Onto the good stuff... I'm absolutely in love with this week's giveaway! Not only do we have a super talented, smart, funny, lovely, darling guest, Liz Abinante, who is famous on Ravelry for her Traveling Woman shawl, but we also have a fantastic and equally talented indie dyer as our yarn sponsor this week, The Plucky Knitter. Sarah who is the lady behind The Plucky Knitter hand dyes stunning skeins of yarn and her yarn literally sells out in minutes when she posts her dyed treasures up in her Etsy shop. If you have not heard about these gals, what yarn skein have you been living under?!

I had the opportunity to chat with Liz about her new Traveling Woman Collection and do a l'il interview with her on Skype recently. Check it out!

Thank you so much for visiting us, Liz! It was a treat to have you here on YOTH!

This past October I had a chance to knit the original Traveling Woman shawl pattern (which is still remaining a free pattern, by the way). It is the shawl that I decided to knit for my mom's 50th birthday present, and I made it special by adding Swarovski crystal beads to the pattern while knitting it. My mom truly loves her shawl and Jasmine modeled it in the snow for me to show off this week!

If you would like to know more about my bead placement and see my pattern notes, see my Ravelry project here.

Liz and The Plucky Knitter have put together a ridiculously good giveaway this week for you:

TWO followers have the opportunity to win a PDF copy of the new Traveling Woman Collection e-book and one of the below Plucky Knitter Primo fingering weight yarn skeins (light blue-gray = An Early Light & pink-purple = Wee Bit Sassy).

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 1/9/11. Liz wants to know: If you could live in a knitted house made of any yarn (time and cost are not a factor), what yarn would it be and why?

Liz's answer, "I would live in a house made of Berroco Lumina in Space Odyssey for no reason other than I want to live in a shiny silver house. I've never actually knit with this yarn, and I'm sure it's impractical and feels odd, but it's so shiny! I would love to live in a space house. I would have bobbles for door knobs and ornate lace windows. It would be the most gaudy house on the block and the envy of knitters everywhere. Obviously."

I'll randomly pick the winners on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

Thank you again for another wonderful giveaway!! I think if I had to choose I'd have a house knit out of various colors of STR. It would be a wonderfully colorful house that would probably have christmas lights up all year round and have lots of lawn ornaments to help tie it all together. But I would love it and it would be so comfy to live in.

Kayla said...

I'd love to live in house from Noro silk merino - this yarn looks great and make fantastic feeling!

Anonymous said...

My house would be out of Malabrigo Merino Worsted in white, and I'd be brushing against the walls as I walked all the time, to feel the softness of it constantly...

Unknown said...

I'm still discovering new yarns, but I love Blue Sky Alpacas worsted yarns, especially Worsted Hand Dyes. It's soft and feels nice

Renewedmind on ravelry said...

What a great question! My house would have to be made of Spud & Chloe. It would be oh so cozy and durable. It would also be completely washable and have the most wonderful colors like Pollen, Splash, Turtle & Firefly.

What a beautiful giveaway!! Thank you so much for it!
I think that I would live in a house made out of Cascade 220 Wool- I love the many colours, and have made many projects with it! I think my house would have lots of garter: simple but squishy :)

Anonymous said...

It's not very practical, but I would love a house made of wollmeise yarn. I love their deep hues and the softness.

Robin said...

What an awesome give away. I would have a house made of 100% merino wool. I get cold easy and it is warm and I like the feel of it!

Barb T. said...

I would choose any of Quince and Co. beautiful and functional yarns!!

Amanda said...

I'd like a knitted and felted Cascade 220 ski chalet in the Alps. Woodland colors with little red spotted felted mushrooms here and there...and a felted fondue pot.

Beathag said...

I don't think I would like to live in a house knitted only with one yarn. It would be too boring... maybe different yarn foe each room? This would be better!

Galia Lael said...

I would like to have a felted house. It's more solid, water resistant and I think it would wear better. Not knowing any good felting yarns, I would be satisfied with anything that felts real good (I know, I'm too practical. I should just go with Malabrigo...).

Anonymous said...

I'd want to knit a house with handspun BFL, better get spinning ;)

Page said...

I think my house would be Koigu KPPPM because it is soft, practical (superwash), and yet so colorful that my house would be a work of art. Every room would be full of visual interest!

Jess said...

I think I'd live in a house of undyed merino wool yarn so I could paint it however I wanted whenever the mood struck me. As an indie dyer I guess I prefer the blank canvas to play with instead of one that's already dyed. :)

Great giveaway -- funny question! I want a house made of Bugga! The colors, the softness, oooh.

Phyllis said...

What a fun and funny question! I'm afraid I'm too practical and start thinking of what would be strongest. Really, I would rather have a pretty house, though, like something from the incredible Gradiance Collection that you showcased recently.

Kamigaeru said...

I'd want a house of of Beaverslide Dry Goods Fisherman weight. I love wool, it's super soft, and this stuff just has a great squish factor! And maybe some curtains out of Skaska laceweight. :-)

CeltChick said...

Ok, I've thought about it--I think I'd like my wool house in an undyed merino & alpaca blend, felted for windproofing & privacy. Then I'd get crazy with dyes, and have a super colorful cottage! I really like the Traveling Woman design, especially as the pattern for the scarf includes ideas about other yarn weights. Thanks for a terrific giveaway!

Haley said...

If I were going to live in a knitted house, I think it would be made of a heather gray Shetland wool...possibly felted.

pigbook1 said...

something sturdy with a soft hand. maybe a merino/alpaca/shetland mix? Definitely lace weight my favorite yarn is lace even if I don't knit it as often as other weights

JoAnnaJae said...

My house would be made of something core-spun and shiny and hot pink and purple.

Kassia said...

What a fun question! :) I'd have a combo house....socks that rock for part (love love love that yarn!), noro kureyon (love the colors!), and dream in color classy (love those colors too!). Even though I should make it all superwash (I've got 3 kids), I'd still use the kureyon because I love the combinations of colors.

StaceyKnitsIt said...

Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande to keep me cozy and warm.

Debbie said...

I would definitely live in a house made of Mmmmalabrigo. I would never want to leave it, though, so it would be difficult to enhance the stash but I guess I could find a way. . . .
Great giveaway! I just started a Saroyan yesterday (with, of course, Malabrigo!)and I love both colors of the Plucky Knitter yarn!

susanmhj said...

It would have to be malabrigo, so soft and squishy and beautiful colors. And every room would be a different color!

Denise said...

Oh I love Plucky Knitter, I have some of her wonderful yarn from her Plucky Classic series, and I just faved the lovely lace shawl :)
I'd probably live in a 'Malabrigo Merino' house with fun fur around windows, ha ha :)

Susan G said...

I am going to say Donegeal Tweed in Navy - as this is a bit old fashioned but in an deep dark navy which I love - it would be a warm inviting house that would not be at all fussy so it would be filled with family and friends always.

Sole said...

I'd live in a granny square house made with scrap yarn. Combining different weights, materials and colors will be fun!

Sangeetha said...

can I choose more than one.

Noro, Malabringo, Cascade, Rowan & a few others

Rachel R. said...

I love Liz Abinate's designs - I've made a Traveling Woman and it is my very favorite shawl.

What a funny question - I love it! I'm going to pick a yarn a few others have already - Malabrigo, but I'm going to go with Rios - I just used it for the first time, and it's so soft and the colors are just beautiful!

Ginger said...

I would go with any alpaca because it's so cold and harsh right now and alpaca would be very warm and soft.

Jen Price said...

Those colors are beautiful! To pick a yarn...oh, my! I'm currently in love with Debbie Bliss' cashmerino!

Zenitude said...

I would love to live in a house made with Fleece Artist hand dyed yarns. The blending of colours is just too perfect.
Loved the interview with Liz and would love to be a winner!!

knitterlydesigns said...

Great giveaway! I would live in a house made out of Malabrigo worsted, and it would be wall to wall blankets in every color so you never get bored. It probably would be quite hideous as well.

Susan said...

I'd live in a house made of Wollmeise, her colors are awesome and they wear like iron. No big bad wolf will blow my house down! Ha!

Erin said...

My first instinct is Malabrigo--beautiful colors and so soft. But maybe I need a room knit in alpaca and one in buffalo gold. I'd end up crawling everywhere, or slithering like a snake.

Courtney said...

What a spectacular giveaway! I would love my house to be knit out of Frog Tree Alpaca. I love the soft halo it has when knit. I think more things in life could use a soft focus like this. I just hope that I could keep my cats from grooming it all day!

Lisaknits said...

A house made of wool...what an interesting thought.
I would choose a sturdy wool that would felt such as cascade 220.
Like the little pig who built his house out of bricks.

Rae Lynne said...

I don't know if my yarn house would actually hold it's shape or eventually start to sink to the floor, but I'd love to have a big squooshy (yes, squooshy, not squishy) house made of Spud & Chloe Outer in vertical stripes of Carbon, Hedge & Bubble. Every other stripe would be a cable, and every other cable would be different. The windows would have linen stitch curtains made of S&C Fine, and the roof would be moss stitch. :) Mostly, I love how Outer is so huggable. You know those padded walls in some hospitals? That's what my house would be like so I could walk around hugging my walls!! :)

Rae Lynne on Ravelry

Jodi said...

Now that's quite the question! I'd live in a house of the Plucky Knitter's MCN! So soft and plush, and such beautiful colors.

Rae Lynne said...

oops - I meant raelynne01 on Ravelry!!

marlie said...

I would opt for Madelinetosh Merino Light in Candlewick. I loved knitting the first project with it a couple of months ago that I'm going back for more!

Liz said...

I think I would live in a knitted house of Cascade Eco, one of the un-dyed natural brown colors. It'd always be warm and cozy, plus it would look lovely with other more luxurious knitted color accents.

mommieof4munchkins said...

Right now I would probably say Spud and Chloe, just because I love their stuff and I probably have enough in my house to knit a house ;) Love the giveaway this week the pink/purple yarn is my fave and your shall is amazing, you almost have me convinced to knit one myself!

Elspeth H. said...

I'd love to live in a house knit out of Rowan wool cotton in shades of grey and brown. Doesn't that sound warm and cozy? If I could get away with having a fireplace in such a flammable house, that would seal the deal.

Judi A. said...

I'm not as familiar with the various yarns as most, but I do know my house would have to be a yarn a beautiful shade of pink, with a bit of a shimmer to it. Small pearls scattered throughout would be nice, with large pearl doorknobs. Ahh..lace covered windows would be nice, too. What a fun thing to get the imagination going! :-)

Ely said...

I'm torn.. I'd love to live in a house of Wollmeise for the incredible softness, amazing colours and the sheer excessiveness of it. On the other hand, with time and cost not being an issue, can I have an alpacca worsted weight white base for the first floor and fingering weight merino for the second and silk/merino lace for the third and hire a different indie dyer to do each room?

Clicky Needles said...

I'd like it to be Artesano Hummingbird - it'll be warm and soooo colourful as well.

Lydia said...

rowan felted tweed-i like a lotta bang for my buck and i'd have the most durable house on the block. it would be very warm and cozy too.

Natalie Servant said...

A knitted house? The thing that popped into my head first was Handmaiden's Camelspin. It's a treat to work with & I love so many of their colourways.

patsy said...

My house would be made of Cascade 220 because I like this yarn and my freind Susan is a rep. for it.

Sue said...

Being a new knitter I am not familiar with all the yarns out there, but I would live in a house of Lana Grossa Ciao - 002. The deep hues of it remind me of falls back home in Upstate NY, and it would make me feel cozy and warm.

Anonymous said...

My home would be knit in Sublime Organic Merino, color Laundry. I love the color and I think it would make a warm, soft, bouncy, and airy house to live in.

josiekitten said...

I think I'd choose something snuggly, like Misti Alpaca!

Megan said...

I love so many different yarns that it is hard to choose. Definitely something with merino and cashmere! Thanks for hosting the giveaway...I'd love to win!

kristyh1981 said...

My house would be made of any and all Miss Babs yarns! I just love her colors and all of her yarns I have tried have just been a joy to work with.

Rav Id: Kristyh1981

Kristen said...

Tough question! I love the colors of Wollmeise, and the feel of yarns like baby alpaca, cashmere etc.

Elaine said...

It's too much to ask to choose just one! My house would have Cascade Eco Wool in the natural colours, Elsebeth Lavold silky wool, Spud and Chloe, Handmaiden Casbah and Flaxen, and Louet Linen to start. Each has its own character and purpose!

SnohoTina said...

I would live in a house from Madeline Tosh's Pasmina...so soft and such lovely colors.

Beth said...

Wow, what a clever question...and how difficult to answer! Let's see...I think I'm going to go with practicality and comfort and say Cascade 220 Superwash. It comes in some very nice colors that would work both for neutral backgrounds (walls!) and decorative accents.

Anonymous said...

Hmm... it would probably have to be Malabrigo worsted in some shade of blue... It's such a buttery soft yarn!

Mara Acoma said...

Hmmm... This is a tricky one as there are so many yummy yarns out there. I think that it would have to be Alpaca though. Beautifully soft and really warm in the winter :-)

Emily said...

As I tend to be allergic to wool and even alpaca a bit, I'd have to go with (appropriately sourced) cashmere. This would also reduce my clothing budget. ;) Thanks for the giveaway!

Anonymous said...

I am such a huge fan of the plucky knitter, and would love to live in a house made of plucky! Her primo base is wonderful, but who wouldn't love a house of plucky cashmere... I'd be velcroed to that house! Ok, but since that's just a pipe dream, I'd love to win her skeins of yarn instead, and Liz's patterns are gorgeous and just perfect for plucky!

Unknown said...

Great interview, what a lovely lady!
I think I would go for Cascade 220 in all of the colours of the rainbow. I could do a colourwork front door!

odessa said...

I would have to go with a Malabrigo house because it seems like it would be soft and cozy.

odessa.who.rox@gmail.com

Kim said...

I have to pick ONE? I don't think I can do that! I would want all kinds of fibers and colors so that even if I go blind I will still be able to feel all the different squishy goodness... and in the colors I would likely pick, I probably would go blind. :D

Brenda said...

I was going to say Malabrigo, but maybe that's too soft...
For something sturdy, I'd like Noro Kureyon. I wouldn't need any art on the walls - they would already be colorful :-)

heather said...

I'd have to choose Malabrigo, because it would be so soft ... although that might be it's downfall ... Thanks for the giveaway!

V said...

Ooooh.....I am horrible at decisions. My initial reaction was malabrigo worsted in cuarzo- I knitted my very first sweater (it was for a friend- the deal was she bought the yarn and I knit the sweater....I think I got the better end of the deal since I got to play with malabrigo for a few weeks!) out of it, but I am also tempted by Manos handspun multi colors in violets since the variety from the kettle dyed yarn would be fun to look at.

sgfishy@me.com said...

I would have to live in a Plucky Aran Cashmere home in a vibrant pink and purple so I could stay nice and cozy all winter long!

LJ said...

i would live in a house of Blue Sky Alpacas mix of melange, cotton, and worsted. Beautiful colors and a comfortable space. :)

KatieDid Crafts said...

Cream Cashmere. Soft luxurious and so wonderfully soft. Plus is somewhat warm!

Kate said...

My house would be a heather gray worsted wool, it's just so warm and inviting and comfy!

Boy, oh boy, this is a GREAT giveaway!

My house . . . Twinkle sock yarn from Easyknits. I have never knit with the yarn, it's hard to get living in the States, but it has bright color selections with sparkle. It's also extra soft so when my kiddos fall they won't get hurt. Love it!

Anna said...

I think I would want a felted house. I live in the pacific northwest and it's really cold and wet here. I'd want the inside to be light shades of blues and purples and maybe some yellow, but I'd want the outside to be beige or something that wouldn't show dirt. Ok, now I'm thinking way too hard about this.

mprezzia said...

Awesome giveaway! Loved the Traveling Woman pattern, and yours is gorgeous!

If I had a house of yarn, it would most definitely be made of Malabrigo Worsted! I love the semisolid colors soooo much, and it's so freaking soft! Plus I'm a little chilly now, and mal is really warm.:D

sbflame said...

(pun completely intended but) I would want my knitted house made of Jared Flood Shelter because with the gorgeous color palette and stitch definition I could have cabled walls galore and would save a ton on artwork. Plus the tweedy nature of the yarn would make for a cozy place to snuggle up in on wintry days!

Gina said...

Another great giveaway!
I'd have to go with Blue Sky Alpaca worsted yarn. So soft and warm!

Evan said...

i would love a knit house made of malabrigo merino worsted in 51 VAA. it would be dark and beautiful like the sea.

Cindy said...

Something about a felted hut for a house sounds very appealing ... so, although it would be scratchy, a single ply 100% wool yarn.

andrea said...

I would live in a rainbow colored house made with each and every color of Spud & Cloe yarn. I can just imagine all the textures from all the weights of yarn! I could never pick one or two colors as I love them all!!!

flossieKNITS said...

oh man, what a fantastic question - I think it might be your best yet!
I would love to live in a house made out of malabrigo worsted weight yarn, because it is so beautifully colorful and wonderful. I can just imagine the accent colors over the windows and doors and the lovely mottled red I would choose for the chimney.
HOWEVER, I would absolutely insist on owning a country house made out of artyarns! All the artyarns you can imagine, those silky, lustrous, beaded, speckled yarns in every color, because that would be real luxury.

LeAnn said...

Oooh, I would love to have a house made from Madelinetosh tosh merino light, only so that I can rub and squish my walls all the time!

Anonymous said...

I am so inspired. Thank you for the chance. Merino wool...I always come back to it:)

InJuneau said...

I would have to live in a house made of some kind of dense wool yarn that had been felted to keep out the rain and wind, because of where I live. I think I'd felt beautiful accents on it though, to make it cheerier.

Pamela said...

It would have to be cascade alpaca. It's so soft. You could just snuggle into your house.

Sarah V. (Barf Green Is Best) said...

It has to be a Noro Silk Garden house, for me. As unpopular as it is, the colour changes would make me really happy :) (SarahVV on Rav)

I would have a felted house so that it would stay up! But it would take forever to knit. Eek.

My yarn house would be made of Rauma 3 ply Strikkegarn and lined with Malabrigo sock, because it would be durable on the outside and soft and cuddly inside. Also, my yarn house would be shaped like a giant mitten.

Katie Lohrenz said...

I'd love to live in a house made of laceweight Malabrigo. I'm using it for a scarf at the moment, and I keep daydreaming about sleeping in a whole bed made of it.

A Malabrigo house. Hands down, no question about it. And Malabrigo furniture, so I could curl up and knit and sleep on it!

KittyJ said...

WOW! I would love to live in a house made of Malabrigo - all weights and colors mixed with amazing yarns from all my favorite Etsy shops! A sensual color and texture spectacular! I made a sweater that is lovingly called Zandra Weasley (if you know Mrs. Weasley you have some ideas of what I'm talking about) with mixed yarns and colors - a house to match - what a dream!

Jan said...

What a whimsical question!

My first thought was Claudia Hand-Painted Silk, because it is so beautiful and feels great, but then the practical side said something about warmth, so I thought of Cascade 220.

Maybe the outer walls of Cascade 220, and the inner walls of the silk. Various colors, as I loooove the beautiful variegated and tone-on-tones!

Thanks for another beautiful contest!

No felted houses for me! I would live in a house made of elsebeth lavold Silky Flamme. I was lucky to get several skeins for Christmas! Peruvian wool, silk, and alpaca. I honestly do not think there is a softer fiber on this planet. Why would I want to make my house of this yarn? It would be like sleeping inside of a cloud!

I would pick Habu silk stainless even though I have never seen or felt this yarn in person. However, the sense I have when I look at photos is "architectural." And the sheen from the silk. Wouldn't that be lovely to wake up to every morning?

My house would be felted using the workhorse Cascade 220. The interiors would be a mixture of Wollmeise, Quivit, Cashmere...I love the soft yarns!

I love to knit with yarns either named for someone/something I love or made from yarn produced somewhere I've been - made a Romantic Ruby blanket with Berocco Comfort yarn in the Sanibel colorway to celebrate our son's wedding & honeymoon ... so, something soft, soft, soft and local. ???

Thanks for the fun interview. If I were to knit a house, I would use good felting wools for the walls, floors, etc. Ella Rae, Cascade 220, etc. I would use cashmere and merino and such for beds, blankets, cushions to sit on, etc.

Rachel said...

Very easy choice for me: Koigu KPPPM (I never know if I put enough P's or too many there,,,) as I would love to live in a rainbow house and this is the ultimate yarn to create one of those. Don't you agree? :)

Ohhhh hmmm there are so many choices of yarn. I think I would knit my house in something EXTREMELY bulky and strong resistance that will hold up for a long period of time.

Then I would go nuts on furniture in a Merino Cashmere. I've recently discovered a fondness for it in any color but especially Plum,Teal,Orange, and Red. (not all together mind u)

What a great video The knitter seems so down to earth and I've had this traveling women shawl in my to do list just havent finished my xmas knitting yet (oops is Jan already!)

Yep, Sundara reds definitely.

I think I would go with something acrylic, like red heart in coffee fleck.

I live in Canada where it's often wet and cold. Acrylic wouldn't get as smelly in the rain or snow as wool, and it rarely gets hot here, so it wouldn't melt.

A house made of yarn? Mmm, better be something really nice and soft, maybe something like merino wool - even if it rained, it would only felt and remain really nice and soft!

Let's see, if I were going to live in a house made of yarn, I think it would have to be Sanguine Gryphon Bugga because it's so soft and wonderful and would hopefully keep me toasty. If I were designing it today, it would probably in Blue Lobster.

Buster said...

I would like to live in a house made of Tanis Fiber Arts Purple Label (it's cashmere). It's soft and squishy and a little bit indulgent.

Rachelle said...

My knitted house would be a mix of fibres. Floors would be a longwool, possibly Lincoln, curtains would be cashmere as it's so warm and seating would be a tightly spun Merino

Rlynn said...

Definitely a house built with Malabrigo Baby Lace. Yummiest merino lace ever it's like cashmere. The walls would be in an off-white colorway, and the interior would be double-knitted in warm oak and green and red. There would be a knitted chandelier, too, and the stairway would be covered in seed stitch.

I would have to pick an alpaca yarn for my house - I can't pass by one without picking it up! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Knititall said...

Ha, I love this week's question :D I think I'd want a house in Malabrigo Merino Worsted, it would be very warm and soft and it would felt nicely to keep the rain out. Though I might have to add a layer of Malabrigo Rios for the roof because it's superwash. Merino Worsted as insulation and inside walls and Rios on the outside, that sounds just about right :)
Thanks for having Liz Abinante as a guest, Traveling Woman was the first shawl I knit (and it got me hooked).

I think I'd like to live in a house made of DIC Smooshy. Just thinking about it makes me feel cozy!

Pixiewear said...

okay - this is going to sound strange, since whenever I knit with this yarn it drives me crazy, but I'd knit my house out of noro silk garden. The colors are so interesting that I have to watch as I knit, just to see what will come up next. And even tho' there's usually one color in every skein that I think I hate, invariably I end up loving the result. I like to imagine a house with fascinating colors in every room... Thanks for the chance to win!

Cindy said...

My house would be made from Schulana Merino Cotton - I just knit with this yarn, and loved every second of it. Thanks for the giveaway!

Unknown said...

Well, right now I'm hooked on Rowan Lima - crack for your hands - so I'd have to pick that. Sooooooo soft. Thanks for a great giveaway!

CarolineN said...

That's another great giveaway ☺ I would live in a house knit out of all the Cascade 220 colours! I've knit two Liesl with the Heather one, and it's so comfy. My house would be decorate with knit flowers, cushions, and blankets. I would probably have a full knit clothes collection from top down!

Michelle said...

What a fun question! I think it would be Aslan Trends Royal Alpaca, SO soft and SO warm and currently I am using pepto pink :)

Karey said...

Thanks for the great giveaway. I would love to live in a knitted house made out of Lorna Laces yarn, but now I think I about it maybe each room would need to be a different yarn oh so many choices I would then have lots of rooms :)

W.G. Woolens said...

Maybe because it has been below zero all week here, I keep thinking of a house made of soft, natural colored roving. Light would filter through during the day, and I could burrow into it like a mouse when it gets cold.

Rebecca said...

I think I'd like in a Noro house - lots of color and yummy texture...thanks for the giveaway...

Nicole said...

I would live in a house made of all different types of yarn! The walls and ceiling would need to be wool, because wool is warm. The doors would be silky, so that I could feel them as I walk between rooms. Brands and such don't really matter, I just love the feelings!

Tanya said...

oooh...I would like Louisa Harding's Grace Hand Dyed because the colors are amazing and really? A wool/silk house? Who wouldn't?

Laurie said...

Great giveaway! I think I would use hand dyed sock yarn from Saffron Dye Works. Beautiful colors! Knit tight for cozy rooms in winter and lace for summer breeze. By the way.....I am also a big "Bones" fan. On my needles right now is your Saroyan pattern! Love it!

I think Malabrigo Worsted in olive would be soft and cozy and beautiful!!

I would live in a house made from DT Craft and Designs 100% Baby Alpaca. I'd never be cold again!

I would like to live in a house made of self-spun light grey Wensleydale wool. I love the feel and its shine. It's cosy and warm.

What a fun question. I'd live in a house of Lopi, knit up in wonderful colorwork designs. The yarn is perfect for the pacific northwest where I live and the colors reflect the beauty of this landscape (and alleviate those dreary winter days!)

JodyT said...

This is a tough one but I think I'd go with Blue Sky Alpaca bulky hand dyed. It would just be so warm and fuzzy.

JanetK said...

beautiful giveaway! If cost were no object, I'd have a house knit from qiviut yarn. Sooooo soft!

Jana said...

Wow, a tough one. I would have to say Bugga since it would be cushy and warm OR I have to pick String Theory Continuum in all different color striping, cuz I am a self striping addict. I know 2 is wrong, but I don't wanna be right. ha.

LauraP said...

I would like a house out of yarntini yarn; soft yet colorful.

ditetre@mac.com said...

Oh my--- I'd like every room to be a different yarn... anything Noro, Shelter, Felici, some of my handspun.... how's that for starters!

Faith (the Vampire Slayer) said...

I'm torn between a house of Cascade 220 so that every "brick" could be a different color and a house of Red Heart so that it will withstand anything and remove it from the market so that new knitters would default to a yarn that is nicer to both their hands and needles.

crookedknits said...

Hmmm how to decide?? I'm going with String Theory Caper Sock Yarn. That little bit of cashmere just makes it so squishy. I can cuddle with my house then :o)

Marlitharn said...

Hmmm...Well, the kitchen would be superwash merino, the bathroom would be acrylic (so I could steam clean it), the living room would be alpaca, and the bedroom would be Elann Silken Kydd. Have to fit the yarn to the task, you know!

Stephanie RJ said...

For harvestability, it'd probably be Wollmeise... but for live-among-ability and felting properties, I think a delicious collection of Shetland yarns, including plenty of Starmore. Mmmmm.

mel said...

I'd probably pick cascade 220. Simply because of all the colors there are to choose from! Also its warm and I live in MN so I'm freezing right now!

Paula said...

I would choose a house made of Cascade 220. It is a sturdy yarn that comes in many lovely colors.

I appreciate the links to sites mentioned in the interview.

I recently discovered the Plucky Knitter but of course was too slow on the draw to get any yarn. I would be very excited to score this contest!

My current favorite yarn is Plymouth Ampato baby alpaca. I think that any yarn that makes you want to hug it next to your cheek is a great yarn.

Thanks,
Michelle

Sarah said...

Well, I'm not sure of the name, but there is a yarn at my LYS that is so soft, made of alpaca that I am dieing to use. I would also love to use some Madelinetosh. I've never used it, but I would love to. I love the Plucky Knitter and I'm always too late when she has her etsy sales, so I would love to win this prize! Thanks for the great chance and interview!

Sophia said...

Oh my goodness it would be Road to China by the Fibre Company!

Krystal said...

Great Northern Yarns Cashmere and mink yarn! Because it is sooo soft and cozy!!And I would choose radiant purple, because I love purple. I am fighting a major cold right now, so nothing sounds better than a soft, cozy house in a color that makes me happy.

SupaCindy3000 said...

My house would be made from thick and thin handspun in fall colors with some angelica thread spun in for shine!

twistedtexan said...

I'd live in a house made entirely from Alisha Goes Around Love Socks (merino, cashmere, nylon). That stuff is divine!!

Tracey said...

Mine would be madelinetosh. So soft and yummy :)

terip said...

i would live in a house knitted in cashmere, every surface would be oh so nice to touch!

Love the unique question - my house would be made of Noro for the color and comfort!

Anonymous said...

Felted Mochi Plus for the bulk of the house, with a dense undyed corriedale for the roof and lots of Malabrigo Silky Merino or Madeleinetosh Tosh DK for the bedrooms. :)

soxanne said...

Misti Chunky Alpaca.

Ok, it would be warm, but it's January in Minnesota so today's choice would be alpaca. If you were asking the same question in August the answer would be totally different!

Carla said...

Wow- great fun-
my house would be all shades of blue and out of super soft yarn- made up of at least 50/50 wool and silk!

Jody said...

What a great question. It would have to be my all time favorite yarn -- Koigu KPPPM. And it should be knit in mitred squares.

SovereignCrux said...

Hmm I think I would knit my house out of Blue Skies Alpaca Alpaca Silk because I love the colorways and textures, and I bet having a carpet made of that stuff would feel like absolute heaven -- especially to my cats.

It is hard to pick just one yarn. Maybe it would be fun to have each room knit from different Madelinetosh colors because they have a lot of complex semi-solids, which would be interesting but not overwhelming.

Suzanne said...

It was great to "meet" Liz! I'm really excited to see the release of the patterns with all the new details. My house of yarn might be made of Malabrigo or because I'm so tactile, I might just love a house constructed as a sampler with oodles of fine yarns.

Vee said...

I'd love to live in a house of Malabrigo sock in Chocolate Amargo. It's such a warm color, yet very sturdy.

Lael said...

I think I'd want a house made of wool from our sheep. Yarn spun by me, probably in natural Shetland colors - something with a bit of Fair Isle styling.

ikkinlala said...

If I could live in a house of yarn, it would probably be made of Briggs & Little Tuffy - not a flashy choice, I know, but one that I think would hold up well to the weather.

Frankly Beka said...

My knitted house would be made of all the unwanted, yet never tossed, balls of Red Heart: Super Saver yarn. The acrylic fibers won't break-down or felt like natural fibers, and there's amazing color selection. not to mention it would make room for more desire-able yarns in many stashes (including my own).

Susan J. said...

I'd live in a house made of Jade Sapphire Cashmere in masala, papricash and bing bing red. The colors would keep me happy and the soft, soft cashmere would keep me calm. Thanks for the giveaway!

Allison von Berg said...

I love Liz's Travelling Woman! I knitted it for my Mom for Christmas and since then I've recommended it to a few friends who are looking for a first lace shawl to knit. It has a wonderful flow that's intuitive.

Ok I don't know if I could pick ONE yarn to knit a house out of so can I say I'd pick one I wouldn't EVER knit a house out of....LH Kimona Angora...love the yarn and I can't help but touch it but I could see myself walking around feeling the walls and getting a snootful of fuzz constantly!

Oomingmak Qiviut!

Note: this answer mayyy have been inspired by Ontario winters, with an assist from my drafty, 90-year-old house.

Danielle said...

Totally a felted house. I love the look and feel of felted things.

Bardot said...

I'm pretty new to knitting and (unfortunately) don't have a LYS, so I'd have to say anything warm and cozy!! Something felted in a smokey blue hue sounds yummy!

i think i would dream up a simple house of natural alpaca, with a crazy colorful grannysquare roof! what a fun and whimsical question! its been so much fun to see what other people are dreaming up!

Rosie said...

I would live in a house of natural colors of alpaca. I don't have any specific yarn, maybe my own handspun. I just want to camouflage with the rest of the natural world! Plus, alpaca's awesome.

Anonymous said...

I would love a house knit out of classic elite alpaca! I made my mom a cardigan made out of this yarn and I wanted to lay in bed and cuddle with it! The yarn is beautiful and feels even better. Angelamolden is my rav name

Kate said...

Just one yarn? I think it would have to be merino - so soft and snuggly!

I would knit my house of Noro Kureyon. I love the idea of being surrounded by the earthiness and the amazing unpredictable colors. Of course my friends and I would spend hours in my wooly house drinking tea, knitting, and wearing our lovely Travelling Woman shawls made from Plucky Knitter cashmere.

Heidi said...

Chunky baby alpaca (Misti or Plymouth Yarn, makes no difference) because of the squishy lovely softness. It might be more of a nest than a house.
