This past weekend I got to meet the lovely indie designer and knitting artist, Theresa of Little Turtle Knits. Theresa designs lots of fun and functional knitwear. I think she's best known for her childrens' designs (i.e. Picky Pants, Swing Thing, and many others). She's also recently released some great hat patterns. I really love her Bricked hat! I would totally rock that myself. Watch the interview to learn more about Theresa and her designing...

Links and such from the videos:

- Little Turtle Knits

- Theresa on Rav

- Little Turtle Knits Patterns

- Picky Pants pattern

- Bricked pattern

- Knit + crochet thread that Katie from Yarn Love posted.

- Unspun Icelandic Wool

Thanks, Theresa for being our sponsor! There FOUR prizes this time! The first winner to contact me (in two weeks when winners' names are announced) will receive 2 skeins of their choice and the corresponding pattern/pattern choice from the options below, and the following winners will each receive their choice of yarn + pattern as they roll in. That means that the quicker you are to announce yourself if you win, the better chance you'll have at getting your top choice of goodies. Here are the prizes:

Three Irish Girls Westmarch skein of sport weight yarn in the Kelly colorway, and a choice of one of Theresa's sock patterns.

Punta Yarns Merisoft Hand Painted skein of aran weight yarn in a deep olive and black slightly variegated color, and a choice of Bricked or Honey Do Hat. (I actually used this yarn in a different colorway to knit up my Dindy Beret. Great stuff!!)

Cestari 100% Wool 2 Ply Worsted Weight skein in the Oatmeal colorway, and a choice of Bricked or Honey Do Hat.

Malabrigo Worsted skein in the Simply Taupe colorway, and a choice of Bricked or Honey Do Hat.

Little Turtle Knits Superwash Merino Wool skein in a beautiful coral, pink, purple, and blue mix, and a choice of one of Theresa's sock patterns. (This is yarn from when Theresa was dyeing up lovely colors herself.)

And, everyone will receive an adorable notepad that was handmade by Theresa herself. They are so cute!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 3/27/11. Theresa would like to know, "If you could design a (knit, crochet, or bi-craftual) outfit for any literary character, what what would it be and who would it be for?" Don't worry if you can't think of anything, you're welcome to just leave Theresa a nice comment instead. :)

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

What an interesting question! Which literary character would I knit for? If it can be a comic character, then I will say Bill Watterson's Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

Rachelle said...

Would love to be in the draw, though probably would knit something else, boys are getting older now.

Brilliant question! I'd knit a small blanket for Jane Eyre and Edward Rochester's child. I know Jane doesn't like fancy stuff for herself (she wasn't too keen on the lace veil that Bertha Rochester tore up, preferring her plain muslin square), but I'm sure she wouldn't mind something useful with a delicate (rather than intricate) pattern for her child.
Besides, it's always nice to be given things for your baby!

Ashley Farmer said...

Oooh This is cool! :) It would be for Elizabeth Bennett or her father from Pride and Prejudice. I am a total fanatic about Jane Austen books. If it was for Eliza, I'd probably knit a delicate lace shawl for her to took in the top of her dress. :)

beautiful yarn. I would really like to win. I am not sure what I would make I have so many ideas.

What an interesting question! I'd really love to design/knit a cozy sweater and socks for Lucy in The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe to keep her warm!

Barb T. said...

Great question with too many characters to think of but if pushed, I'd choose Abe Lincoln from Team of Rivals. Maybe a pair of fingerless gloves.

Elise said...

I hope I win! I love all the yarns. I think I am most addicted to Three Irish Girls!

Sue said...

Ms. Weasley from Harry Potter. She is always giving everyone sweaters, but never gets anything in return!

Faith (the Vampire Slayer) said...

I'd have to design for Anita Blake from Laurell K. Hamilton's book series. She wears the most insane and rediculous sweaters in several of the books that I feel I could get out any crazy knitting compulsion on her.

I would knit something for Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner Robin Hood - not Russell Crowe) simply in hopes of getting a hug or kiss from him as thanks. I have a bit of a crush.

Kamigaeru said...

That is a really good question Theresa came up with, and I honestly can't think of a good answer! Perhaps shawls for each of the Little Women?

Beautiful yarns and patterns!

Hmmm...I would design a beautiful sweater for Anodos from George MacDonald's Phantastes, for his forest wanderings. Fun question!

JoAnna said...

What a fantastic question!! I would knit warm things for Ethan Frome because I LOVE that book to bits and I think Ethan could use some warmth. Or maybe for Zeena so she weren't such a mean ole biddy.

Sparkee Spud said...

I would have to say if I could design an item for any literary character it would have to be Elizabeth from Pride and Predjudice. I think it would have to be some sort of lacey wrap or shawl!

Jen said...

Hmmmmmm. I'm having difficulty coming up with a fancy literary character, so I'll just pick a normal one. :)

Tamora Pierce has written a group of books about children with different magical abilities. Tris is the weather witch, so I would knit her a cool shawl to keep her warm when it's windy!

Sharripie said...

If I were to design knitwear for a literary character, it would probably be a squishy alpaca cardigan (more likely: a shrug) for Fanny Price, who would be excessively grateful that someone made such a gift for her and who would be amazed at the softness of such a fiber that would have been unheard of in the England of that time.
And I have to say how much I love the beautiful yarns from Three Irish Girls.

I think I would design a knit a scarf or piece of clothing based on one of my favorite children's books... a Native American story about how the crow lost it's colors... Something representing the rainbow, fire, and ash...

Ooh, interesting question. I'm re-reading Jane Eyre and thought I'd knit a cardigan for Jane, all the houses seem so cold!
Thanks for the giveaway!

Heather said...

Awesome question! I've always wanted to design something for Lee Scoresby from the His Dark Materials trilogy. Probably a sweater, thick and cozy for flying in, and with some cables or something to make it interesting, but subtle so it's not TOO interesting. And roomy, so Hester fits inside it.

Erin said...

Hmm, I think I'd like to design a shawl for Anne Shirley--something pretty, but a little off beat.

A cardigan for any character in a any story taking place in England. For some reason it always seems cold in those stories...

ahhh, I am thoroughly enjoying reading all these fabulous ideas as I drink my coffee this morning! I've always known that knitters are a literary lot ;) I've even found a few new books to read. I promise I'll play along and answer my own question, but I'm still fiddling with the idea in my head - maybe there will even be a sketch ;) Keep the awesome answers coming!

I don't know if i would base a design on any particular literary character. I like functional and modern knits. Not something too traditional. Maybe a sweater knit out of some wonderful cashmere or merino with some small cabling details up the side around the arms. I'm pretty simple.

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway :-)

My favorite character is probably not considered literary, but I love the Muppets, and Gonzo is one of my favorites. If I could design knitting patterns I would design a series (dream big) for the children in 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" The book series not necessarily the movies. That gives a wide range of ages between Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter. The first books of winter and then later is summer and then on the boat. So many opportunities for a wide range of items. Unfortunately, I am not at all creative and can't design my way out of a paper bag.

Elizabeth Bennet (Pride & Prejudice)--something in a deep scarlet color, perhaps a moderately lacey shawl, but not too girly. Someone so ahead of her time, so independent, yet so blind to truth should be dressed in something as appropriately shocking as her feministic opinions.

gorgeous goods! And what a fantastic question, lol. I think knitting something for little bo peep would be fun, maybe a rainbow cape!

I'd knit warm socks and fingerless mitts for Bob Cratchit of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I always felt so bad for him warming his hands over a candle. This was really fun reading everybody's responses. Love the notebooks.

Beautiful yarn. Need time to think about the literary character I'd knit for...

I'd design and knit an intricate patterned shawl for "Little Dorrit" (Charles Dickens). She was such a good hearted person in spite of her circumstances - she deserves something to keep her warm and cozy.

I did not know Little Turtle Knits! Very nice! Great interview as always! I'd like to participate to this great giveway. Thanks!

I would knit a cozy woolen shawl for Penelope, wife of Odysseus, of Homer's Odyssey. 'Penelope' means 'spindle loosener.' During the 20 years that her husband was away at the Trojan War, Penelope kept her suitors at bay by telling them that she would choose one of them as a husband as soon as she was done weaving a shroud for her father-in-law. She worked each day at her loom, and then unravelled the cloth each night.

I would knit something for each of the Dashwood sisters from "Sense and Sensibility". They deserve something pretty!

My fav author is Diana Gabaldon of the Outlander series. Her main male character is a big strong, sexy, Scotsman (late 1700's) and he's always undoing his kilt to wrap up in when he gets cold. I think I might like to knit him a fabulous blanket/throw so he doesn't have to take off his kilt ..... ohh wait.

Never mind. ;o)

Fabulous giveaway!

It has to be my childhood favorite "Charlotte's Web". I would like to design and knit a spiderweb shawl for Fern. She could sit and visit with Wilbur and solve the world's problems.

What delcious-looking yarn!

Hmmm, I think I'd design a cosy scarf for Mr Bilbo Baggins, to keep him warm on his travels. :)

How about Betty Boop!
What a funidea for a contest entry.

Oh, definitely Anne of Green Gables. She has such "scope for imagination" that I think it would be lovely to design something to match her red hair. And she was always pining after some ruffles, and I love ruffles too. (I'm rereading these books that I loved from my childhood!) Beautiful yarn!

I would design a lacy, puffy victorian dress for Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

I think "the luggage" could use something, perhaps a modular or log cabin blanket. Not familiar with the luggage? Made from sentient pearwood, it is a remarkable character from the Terry Pratchett Discworld series.

I think I would make a baby blanket for Pookie - Garfield's little cousin! Or the blankie could be for Linus! LOL Debbie in Alaska

I would like to knit a very practical warm, yet lacy, shawl for Mrs. Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter series in a wonderfully soft elegant yarn. I think someone should knit her something that is not just using up all the leftovers from her previous projects. It is resourceful of her, and I do appreciate that, but she is special and could do with a bit of pampering. ^_^

Kind of hard to be original at this point. But I think I would make a fashion forward sweater from Vogue for Becky Bloomwood, something that she would be daring enough to pull off.

If i was going to knit something for a literary character I'd pick Mr. Darcy. I know that's totally unoriginal but it was my first thought. Also, I wouldn't knit him the Mr. Darcy sweater from Knitty. But it would be brown and tweedy. :)

i think i would design something for sherlock holmes.

I would without question knit for Mary Russell in Laurie R King's Beekeeper's Apprentice series. That woman would have a serious appreciation for a fine handknit lace shawl. Even though she would lose it while chasing the villain in the final scene.

A most interesting question indeed! I thought I had a very good answer to this, but the more I think on it, the less I'm sure of a character to choose. Perhaps I would choose Ender Wiggin and his sister, Valentine. I imagine that they could definitely use some kind of nice knitted comfort would be very welcome while they were travelling between planets between the first and second books in the Ender's Game series.

I'd like to design something for Vin, from the Mistborn series. All those cold nights out, you'd need some warmth.

Oh, that's a hard call. Maybe a warm, textured scarf for Sherlock Holmes or a lovely lacy shawl for one of the elves in LOTR.
