her work at the Guggenheim in college. No matter how bad she felt (she had debilitating back problems from a trolley car accident in her 20's)she kept creating as a therapy. Her paintings are like seeing a woman's inner feeling on canvas!
I'd take those buttons and make them the clasps for a colorful red rose colored shawl evocative of her paintings!
Oh....the Habu please. I've been wanting to try some of their yarn.
I really like the raven frog yarn. So pretty! I'd definately make something special for me. Thank you for continuing this wonderful blog.
I would have to say the Grace, though I would love to work with the Habu sometime as well. This is a hard choice! They are both gorgeous.
Oh wow! I love so many of the things you've included in the box, but I'd love to try the Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk. The color is so rich and amazing! I've been thinking of making a shawl/wrap thingy out of that color.
I would love to try Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk. I finished a shawlette in Pima Cotton and think it would be even more fabulous in a Pima and Silk combo. Plus, blue is my favorite color!
That hand-dyed Grace is BEAUTIFUL! What a perfect kick of color for a winter scarf/shawl!
I love the color of the FLY Design's Pashmara. Thanks for this opportunity and welcome to the podcasting party! I've been podcasting since January with my colleague Driftglass and it's a ball.
I am loving that color of Manos del Uruguay! Reminds me of slime. But really, any of those yarn boxes would delight me to no end.
i love the colors in the misti alpaca, and the louisa hardings hand dyed. i also love those little red buttons you dont have a link for.i love all of the items really, all the yarn look like it would be a lot of fun to knit with.
I really like your new house rules, and congrats on your new podcast ability :D
Good luck to everyone, and i hope you all have a great week!
Great job on your first podcast! I would love to win the Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic!
Sheri from Ky
Momasly@yahoo.com
I really like the Misti Alpaca in the upper left corner, and the purple-blue FLY yarn on the bottom row. Lovely!
I'm loving the Artyarns Mohair Splash!!! I have a LBD that has ben crying out for a cute pink scarf to go with it!!
BTW...I LOVE the new rules!!! Hooray for shipping to Canada!!!
Yippeee for new rules!! I've always been envious of Americans who could enter these giveaways!
I love the FLY Design's Pashmara! I believe that's the amazing blue on the bottom row? Stunning and satisfying colour to me! I always go for the blues. This one is perfect!
How sweet of you to offer yarn you purchased for yourself :)
I would LOVE to try Louisa Harding Grace Hand-dyed. I'm a HUGE fan of pink, and I absolutely love that bright hot pink color.
Thanks for this wonderful giveaway :)
~Eliana~
I would definitely pick the Cascade Heritage solid! The color is beautiful, and I just became addicted to knitting with finer-gauge yarns, and so need to balance out my mostly worsted weight stash with some new yumminess for future projects! However, it is still a tough choice--they're all so beautiful! Looks like you had a good shopping trip. :)
I love Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed yarn. The color is so vibrant. I have been dark color funk and think this would be just the thing to bring me back to the world of color!
Woooow, this is such a hard choice!
I'm a big Be Sweet fan, and the colours in that ball of Bambino Taffy look right up my alley, so either that OR the amazing pink Louisa Harding Hand Dyed -- the pink, because I recently attended a dye workshop and meant to dye some pink yarn, but ended up with orange by mistake! Oops. Thanks for hosting, as always! (SarahVV on rav)
FLY Design's Pashmara is a gorgeous color. I love it!!!
Congratulations on your first podcast! I'm drooling over the FLY Designs Pashmara.
There are so many that are so nice, but I think I'd really like to try out (in order) would be:
#1. the Habu Textiles yarn to make Sea Tangles: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sea-tangles
#2. the Malabrigo Lace - becacuse their regular yarn is so so yummy - I'm sure I'd love it
#3. Misti Alpaca - because of the beautiful blue color- it's georgous!
I'd love to win the Mal lace! I really enjoy knitting lace(so long as I don't drop anything:))and I love the feel of Mal, and the great colors. Thanks for hosting these awesome giveaways!
I love the Louisa Harding Grace Hand-dyed...great color!
So many pretty options! I would say either the Pashmara, because that color is gorgeous, or the Blue Heron Metallic, because I've never knit with sparkly yarn before!
I have never seen that pashmara before. It is the most gorgeous shade of blue!
All of those yarns are beautiful. Such a gorgeous picture! I think my top two are the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed and FLY Design's Pashmara, because the colors are so intense and pretty!
Congrats on your first podcast. I really enjoyed it.
I like the yellow Cherry Tree Hill yarn. :-)
I love that green yarn up in the color. I think I am obsessed with those fall colors still even though it is summer soon.
I have looked through the projects for the Habu Stainless Steel on ravelry a few times and I would love to give this yarn a try!
Laugh.. So was listen to your podcast w/ my boyfriend in the room, he gave me the oddest look and walked over to turn up my speakers. Silk? Stainless steel?! He was so very confused. I was so very intrigued. LOVED the podcast.
I love the pink pink pink one!! I think it might need to be a shawlette or cowl... hmmm.
I'm listening to and enjoying the podcast right now!
I can't decide which I would love to win more, the malabrigo lace or the Habu. mal lace is one of my favorites, and I have been planning another one-skein shawlette. and that autumny orange is one of my favorite colors. but I love the Habu too, and I think they'd make an awesome shawlette.
thanks for this giveaway!
As much as I'm tempted to say the malabrigo (I have a problem not buying more) I'd really love to try the Louisa Harding merino silk. The Raven Frog would also be lovely. What a great selection of yarn treats!
Pashmara or the Malabrigo's lace- I love both colors so much and I am totally into scarves and shawls lately!
I just fell in love with that Malabrigo lace.... the colour is awesome!!! I never knittind it before, but it looks like a knitters dream come true...
Blue Heron Rayon Metallic! Its the perfect example of a yarn I goo over but somehow never end up buying. Love the sparkles! The Frida buttons are awesome as well... Your collection makes me so sad that I couldn't go to all the spots on the tour!
Bigheidi on ravelry
Love the Malabrigo lace, especially the colorway. I actually have been pondering about buying some of this in an orange colorway myself....hmmmm... maybe if i don't win, I'll just have to go by some! :)
I'm torn between the Louisa Harding Grace and Mal Lace....I'll go with the Louisa Harding!
Though there are many gorgeous yarns pictured, I would love to win the Louisa Harding Grace that you hand-dyed. What a vibrant, fun color you achieved!!!
Thank you for the opportunity!
I am leaning towards Habu stainless steel yarn.. someday, I will get ti knit the kusha kusha scarf.. ;-)
OH what a hard decision!! But Malabrigio would be my choice!
I think the Habu textiles yarn kit looks really interesting. I would love to try making up the kushu scarf. Thanks for the podcast, I really enjoyed listening!
My eye was immediately drawn to the raven frog yarn although everything looks like fun!
Kim in IA
What a lovely abundance of riches. I'm torn between the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed, Frida buttons and the FLY Design's Pashmara.
Such a hard decision and I could be happy, happy with several of them but I think my favorite of all is the Raven frog yarn. I love the colors and color rules! Thanks so much and best wishes for great success on you podcast.
I would love the Malabrigo Lace! I LOVE Malabrigo but don't have any in laceweight and that is a beautiful color!
Gosh, so many beautiful choices. I think I would go for the Blue Heron or Louisa Harding. I can see a nice shawl with either one.
I would love to try the Malabrigo Lace. I'm pretty new to lace but absolutely obsessed already. I hear tons of good stuff about the Malabrigo line in general, and would be happy to try and of it. :)
YAY!! INternational. Raven Frog or Malabrigo are TDF - I would love to try either. I am in the Canadian Maratimes, have never tried but have heard wonderful things about these yarns.
I think the artyarns because I have never knit with it but have drooled over it EVERY time I see it.
I would love to have either the Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solid because I've been looking for yellow sock yarn for a long time now and I've always been intrigued by Cherry Tree Hill, or the Malabrigo Lace. I already love Malabrigo sock and worsted. The lace would be my first lace-weight and what better than Malabrigo as your first lace! :-)
I would love to try the Blue Heron rayon...not only because I love all things sparkly, but because I'm (sadly) allergic to wool. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
jenniem on Rav
LOVE The Blue Heron Rayon Metallic. I have a Clapotis on my list for me, but who ever gets to knit for themselves?????
The FLY design Pashmara is gorgeous. The color instantly caught my eye. I love blue and that shade is just perfect! It a very close tie between that and the Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk in yet another gorgeous blue!
The purple on the bottom row took my breath away and then I looked more closely and sawit was Pashmina! I would love to win Pashmina - I've never owned anything with Pashmina in its name!!
All those yarns are so lovely, but I'd really like to try the Raven Frog Fiber Arts Marvelous Merino!
the pashmara is beautiful! that color jumped out at me right away. :D
I love the blue of the Fly Designs Pashmara. It is gorgeous.
I love all the blue tones in Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk. Not sure what I would make with it.
I like the Misti Alpaca Tonos Pima Silk. The blue is a beautiful color. Not sure what I would make, maybe some fingerless gloves or a scarf. patsycoats@bellsouth.net
I really love the silk stainless from Habu Textiles. I'm a metallurgist when I'm not knitting, and so being able to join the two parts of my life would be awesome! I would probably search through the patterns already made with it and do something simple that would show off the unique qualities of this yarn.
I loved your podcast :) I also really LOVE the Cherry Tree Hill Supersock - yellow is my favorite!!! I am an avid sock knitter - my kids all beg for more, lol!
Jenny (renewedmind on Ravelry)
I love the color of the yarn in box # 2! It would make a lovely shawl!
Thanks
I would love to try the Raven frog yarn - it looks beautiful. Thanks!
I really love the Raven Frog yarn ... so rich and beautiful. This is the first time I've ever seen or heard of it ... where have you been hiding?? I have such fond memories of our cruise to Alaska and especially of Sitka, which was my favourite stop of all.
I love the Misti Alpaca yarn in box #1. I think it would make a great cowl or cardi. Such a beautiful color! Great podcast!
So many pretty choices but I think the Habu Silk Stainless Steel intrigues me the most.
I like the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed-- what a great color!
Would love to try the malabrigo lace, I keep hearing wonderful things and haven't yet tried it!
Man oh man, the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed PIIIINK looks gorgeous! I could think of so many beautiful things to make with that!
Ohhh, decisions, decisions...I'd have to go with the Malabrigo Lace, just because I've heard so many good things about this yarn but have never had the opportunity to meet a skein in person!
The fly designs pashmara is calling to me. What a fabulous color! Perfect to pull me out of the oil spill/hurricane season dumps!
I'm nolaboard on Ravelry.
I'm having a hard time deciding between the Raven Frog or the Cascade Heritage Solid. Those ones just really catch my eye!
one word - Cascade. Thanks!
I totally want the first yarn (the upper left hand box). That color is so beautiful!
I would love to try the Malabrigo lace yarn, also. Thanks so much for the chance!
Bookboxer
i love the louisa harding hand-dyed. i have been eyeing a couple of projects on ravelry that would work up beautifully in it! pink is not normally something i would go for, but this colorway is eyecatching! and i absolutely loved hearing the podcast..keep 'em coming!
I would love to try that Blue Heron Rayon Metallic. It just looks so fun and pretty. I'd love to make a sparkly shawl for the fall.
I thought I was going to pass on this contest, because I try to only enter contests for things I really want. But man that Habu stainless steel is haunting me. I don't know what on earth I would knit with it, but I LOVE it.
I like the first box in the third row (the Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino), mainly just because of the lovely colors. I spent so long pouting over the photo! Really I couldn't decide between that yarn and the metallic one....
I would love to try Trendsetter Yarn's Cha Cha, the colorway looks great.
Oh gosh...I think I've narrowed it down to the Louisa Harding. Tough choice tho...they all look great!! Congrats on the podcast. I will give it a listen.
jendada on Ravelry
The yarn that caught my eye is the Misty Alpaca Tonos Pima Silk. First it was the blue color, next because it was cotton and silk, and lastly you mentioned in the podcast that it was a DK weight. I'm torn between using it for myself or knitting something as a gift!
Oh my! Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic is absolutely amazing! It speaks fun & funky to me and my eye was drawn to it immediately.
The bright blue 2nd from the left on the bottom row...i can't tell what kind of yarn that is but love the color! this was a hard one!
My choice? Habu Textiles Silk Stainless. Why? The idea of silk and stainless intrigues me so much so that I want to see how it will work up, perhaps in a shawl or cabled headband. But more importantly (and probably quite silly), I want to see whether the finished project will set off metal detectors at the airport.
I recently had a chance to feel Misti Alpaca and fell in love with it - therefore, I would love the Misti Alpaca's Tonos Pima Silk.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
And I am really excited about your new podcast!
I love both the Misti Alpaca Tonos Pima Silk--the color blows me away--and the Cascade Yarns Heritage Solid--again, FABULOUS color! Either one would make a great shawl or scarf to give to my MIL at Christmas...or maybe one of the kids' teachers. :)
I love the Raven Frog yarn also. I am more of a solids person, thought I would branch out a bit and try something new...
i choose pashmara because it is the most beautiful color and who wouldn't love a combo of merino, cashmere and silk! i would make a lovely lacy scarf with it.
The Blue Heron Rayon Metallic is gorgeous. I've never used it - but, would I love to.
nhsarab at yahoo dot com
I'd like to win the Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino. I'm loving the Rust in it!
Great podcast. Hope you do many more.
I will drive out to you from Columbus, OH to pick up that FLY Design's Pashmara. (kidding) But seriously, for some reason I'm drawn to bright colors like the blues and purples. If that's half as bright in person as it is in the picture, I think I'm in love.
Great job on the podcast :) I like hearing how people sound. Sounds like the LYS tour was a lot of fun.
Such beautiful yarn!! I think I would love the Louisa Harrding or the Manos- the colors are beautiful! All if the yarns are so pretty!!!
I love the Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino. The color is just gorgeous!
The Misti Alpaca Tonos just calls to me! The fabulous blue actually would bring out my daughter's eyes!
A pretty shawl or neckwarmer, close to the face would be wonderful!
I would love to win the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed yarn. This is a yarn I've been wanting to try, almost ordered it several times but didn't. Hope I finally get my chance to try this yarn
Awesome as always ~ the Misti Alpaca Tonos would be right up my alley for a new hat design!
for me, the decision between the raven frog and the louisa harding is super tough, but ultimately i'd chose the grace both because of the silk content, and the awesome color. i so hope i win!
I would love to try to knit with the Habu, because I'm teaching myself to spin and bought some steel wool to try to card in with wool myself, this yarn would give me insight, inspiration and the chance to see where else my lace knitting can go.
That said, Raven Frog is gorgeous and it seems impossible to get in the UK. I'd be overjoyed with either and would love to be the first to take advantage of your new international shipping!
Wow is't really hard to choose... but if I was the lucky winner I would love to try Malabrigo Lace and knit the shawl Haruni by Emily Ross. Good luck to everyone! Congrats on becoming a podcaster...I will be listening tomorrow, I can't wait!!!
I'd love to try the Habu silk stainless steel. The colours say springtime, and I've wanted to try knitting with this for awhile, but haven't had the budget for it.
I love the Raven Frog Fiber Art's Marvelous Merino, so pretty and looks so soft. I like the rules... Very straight forward and honest! Way to go!
Hi Ve, congratulations on your first podcast - I had a blast listening to it and with you on the tour. I love so many of those yarns you got in your box, but I'm most curious about the stainless steel - would make a nice scarf.
I would love to try the Louisa Harding grace hand dyed. It looks absolutely stunning.
The Blue Heron's Rayon Metallic is beautiful! It would look great all knitted up to make a Little Miss Green Jeans sweater for my niece! She would love the sparkles! I'm crossing my fingers!
I am almost done with my first shawl, and it is HUGE! I would love to used the Blue Heron to make a smaller shawlette for the summer. Thank you for the opportunity to win yarn!
I think the Blue Heron Rayon Metallic is absolutely gorgeous. I don't have much experience working with nicer yarns (I'm guilty of using too much yarn from Michaels and AC Moore), so I would love to knit a feather and fan or some other lacy scarf with such pretty colors in a yarn so different from what I usually use.
I would love to try the Louisa Harding's Grace Hand-dyed. The color is so beautiful!
i would choose Cherry Tree Hill's Supersock Solids. looks like an awesome yellow!
The FLY Design's Pashmara is gorgeous! I love the color, and it looks like the skein is large enough to be able to make something substantial.
POSTING FOR THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. Thank you everyone for posting! -Ve
