giveaway #77

Last giveaway was an epic fail! Sorry, for the absence on the blogosphere. Unfortunately, the giveaway yarn never arrived. Sad, but true. Things happen, and I think that our package got lost in transit. Maybe someday it'll show up and I can save it away for a rainy day, but for now I have another giveaway to do.

This giveaway I have a surprise! You won't know what I'm giving away until I announce the winner. I originally had a giveaway scheduled for you, but the sponsor fell through and now here I was without another giveaway prize. So, I've got a really nice prize tucked away for just this sort of thing! And, I'm keeping it all a secret for the fun of it and because I don't have a last minute picture to use besides this...

mystergift

I know your going to love it though! I know, I would! Happy New Year to everyone, and I'll be back in a few days to share a fun project I knit over the holidays for a friend's little boy.

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 1/15/12. What's your New Year's knitting resolution this year? Do you want to finish all those UFO's, maybe you want to knit through your stash this year, or something else entirely?!

My New Year's knitting resolution is to fully update my Ravelry projects page and keep it up to date! I find myself knitting a lot more than actually photographing, blogging, and sharing my pics on Ravelry of my finished projects, and that's no fun! So, this year is going to be different. I've set some rules for myself. Let's see how it goes!!

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

My goal for this year is to shrink the stash - knit more, buy less, give away or trade the things I know I'll never use.

My goal this year is to design and release 12 patterns. Two are close to completion and several more are started or being dreamed about. I am excited to start something new though.

I also plan to get my entire stash updated on Ravelry with the locations put in. I organized it all into bins today, the bins will get numbers soon and then those numbers will go on Rav. I want to be able to find my yarn easily. :D

I would like to learn to double knit!

My goal is to actually knit the gifts for people that I have planned in my head, and never seem to get around to knitting.

Surprises are so fun!

My goals this year are mainly continuation goals: knitting down the stash, continuing at least one pair of socks a month for the SAM KAL. Knitting more skirts!

Happy Knitting in the New Year!!!

Trevor Walker said...

Definitely finishing the UFOs.

Beth said...

My goal is to knit things that I will actually use...which means I need to seriously evaluate the patterns and yarn I am knitting with. I'm drawn to the experience of knitting with yarns and patterns that turn out to be not the sort of things I want to wear. Time to figure out why this is! :)

JP said...

so many ideas for goals that I should probably narrow it down or I won't accomplish any. Or obsesses over how to accomplish multiple goals with one item :)

The overall theme though would be "challenge". I'd like to work down my stash while or before making items that are different from my normal range of quick and easy.

Zabbers said...

My new year's resolution for knitting seems kind of...low-ambition, but it's to not get any slower at knitting than I already am, given the rate at which I acquire stash and queued projects. But the thing is I'm going to be busier in the coming months, and I know a resolution to knit more won't be realistic.

katherinelynn_04 said...

My knitting resolution is to finish some of my ufo's and not buy any yarn without a project in mind. I seem to have a knack for buying pretty skeins and then come up with things to make with it and I didnt purchase enough yarn!

My Fiber goal is to update all yarn in and projects done- My personal goal is to lose some weight-

My knitting goal is to knit myself a cardigan and wear it this spring.

My resolution this year is to knit more sweaters. I often avoid them because I hate seaming, but there are plenty of seamless or nearly-so patterns out there to work on. No excuses!!! My hat and scarf baskets by the front door are OVERFLOWING. More sweaters, please.

My goal is to make some stuff for me! I have some cardis in my queue I'd like to get to. I'd like to also finish some stuffies for me kids before they grow too old for them. :)

Lindr said...

Well, I won't say that I won't buy any more pretty yarn because I know THAT won't happen! But I do want to use more of my stash and I want to learn to spin.

GeneticsGirl said...

I want to regain my knitting mojo. Hopefully the imminent arrival of my second child should help with that. Plus I want to get as much use out of my spinning wheel as I can before the baby arrives... Oh, and finish off some UFOs (hahaha).

ikkinlala said...

I want to finish or frog all my current (2011 or earlier) UFOs. I don't mind having several projects on the needles at once as long as I'm actively working on them, but the number of hibernating projects I have right now is making it hard to find the right needles for new ones.

Allison said...

I want to not bite off more than I can chew in terms of knitting for others, designing, and knitting in general. I have a real problem with trying to do too much, which takes all the joy out of knitting!

Chris said...

I have a whole list of crafty resolutions this year. Me! Who hardly every makes any. Too long to post here; it's on my blog. But in a nutshell, Socks, Snowflakes, and a bit of selfish sweater knitting. I guess I'm going to have an 'S' year for 2012.

I don't like to make resolutions--that way I don't disappoint myself when I don't follow them. /o\

I've resolved to do more knitting, sewing and quilting as a result of spending less time on the computer. I've already finished 2 pairs of shorts and done another inch on my Central Park Hoodie so I'm definitely starting well. Also reduced some of my computer stuff.

Mine is to actually use up all the yarn in my stash and go on a fiber diet all year... it will be hard but I can do it.

My goals for this year are many fold; 1: I joined a 12 fingerless-mitts kal, only this time I want to explore more new-to-me techniques, 2: I also joined a sister group on ravelry, 12 hats, again looking forward to trying out new techniques and styles. 3: To start and finish my first adult-sized fair isle cardigan and a hoodie for my daughter . . . gee, I best get knitting :)))

For the beginning of 2012 I want to knit more sweaters. I really don't have enough and there are so many beautiful patterns out there that I need to make!
As a more general resolution, I want to turn all those ideas and sketches I have in my notebook into real patterns.

Love knitting and love surprises :)

My goal is to do more actual knitting and less surfing of ravelry and knitting blogs. The fact that I'm posting here may indicate failure :^)

I intend to knit at least a couple rows each day, knit a pair of socks each month and to focus my knitting more on my immediate family and less gifts. I'm finding knitting to be at a premium with two little ones.

My resolution is to knit more yards than I buy. I'd also like to practice more colorwork (I'm not so great at holding the yarn in both hands!)

Martie Dawn said...

My goal is to do gift knitting well before the due date. No more pom poms the night before x-mas celebrations!

Tiphanie said...

My goal is to use more of my stash yarn and not buy any new yarn. That means knitting things in my queue which I previously bought yarn for and never got around to knitting.

2012 knitting resolutions:

finish the sweater for DH
knit the wristlets for Mom
knit something really cool for myself
get the fiber & yarn chaos organized and under control

Andrea said...

I know this is going to sound odd, but I can't wait to be reunited with my stash so I can knit all the things in my queue! There was a snafu with the military moving people so most of my stash is with a lot of my other stuff in the States (I'm in Germany right now). But we're moving back this year and I have sweaters to knit! I'm so excited!

Orli said...

I resolve to go through my stash and update it--most of it is in Ravelry but I know I've ordered yarn and left it in corners and never noted it!
I also want to not buy yarn unless I absolutely need to--I have over 24 miles of yarn already IN my Ravelry stash, so I'd like to bring that down to 15 or so :)

I share your goal - once again I did not take a single picture of the Yule presents I knitted, and now they're all sent to their new homes! I have plenty of old projects I haven't documented, either.

And I want to make a stranded cardigan for myself.

I spent a lot of time last year queue-ing beautiful knits that I want to make and this year I'm going to make them! (or at least start them) 2 sweaters, a skirt, multiple cold weather accessories, several socks, and an afghan for my husband.

Sgbooth88 said...

My knitting goal for this year is to actually knit more instead of sitting on ravelry oohing and ahing over all the professional looking finished objects that others can knit. I have to remind myself that I shouldn't get discouraged because I don't have the nicest yarns or "correct" knitting training. My goal is to love the projects that I create because I have taken nothing but yarn and created something out of it!!

Knitmish on Ravelry said...

Oh New Year's resolutions, especially knitting ones ;) I definitely have quite a few UFOs that I want to finish, but even more so I do not want to buy any more yarn. I know this probably sounds rediculous and like the worst resolution ever, but behold my fellow knitters and crocheters, you do not know what I have been through, lol. I just visited my family in Germany for Christmas, and I splured so much on yarn... Therefore, no more yarn, at least until the summer, hehe :)

Anonymous said...

My New Year's knitting resolution is to improve my knitting skills and try things that I was scared to try until now. For example to knit socks, lace and cables.
I already started with cables but they were very simple.
And yes, to knit a bit of my stash because I am moving abroad and I have no idea how I will move it!

KnittingViolets said...

I have two knitting resolutions this year: 1) Knit down the stash, and 2) learn more colorwork techniques.

My New Years Resolution is to color knit, learn how to spin and dye my own yarn. A lot to undergo I know but I am looking forward to every challenging minute!

I want to knit only from stash, finish some UFOs, and knit from the Twisted-Stitch Knitting book.

My resolution is to start knitting now for next Christmas!

Pretty much the same as everyone else... Knit some stash and finish those WIPs.

My goal is to knit something lace. I always go for mindless knitting, so this will be a new one for me.

Anonymous said...

I don't really do resolutions, the ones made just before the old year ends never really happen for me. But I've generally decided to downsize my stash, knit more responsibly (start something, enjoy the knit, finish, wear) and knit more gifts (which should also help to downsize the stash!).

Erin said...

My goals 1)complete a sweater for myself. I can complete sample knits and test knits, but my own sweaters languish half done. 2)knit from my handspun

Michael said...

Well, I only started knitting fairly late in 2011 (October, I think), so my knitting resolution is just to keep building upon my knitting skills. Most particularly, I want to learn the magic loop method (and knitting in the round in general).

twistedtexan said...

Let's see, resolutions for 2012. Knit sweaters from stash, and go back to taking better pictures of my projects for my Ravelry page. I've gotten lazy and have been using my iphone. Needless to say, the pictures are less than stellar. Happy New Year!

twistedsistah said...

My resolution is to whittle down the stash of beginner yarn I have and do more knitting for ME! I want to challenge myself to do something out of my comfort zone.

Suzanne said...

My knitting resolution is to reduce. I plan to knit out of my stash this year. I would like to see the bottom of my bins. I like your resolution as well. My pages are not fully up to speed but they are getting there. You knit beautiful pieces. I can't wait to snoop through your projects. Happy New Year!

JoAnna said...

I don't have any resolutions, but I would be stoked if I actually knit a sweater this year.

Sorry for all the trouble with the prizes! Thanks for pressing through any way. This blog is so much fun. I learn so much! I just bought a copy of Coastal Knits last week, and I would never have known about it without your blog.

I have been working off and on on the central park hoodie for 3 months shy of 2 years. I am going to finish it for 2012. It is for me, so it always gets the least amount of attention. The rest of my goal is to finish up anything else on my needles, before lining up other knits. I am excited!,

Christine Lima said...

My knitting resolution for 2012 is...learn to steek! It's one thing that I afraid to try, so I've never done it. Time to get brave and get out the scissors.

My goal this year is to knit more from my handspun stash, then I can justify spinning more!

Rachel R. said...

I have two knitting resolutions this year - one is to finally knit a sweater. I have the yarn quantity to do so - I just need to pick one (in the running are the Minimalist Cardigan and the February Lady Sweater) and just cast on and do it! The second is to learn how to use the drop spindle I got for Christmas LAST year!

Jess said...

I have two knitting resolutions:
1) Knit myself a sweater
2) Learn to knit socks

After that we'll see how far I get, LOL! One thing I'd for sure like to do is knit with more of my own hand dyed yarns, too. The problem is that all my favorites always sell out before I can, ha!

I came short of my goal last year but I felt stressed because I was pressuring myself to meet my goal. I knit more last year than I did the year before so...

My goal in 2012 is to make more handmade gifts but to knit for pleasure not obligation.

PS. I love mystery giveaways :-)

My goal for this year is to knit up more of my stash than I add to it... a descreasing yardage stash year. That said I would love to win more yarn to knit up and thanks for the opportunity!

My goal is to use up more stash...it's getting out of hand! The other think I want to accomplish is to knit more for myself...so I am committing to several sweaters...and of course, socks!!

One of my knitting goals for this year is to learn how to knit fair isle. I'm already signed up for a class the end of the month. I would also like to spin more of my own yarn AND learn how to dye. Oh, dyeing looks like so much fun!

2012 teaching and designing knitted items. 2011 started the ball rolling, and this year I think a business may be born.

Anonymous said...

I have TWO knitting new years resolutions. The first is to have one of my designs published...somewhere... beyond my own blog and ravelry page. My other resolution is to take better advantage of the sources that I already own. I honestly have plenty of knitting books that I haven't made a single pattern from!

Laura said...

My first goal is to learn stranded colorwork. My second goal is to reduce my stash. My stash isn't very big by stash standards, and nearly all of it has a designated project, but I need to actually do the knitting. So, no new yarn until at least the end of March. Shouldn't hurt too much since I have so many projects lined up!

Megan said...

My KGs (knitting goals) for 2012 are to start my Christmas knitting in January and to reduce the stash.

My knitting goals for the year are to use up at least half of my stash, and to finally knit myself a sweater. I've knit them for other people, but never myself!

My goal: knit my first sweater! And also, learn to crochet. :) (And to learn a new technique ... entrelac, maybe?)

I need to knit through some of my stash this year and post all my projects on Ravelry. I will not resolve to NOT buy yarn.. but I need to use a much greater portion of what I already have as compared to what I buy. ^_^ More going out and less coming in should (in theory) decrease the ever growing out of control stash.

2012 (knitting) Goals:

1) rip out the cardigan I will never finish and use the yarn to make one that I will wear

2) do Christmas knitting in the summer - I did it in 2011 and it worked out really well

3) use the book Knitter's Life List for inspiration to try at least three new things

I'm going to knit through my stash this year and not buy any more new yarn (after the package I ordered about half an hour ago arrives). Unless it's really awesome yarn and I really need it.

I have a few UFO item projects in the back of the closet. I want to either finish them or donate the yarn and the project as there must be something about it that made me stop working on it.

That's a fun contest! Thank you! On January 1st I finished my only WIP! Yé! I am getting reading for the Year in Color 2012 club! So I may say that my resolution is to knit all 6 projects since it costs quite a lot of money (!) and participate to the Ravelympics. I've also started Andrea's shawl but there is no resolution related to this one ;-) Happy New Year to you!

my goal is to use more from my stash (which would also help the pocket book) and make hubbys irish fishermans sweater in the murphy cabled design.

Last year my resolution was a stash diet. I didn't abstain completely, but I think I reduced pretty well. This year, I plan to shop mindfully.

My resolution is to finish the Sylvie coat that I started on last year for my birthday. It is almost my Birthday again, so far I have both front pieces.

I want to knit through my limited stash and knit a sweater that fits

mine is to finally knit myself a sweater! never done it. I always knit for others not myself.

My new year's resolution is to become more knowledgable and skilled in knitting. There are so many sweaters, socks, shawls, and baby/children's items I am yearning to make. No more envying what others have accomplished!

I want to knit 1 sock per month for a total of 6 pairs: 2 for mother's day, 1 for father's day, 2 for me, and 1 for my boyfriend. Yes, I'm giving 2 to myself and I feel good about that. I also joined the Tiny Owl Knits 12 in 2012 challenge on Ravelry.

I have some designs in my head that I need to get on paper and will do this year!

It's not really a resolution, but it's about time for me to do another overhaul of the stash - and hopefully get the results documented.

My goal is to learn how to correct my own knitting ops!

I would like to learn a few new techniques, such as fair isle.

By the end of This Year I'd like to be able to say that I knit more from my stash than I bought. I do not want to have a Yarn Stash Runaway like I have with fabric.
I hope to buy for specific projects and not so much just because the colors are 'pretty'.
De-Stash! De-Clutter !

I think the 2012 goal is to learn to do double knitting. It is something that has fascinated me for several years and it is time to tackle it!

I have a couple lingering UFOs from a couple years ago. It'd be nice to finish those. I also need to catch up where I left off after having a baby!

No resolutions. I prefer to call them goals - they seem more attainable that way. :)

My knitting goals this year is to knit down my stash. Also, I'd like to knit more gifts this year, as I am a very selfish knitter.

1. Finish UFO's
2. Use up stash

My first goal is to find a set of matching somethings to make as a wedding present for my sister and her fiance with some very nice yarn. After that, I want to eat through my stash and make room in my yarn cupboard.

I have 2
1. knit for myself (I always tend to knit for others)
2. only knit from stash for first 6 months

My resolution is to knit only from my stash and then only buy yarns with a project in mind.

I wouldn't call it a goal as much as a calling. I am making 2012 the year of the sock! I might knit something else but for the most part, socks. I am starting with the sock patterns in, The Knitter’s Book of Socks by Clara Parkes. The book has 20 patterns and I am going to knit them in order. I might skip a few of the color work patterns but who knows.
Happy New Year!!!!
Happy Knitting!

I have no option, I must finish the UFO's!! Drives me crazy with them all waving their strand of yarn at me and yelling "Finish me! Finish me!"

Cheryl said...

I have very lofty goals this year. (Ahem) I want to knit 12 sweaters, 12 socks, and finish my mom's shawl that I promised her. Somehow I've lost steam on that. But really, we'll see how it goes.

New Year, new attitude....knit when and where I want w/o feeling self conscious about it or listening to those who find it wierd.

My New Year's knitting resolution is to finish some UFOs, knit through some stash, and take better pics for my Rav page!

My goal this year is to try new yarns! I also would like to get back to charity knitting!
Happy and healthy New Year to you!

My resolution is a major stash reduction. I haven't been knitting much and I need to get started again.

Nanny Jean said...

I would like to finish a few like 3 projects half way done and start a few new projects I didn,t get started last year. Also use the yarn I have for the new projects.

Geraldine said...

I would really like my knitting to keep pace with my yarn purchases!

Kimberly B. said...

I'd like to make two more pairs of socks at least, so that I have enough pairs that I could go for an entire week only wearing socks I made myself. Aside from that, I'd like to be more organized with my yarn, use up some of the stash I've forgotten about, and maybe make my first pair of gloves (that's one knitted item I've always feared).
Thanks for the great giveaway; I can't wait to see what the prize is!

Elena Knits said...

My New Year Resolution are:

1. Making at least 2 sweaters instead of 1 last year.

2. Make my stash disappear before buying yarn without having a project in mind.

3. Don't leave unfinished projects lying around.

4. Get the hang of short rows.

Cheers

Mine is to finish projects in a much shorter period of time. For example I still working on a shawl I started last March. Granted I started more projects after that one and finished a couple of small things but I want my completion times to be less then a year.

karen alho said...

Oh dear! Just about all of the above! Shrink the stash. (Good, I just swatched for a new project!) Finish up those UF0's (Bad, I just swatched for a new project!) Get some of the promised-for-other-people items done ( It'll be summer before my daughter gets her second Japanese Wave mitten and twenty years before my grandaughter sees her Itty-Bitty Toys Giraffe - she's two and a half now.) Back to shrink the stash. I just received yesterday a BIG box of yarn from the U.S. Gorgeous Stuff I bought on my last trip. (Maybe it won't count if I don't actually put it with my stash but tuck it into bed with me to cuddle....?) Help!

I've been teaching myself how to knit since the summer of 2010. I've made so many fuzzy feet I've lost count. This year I want to learn some new skills so that I can branch out with my projects. On my list are the Shroom slouchy tuque by Lee Juvan, Cashmere fingerless gloves by Whit's Knits and the Tanzanite Shorts by Army of Knitters. Bring on the yarn!

I no longer make resolutions about anything. I know myself too well to play that game any more. If I really wanted to be a thin, organized, successful mega-millionaire, I would be! So I just accept me as I am, and don't pile on any pressure.

Eenae said...

I want to do more knitting for me and complete at least two sweaters for myself this year. I also want to do more knitting for my daughter. I tend to make lots of things to give away to other people's kids and it's not fair to her. She should be covered in handknits!

k2ntrish said...

I don't usually make resolutions. Having said that, however, I would like to finish all, and there are many, my UFOs. I'd love to knit down my stash as well.
