Happy Spring, everyone! We had a really beautiful past two days in our area. I know the weather's just teasing us, but it felt really good after the weird snow fall on early last Friday morning. Even with Spring in full swing, our temperatures in the Pacific Northwest tend to lend themselves well to sweaters and especially lovely cardis (my favorite).Today's guest is the brilliant Kate Oates, and she is, my friends, one of the masters of cabled knitted things from kids wear to accessories and full size womens' and mens' garments. Let's see… Gramps Cardigan, Rondo, Master Charles Sweater… that's just to show you a few. I've had the opportunity to knit quite a few of Kate's designs and they are some of my favorites. Honest to goodness, good pattern writing with beautiful pictures. She has recently released a pattern, Morning Coffee, and I really think Kate was channeling me while knitting this cardi. Right?!

When it is Spring I like to knit 'lighweight' & lacy items.
Although we are heading for Autumn/Fall I am in the process of finishing off my WIPs. I have soo many things I am itching to cast on and knit this Winter.
Thanks for the chance to win this great prize.
I havent been knitting long enough to change what I am knitting by seasons, I just continue on my list of things I want to knit, however I did through the grey sweater to the wayside.....and then, of course, it snowed here again!
I would knit tank tops.
As per usual I want to Knit All The Things... At the same time I'm trying to hold off on starting aything new and actually getting stuff off the needles.
Lovely :)
In springtime I would finish my WIPS's, and start some summer knitting project, with cotton :)
Normally in spring I'm knitting socks, mind you I'm doing that at the moment too and it's autumn over here!
Right now, I am in the process of moving. As such, I am in the process of cleaning and purging my personal possessions. It makes me hesitant to start something new.
I am trying to wrap up my WIPs so that I can start everything new and fresh in my new apartment.
I don't change what I am knitting or want to knit. It is always sunny here and the warmer weather does not start for a few more weeks (Colorado) so it doesn't really feel like spring yet. If my daffodils didn't immediately get covered with snow as soon as they bloomed, I might want to knit something other than some thick mittens.
What a divine giveaway! In the spring through the summer I typically knit accessories that I give as Christmas gifts.
I like lightweight items during the spring and into the summer. I've been dreaming of a lacy shawl lately!

During springtime I feel like I should be finishing all the warm things I have started for winter, but I know I'm just going to start something light and airy!
At the moment I'm dying to knit anything. I haven't done any knitting in 7 weeks, since I brought my newborn home from the hospital.
I usually do a few things:
1. accept that I am not going to finish that sweater I started and put it away!
2. finish as many accessory projects on the needles as possible
3. cast on for some kind of fairly mindless shawl knitting to take along outside wherever we go!
I'm feeling a little bit of both urges. I think I'm going to end up frogging some of my WIPs just to be finished with them and not have them hanging over my head. I'm also in design mode right now, so most of the things I want to CO for are my own designs. I really want to finally knit myself a sweater, though!!!

Right now I'm into knitting big lace projects with a few small accessories like fingerless mitts thrown in to mix it up
After a winter of wearing the same old sweaters, I'm craving a new cardigan with color! Thanks for the chance :-)
I would love to start a spring summer project, but I'm forcing myself to finish a sweater so i can wear it at least once before it gets too warm!
i love to knit brightly colored warm things, because it's still cold here and i'm usually starved for color.
what beautiful yarn! thanks for sharing!
janinga on ravelry.
I am moving away from hats and mittens to light cowls and shawls. I just wound two glorious balls of JulieSpins merino 435 for Life on Sundays by the designer who did Color Affection. My Rav name is janineny2001.
I tend to knit smaller and lighter pieces in spring and summer, because who wants a big thing of wool in their lap when it's 75 degrees out? :) However, this year, I am knitting a blanket for my brother, who is getting married in August, and that's going to be mostly wool. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
Spring is a really busy time of year in our household because it's track and softball season...so I'm always churning out lots of socks because they're so portable :)
I like to knit with bright colors...just gets me in the mood for spring!
I don't change my knitting habits with the seasons. I still knit sweaters during the summer because I'll want to wear them come fall. I definitely do some spring cleaning of my WIPs and yarn closet though!
knitwisepurlwise on ravelry
Pick me please! Gorgeous yarn and I would love to knit that sweater. :)
In the spring I definitely get the urge to cast on new projects... I tend towards socks rather than starting any new large projects, but really it's whatever strikes my fancy!
I think this spring I will be knitting smaller projects such as toys and socks... Would love to win this!
Rav ID: fabiknits
I feel I need to finish more WIPs! I have some lovely goodies in work, and some are even summery. I have just finished a lace beret, which is wating it's turn on the hat blocker. That yarn is so vivid! And not at all my usual selection, so winning would definitely take me out of my "comfort zone". Thanks for the offer!
I always feel like I need to finish my WIPs, but I really crave some lace knitting in the spring!
I'll want to knit *anything* lightweight - cardigans, pullovers, shawls, and occasionally socks.
I have several baby blankets to make this Spring, though I do feel the urge to start some new monsters :) I also start getting really excited about Maryland Sheep and Wool!
I'm making a skinny shawl out of yummy yarn in a spring color right now.
I had finished my UFOs that I really wanted to finish and cast on two scarves in fingering weight yarn in light, springy colors... hoping to have them done soon so I can wear them for spring in Montana. I knit all summer - usually hats and smaller projects - have more fingering in my stash so will likely work on a shawlette or socks this summer. Thanks for the chance to win! Stephanie (indigodogmt on Rav)
I look at what I have in cotton/linen/hemp/silk and blends for lightweight tees, sweaters, shrugs and wraps in lighter than my normal colors -- if nothing in my stash grabs me, I then go shopping... Also, since spring/summer tends to be baby season at my office, I'm still busy with acrylic and nylon blends to make baby blankets.
Love Kate's patterns! I haven't had much time to knit lately, so I've got 3 UFO's to finish. But, they are all winter-y projects. When I finish my semester in May, I really want to treat myself to some laceweight and knit a cardi I have my eye on.
It didn't occur to me until now, but I tend to go for toys in the spring. I guess it's because they are quick and adorable and all the better if there is a baby to gift to!
Honestly, I knit the same sorts of things all year round, regardless of the season. In fact, I tend to do my Christmas knitting (and shopping, for that matter) all year round, so right now I've got a couple of scarves on the needles and soon will cast on some knitted Christmas ball ornaments. I try to never have more than two WIPs at a time - forces me to finish the less interesting knits. My cross stitch WIPs, on the other hand...
I have 3 projects to finish and then I can work on spring knitting-So much I want to make this year
Spring makes me want to switch gears with color! No more dark sweaters and scarves. Instead, I want to cast on colorful socks, lightweight cardis and pretty baby things.
Although, I really really should power through that afghan before it gets too hot to sit around with an afghan in my lap, so some spring cleaning is in order as well.
Love the interview and thank you for the generous giveaway!
Right now I'm just desperately trying to finish off a couple of sweaters while I can still wear them!
I get major startitis in the spring time! I start craving cardigans and lacy shawls and it always seems like a really good idea to start socks because everyone knows those are super quick knits and I should be able to whip them out for everyone on my holiday list if I start now....
I love CO in the spring. And I love lace shawls for this time of year. :-)
Right now, I think I am in clean-the-whole house mode and my knitting is slooow-going right now. Although I do have 2 springy projects on the needles right now, they only get worked on a couple days a week.
I love to knit light, airy things like lacy shawls & scarves. I leave my heavy wool colorwork projects until the fall.
I just finished a WIP yesterday. I was determined to finish it before it got warm so I could wear it. Tada, it snowed yesterday. I'm ready for the warmth, though, and I've been looking at lacy tops to knit.
Spring around here means there's suddenly a lot of baby knitting to do (although they're not due until summer) so that's definitely reminding me of renewal! But while I wait to see what genders this latest crop are, I've cast on for a spring green shawl
In spring I start to work on a lot of shawls, in bright colors. They're really quite wearable even in summer.
I always want to knit some pretty lace shawls!
I don't really have a go to thing that I knit in spring. I do tend to gravitate toward cheerful greens, pinks, and even some yellow yarns. And I am more likely to knit baby stuff or lightweight scarves and sweaters.
I really want to finish up some WIP's in the spirit of spring cleaning but I also want to cast on some sweaters. The warm weather of Spring doesn't stop me from wanting to knit some cool weather items :-)
Thanks for the chance to win an awesome prize!

Forever casting on! Even more so with the cheerfulness of spring. I want to knit more pastel-y stuff tho.
I use the spring to finish up some winter WIPs and work on Christmas gifts, so that I can use prime knitting time (ie: fall) to knit selfishly.
I've been in clean up mode and finished 4 projects this past weekend. Now I'm on to new socks but then I knit them EVERY season.
I'm yearning to cast on something to wrap up in at our summer back yar fires. Hopefully I will come across something during my Spring Stash Audit! Perhaps just a little lacy shoulder wrap.
Something lace weight and in a bright color!
I'm all about using up my scraps right now. I just made a lovely scrap shawl for my daughter and it turned out so cheerful!
Just love Kate Oates, one of my faves!
Every spring, I knit something for the county fair! Haven't decided on this year's pattern yet.
I crave to knit light cardi's in the spring. Something you can throw on over a tank in the evening to keep the chill off.
Usually at this time of year I'm trying to finish a winter sweater that I wanted to wear this year but will end up wearing next year!!!
I love knitting lightweight sweaters or vests. Usually with short sleeves or no sleeves at all. Less knitting.
In spring I tend to get a bad case of start-itis, with an inclination for brighter colors, small projects like socks, or lightweight or lacy projects.
Sadly it's not really spring yet here in Wisconsin - we're just starting to see mud around the edges of the snow.
Rav - somesylvie
I suddenly want to knit everything out of cotton!
Definitely small projects, like building up the baby-hat gift supply, or socks!
I'm knitting lace--but craving bright colors. I have several skeins of super brights sitting on the table in front of the sofa where I knit in the evening. Trying to decide what they want to bedome . . .
I want to finish my wip's and start a summer shawl.
This is always a sticking time for me. I'm not super motivated to finish up lingering WIPs, but inspiration isn't popping up right and left like it did in January. This gorgeous may be just the kickstart I need!
I LOVE the Gramps cardigan--my little man has one! :)
In the spring I turn to baby knitting! I have multiple little sweaters in my queue, and possibly also a blanket.
living in So Calif what I knit never changes, but since I have the goal to make my stash go away (it does keep growing) I use Ravelry groups with KAL and CAL to get inspired and stay on course.
love Lorna yarns

I am learning how to knit this spring. So I am trying to FO all of my WIP crochet projects. This way I can practice without dreaming about my unfinished projects. I really want to learn how to knit a sweater or cardigan.
At this point Spring Cleaning would look like an episode of Hoarders around here. Just last night I brought in another curbside treasure, a nightstand to be refinished, which joined the desk, bench and bookcases waiting for similar treatment. The book stack needs to be culled at least in half, so I can get to the bookcases to refinish them. The only stash that needs enhancement is yarn. Thanks for all the great giveaways.
I want to knit happy, stripy, garter-stitch shawls! But instead I'm slogging through some old WIPs. :) Oh well - I might let myself cast on a happy, stripy, garter-stitch shawl for Easter. :)
I don't think the weather affects my choices that much. I want to knit everything all the time!
I love the photo with the red sweater.

Spring is all about finishing up those WIPS so that I can knit some linen for summer! Love this new pattern and the yarn, too!

I'm using my spring knitting time to try and finish up a load of WIPs before treating myself to some lace knitting.
I would like to finish up a few UFO's before I cast on for a nice lacey shawl.
Thanks for this great giveaway!
Gorgeous yarn! I don't think my knitting actually changes that much over the course of the year. I live in Northern California, and I feel like I need thick sweaters here pretty much year round -- our summer nights are so chilly and damp!
Oddly enough, during the warm weather i just want to knit big hot lace blankets... i blame it on the air conditioner.
Holy Moley! That yarn is gorgeous and I'm drooling over it.
I love to knit light tank tops, or cap sleeved tops to wear in the summer. There is still 2 feet of snow in my yard here, so it's still a ways off, but I'm getting Spring fever bad. I like to choose tops that could be worn with a long sleeved shirt under them since it seems to be winter here in northern MN for 9 months out of the year. I suppose this is why I knit warm cozy things??
thank you for the giveaway! I'll be crossing my fingers for that yarn until the winner is chosen!! :)
~Nancy
I would love to start on a lace shawl (have the yarn, the pattern, and the beads), but I really need to finish my husband's sweater and a hat for his dad first...
One of these days I'll start it!
I start craving bright colors and lighter weight projects. While it's a bit warmer, realistically, the weather will be predominantly gray in Oregon until around the 4th of July, so cheerful colors are really needed. I have some lovely spring green Blue Moon Socks That Rock that I'm planning shawlette out of right now, but I would be thrilled to have my plans derailed by that lovely pink/purple yarn!
Not much is different for me in Spring with knitting; all depends. I'm test knitting and also in a shawl KAL this Spring.
There are always all sorts of projects I can't wait to get started on.
I love the sweater in the photo!
StaceyKnitsIt
I find myself knitting shawls a lot in the spring. So light and airy!
I think in the Spring I tend to want to knit one more sweater - something light that I can wear until it really warms up and/or will be nice for Fall. Now, I don't always actually DO that...but I think about it! :)
neneni on Ravelry
I don't necessarily change what I'm working on, but I definitely lean towards lighter brighter colors in the spring. Anything to bring some cheer after a long, cold winter!
I love to knit and have many projects all going at the same time. I love spring colors but tend to think ahead, I am dancing around the idea to knit for fall right now. Love the colors of this giveaway! knitterutah on ravelry or castlecountrystitchery on blogspot
I always feel inspired during the spring to knit socks, and lightweight scarves. It makes me feel like knitting truly is a year-round activity, when many of my friends are stopping until it gets cold again!

I crave to knit something bright and cheerful as I am so fed up of the cold winter and am ready for the summer.

What a lovely pattern! I have a few of Kate's patterns and they are fabulous. I am currently in spring cleaning mode trying to finish up socks and then I want to cast on something in a springy shade. I realized this morning that most of my wardrobe is black, white, and grey. Great for coordinating but not a lot of fun. I need some color!

So pretty! Despite the fact that spring is fast approaching I'm torn between continuing to knit sweater after sweater and cleaning out old projects. Just want to knit it all!
During the majority of the year, I love wool, and cotton sort of annoys me. But when May comes around, I love casting on a lace cardi in some cotton blend. By the time we make it to August, then I'm ready to think about wool sweaters for the fall.
That's beautiful yarn!
I'm a big fan of accessories...right now I am working on a spring cardigan in a vibrant green color....cleaning, what's cleaning? I have been working on WIPs, but that is helped by Nerd Wars and the WIP challenge..
My spring cast on this year was an Apres Surf Hoody (done as a cardigan) in Brown Sheep Cotton Fine, though with summer almost over (in NZ) I'm not sure how much further it will get towards finishing before next spring!
Since I also live in the Pacific NW, I'm happy knitting just about anything in the spring. Right now I'm motivated to get an early start on Christmas gifts, so have just finished a pair of fingerless mitts with at least two more pair to go, and have a hat in progress.
I want to knit anything I can.
I like knitting with bright springy colors! Fun shawls and stuffed animals.
I crave to be a much better knitter because there are many things I would love to be working on right now. So I am motivated to practice, practice, practice.
Spring arrives and I am ready to knit small projects - shawls, scarves, and socks (to get ready for winter)

In springtime I get the urge to switch from knitting to crochet. It doesn't usually last long!
I also seem to like to cast on a big knitted project in January or February then I persevere with it through spring for as long as possible before hibernating it for the summer.
In Spring, I want to start working on short sleeve sweaters and vests. I also start lusting after lighter, brighter colors.

At this point I am trying to finish up a few winter projects. Unfortunately the weather is cooperating. I am going to be switching over to socks and more shawls. Though I have a few requests for scarves that I can work on as the weather gets nicer.
Awesome giveaway, what gorgeous yarn! Right now (and it seems like an almost regular thing these days) I'm in the spring cleaning mode - I want to par down my belongings and not have so much mental and physical clutter!
I am trying to finish all of my WIPs! Great giveaway!

I am looking forward to knitting one of the beautiful cardi patterns in botanical knits. Thanks for the chance win!
I am in the mood to knit up a dress! I have a bunch I'm looking at, but they all look perfect for spring. :)
I feel like knitting a light sweater. Forget about all the WIPs and UFOs....
I love to knit socks so I'm digging for some sock yarn from THE DEEP STASH. It feels like a good time to do some spring yarn purging.
Spring is my time for gift knitting. I have been fortunate that my children have had wonderful, smart, compassionate teachers who really understand my kids. There's nothing I enjoy more than creating a lovely versatile shawl to gift as an end-of-school-year gift. Some get modern squishy garter shawls, others get traditional lace. Depends on their personality. Each one a labor of love!
I like small portable projects like socks. Thanks!
It is still winter here in Canada and I started a bulky pullover, with another one right behind that should be fine for April. After that I would like to get started on a linen lace scarf in a mint shade and a light lace cardigan of some kind. Plus a cotton jacket that can be worn throughout the summer. And a cotton cowl with a mixture of worsted and lace weights, still in cotton. And socks... Phew a lot of projects before the nice weather that should be here in May...
I love knitting socks on my deck in the morning sunlight. Perfect thing to do in the spring! Thanks for the giveaway!
I LOVE crocheting! If I get this yarn, it will be put to great use! Thanks! God Bless
I think like most knitters, we aim for projects that are a lot lighter. As for WIPs, I have more now than in mid-winter..ohwell, they will all get finished in due time!
I'm working on a raspberry-colored shawl right now .... Something bright and cheery! And I really want to cast on another project or two, maybe three.
Good question! I knit on whatever my current project is, no matter what season.

I am knitting a silk lace stole and swatching for a lightweight vest to wear over a cami this Spring.
Every spring I feel this urge to cast on a bunch of new lighter projects, but also a need to go through and wrap up some of the WIPs that I have sitting around. It's like this last push to get as much knitting done before my knitting time is seriously cut by other outside tasks.
I'm in Spring Cleaning mode. I'm trying to assess what's in my stash that I'll never use and can get rid of in order to make room for all the yarn I'm tempted to buy!

Spring is simple socks for (theoretically) travelling time, planes, airports, etc. that are always part of my spring. This year it's also a lot of baby bits and pieces. There are sroutlings and grand-sproutlings popping up all over the place this spring. Both mine (grand)and my friends', both young and old.
BTW, The color of that yarn is stunning!
I am seriously gravitating towards green yarn these days! I keep thinking of projects to use for my green yarns, so I am definitely in cast-on mode!
Once again, you have lovely things to give away. There's going to be a bumper crop of babies this year and the Lorna's laces would make a lovely baby sweater.
Spring time always brings a flurry of new project ideas for me. We are still in the throes of changing weather here, so I am still looking for fast knit "throw on and go" sweater projects, and I always look forward to Spring mystery KAL's from my favorite designers.
But birds chirping and blossoms popping open remind me that there is warmer weather ahead, and that spurns my desire to knit lighter weight sweaters -like this one!- and starts me thinking about knitting for Summer weather.
Wonderful sweaters like this one make me glad that we have cooler springs where I live.
Although I knit lace all year, bright colors that reflect the changing landscape and cables twisting and growing are my favorite projects to knit in the spring because they remind me of the brighter days ahead.
Fabulous pattern, great yarn BTW.
I think I am craving to knit myself up a nice light weight cardigan or pullover. I have yet to knit myself something large like this and think it is about time I tackled it!
I am slowly finishing all my WIPS. Getting there, though. I don't Spring clean but did clear out my work room recently. I love the colour of the yarn that is on offer. Very me!!
I live in the deep south, so spring knitting usually means tops and accessories knit in cotton or bamboo.
I want to make baby stuff because babies and popping out everywhere around me!
I feel like finishing wips, using stash and for some reason knitting hats and cowls for wintertime. but it is actually very cold for this time of the year in europe, so maybe that will change once it feels like spring

I have this incredible urge to knit a shawl, and to finish up any sweater projects. There are 2 one is Joji Locatelli's Pole, I am doing the sleeves and I have sleeveitus, and a little girl's sweater which though knit to scale will fit her 3 years from now.
What gorgeous yarn and a very nice pattern. Thank you for the chance.
Lovely! I'm trying to finish up a sweater, but I usually end up knitting socks in the spring. :)
Spring time - time to spring at a new design... Or several! I yearn to knit all vibrant coloured yarns now.
What a beautiful cardigan! Thanks for this interview!

I crave knitting shawlettes, cowls and berets in lace patterns whenever Spring rolls around. It also gives me a chance to break out some fabulous DK and sport weight cotton and bamboo yarns. I'm currently working on a Spring collection as we speak and am so excited the season is upon us!
Since I live in Michigan and its still snowing, I'm still on sweater knitting mode! Hehe I think I might knit a very lacy shawl when the weather warms up.

I go into shawl and sock mode in the spring. Thin yarn and bright colors, yay!
I tend to wear darker colors although I love bright colors, and feel I need to knit myself something bright. I do have some WIP's that are needing to get finished or frogged, so decisions need to be made soon!
I am wanting to work on making the perfect fitting cardigan because I'm always wearing sweaters that just don't fit correctly.
Ooooh so pretty! I get inspired to start new projects... usually beach cover up, tanks, or a big sweater for nights on the beach. Occasionally i will think about the coming seasons and plan a shawl or something for moms bday.
Love this yarn!

I like to try and finish some of my WIPs, but then I get carried away with all the new pretty things, especially shawls.
When it is springtime is ironically when I crave knitting winter items. I feel like I should get a headstart on things that I'll need to stay warm (and since I live in Wisconsin it's pretty much winter most of the year anyway). Also, since I'm a slow knitter starting in spring is the only way I'd be able to get any christmas presents done.
Ironically, in the spring, I crave sweaters...not the useful ones for the season, but the heavy, wrap-you-in-warmth ones. And I'd cast on a pile of them if I had the chance. The bigger irony is I live in TX, where we're already in full "spring" :)

Right now I am knitting some comfy pants for my 4 month old. Resisting the urge to knit heavy wool sweaters currently....we will see how long that lasts!
I am an autumn person, so I keep knitting cosy sweaters... But I'm thinking about socks, shawlas or light cardigans.
I am dreaming of lightweight cardigans maybe with some lace accents. And it's never too soon to start planning for gift knitting.
Thanks again for another wonderful giveaway.

In the springtime I try to finish up FOs, but the number of babies coming and birthdays keep me CO as well. Plan to organize my stash as well.
This yarn is to die for!!
I may start on a blanket, I like the idea of knitting something mindless and big that can keep me warm when I am outside knitting on a summers night.

I want to knit fingering and lace weight cardigans for me!... but i am stuck knitting knee high socks and blankets for others... others that i love and deserve the knitting, but still... others... not me. I want to be selfish for spring!
I want to knit a light weight cardigan this spring. I"m not in a cleaning moo-I'm in a gardening mood.Just moved to a warmer climate and can't wait to start a veg/herb garden and plant flowers around my house.
I want to knit pastel lace, but I've also got the cleaning bug, so I'm stash-diving!
Spring is when I start thinking about knitting for charity (so I can have a nice donation by December!). But I also like to wip dive and maybe start something new too - like a pretty shawlette.
Spring always makes me want to cast on shawls and lightwight items. But I'm also finishing up all my WIPs from over the winter and cleaning up/organizing my stash for the next seasons heavyweight projects. As long as I have needles clicking, I'm pretty happy year-round, regardless of the project. ;)
I love the colors of those yarns:). I often knit more in the summer because we travel, and I have more time. I don't work with wools though as we live in Phoenix. I will probably take on a shawl or sweater, and then some toys. I love having a quick project where I see results.

Beautiful yarn love the color. I would knit a shawl or sweater. I have to see how the color go with my skin. I'm working on socks and more socks. shawls and summer cotton beanies.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh how I love your gift. I have never won a gift such as this and am very excited that I might have the chance! Right now I am finishing a cashmere scarf for my daugther in law that I promised her 2 xmas' ago. My mom became ill and I moved in with her to care for her 24/7. Next I have all kinds of projects I would like to do for my family (scarf for granddaughter, hat and scarf for son, bath towels for grandkids with matching soap with pics on them). I will stop there because I if get these done it will be a miracle. Your yarn would be perfect for the scarf project.
Just learned a new cable pattern so I'm planning to work on a sweater next.
Never quite sure what to knit as the weather gets warmer; think it will be shawls and socks this year, or other small things.
