meet Karel (pronounced Carl, it's Czech) and your Malabrigo Twist!
The winner of last week's Cascade Eco Alpaca is Jess who posted on the 17th saying, "I have yet to knit a garment!" Well, the Eco Alpaca's not enough to knit a garment, but it sure is soft! Jess, please get a hold of me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your mailing address, and remember we would love a picture of the yarn in your possession once it arrives safely at your home.
Well, well, well.... we are onto our 4th giveaway already! Wow! That's flown by! I hope everyone is enjoying the blog so far. I have a lot of great stuff coming up. I have 3 guest designers that have graciously accepted my request of doing an interview with them, while hosting one of their items/patterns as a giveaway. You're gonna love the Q's and A's. They're fun, relevant, and it'll kind of let us into the secret lives of designers. Just kidding!
I also wanted to mention that, yes, I have seen the comments and read everyone of them. No, I can't mail my brother; unfortunately, he still needs to finish high-school. I know, he looks more mature - in a good way. Also, thank you for the compliments of how handsome my husband is. That definitely made his week!! He kept grinning like a school boy. And lastly, I've heard your requests to model the yarn myself, and I promise I'm working upto that. I really hate my picture taken, but I will get over it - just for all of you, soon. Now, you have something to look forward to. Hahaha!
This week my handsome father is modeling the yarn. I asked him to model the yarn for me on Friday and he kept frowning at me and I thought, "This ain't happening!" But, would you believe, he came back on Saturday morning - clean shaven and dressed up, ready for his photo shoot. We had a beautiful day here, which was great and he was really good at modeling the yarn. Hope everyone likes the pictures!!
This week's featured yarn is the NEW Malabrigo Twist. I have 2 skeins of it to giveaway, again! I just love Malabrigo Worsted and I have heard so many wonderful things about this new yarn called Twist. This yarn is 100% baby merino wool and boy is it soft!! There's approximately 150 yds per skein and it's colorway 616 Plena. If you have not seen this color in person, you will love it when you do! It's this beautiful combination of rich royal blues and purples with dark navy blue running into light blue and turquoises that turn into this really muted straw yellow brown. It's a little hard to describe to say the least and the pictures don't do it justice, but none the less, there it is.
This week I've decided to do the giveaway a little differently. I'm posting a little early, hehehe, tricky me! Also, I'm extending the comment time until Sunday at midnight. That way folks can actually comment and enter the giveaways up through the end of the week. On with the show...
I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:
1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. I wanted to add a little more to this line and say that if you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address, that will work. I will send it to them and then they can forward it on to you. See house rules for further details.
2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 2/28/2010, telling us who you have invited to the blog. I would like to grow this community a little further and in order to do that, I need your help. I know your saying to yourself, but if I invite a friend... it'll be less of a chance to win. True; however, if this blog can continue to grow, I can host bigger and more winner giveaways (for instance 2 or 3 winners a week instead of just 1). Make sense? So, I would like you to invite one very nice knitting friend of yours to the blog and then comment who you invited (i.e. Hi, Ve! I just got together with my nice knitting friend this week for coffee. Her name is Pavla and I invited her to your blog on Tuesday.) You get the idea! Now, I'm going to trust that you invite a real friend, because your imaginary one won't work. Sorry. Just give your friend the domain name yarnonthehouse.com and let's see what happens! Hopefully, your friends like the blog as much as you do and we can double in size this week. That would be fun!
3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.
Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.
Sincerely,
Ve

I just posted a link on my Facebook page since I have a lot of knitting friends there. :)
The only knitting friends I have are on twitter and they already know about your blog. I could tell my mom (she crochets) about it but then I'd have to explain what a blog is and then how to turn on the computer and get on this new fangled internet. So I'm going to spare my sanity and just hope my lack of irl knitting friends isn't held against me :-)
By the way I almost ordered this exact colorway when I ordered my first malabrigo purchase (which will hopefully arrive this week.
Thank you for the chance to win...hope I'm the lucky one to win this beautiful yarn.
Melanie
I follow on Twitter , no other knitting friends there but will give the blog to Melodee , my knitting friend. Unfortunatly she is in Jamaica this week!! Too bad!! Harrisj831@ gmail, daleknits on ravelry
I have passed on your blog info to two wonderful knitters in my life that share my name. Ann & Annie. Annie is a brillant knitter who has an exordinary talent to finish what she starts. A sometimes rare thing in the knitting world.
Then there's Ann, who I met because of Twitter. We realize everyday that we have more in common. She is one of the most creative knitters I know and does amazing things with yarn and color. Although she rarely finishes things.
Well those are the knitters i've passed along your blog to.
I'll keep reading. Thanks. Ann in Philadelphia
Oh, man, I want that yarn!!!
I tweeted about this; I have several knitting/crocheting contacts there. They'll never be able to resist my advertisement for "FREE MALABRIGO" ha ha!

How cute is your dad!! Tell him I'm sorry about the hockey game. Anyhoo, I told my friend Christine about the blog and she follows you on Twitter now too!
Keep on rockin' it, Ve.
What a great blog and beautiful yarn.
I followed the link that Cindy posted and I did the same as Cindy and posted the link on my Facebook page - so all my knitting friends have been informed.

Oh so pretty. I would love it if you were mine. I look forward to hearing from you.
All my friends already know about your blog, and given that you got 100 entries this time, it is growing quickly. I will try telling my friend Ellen about it. She is about the only one I can think of who knits but doesn't know about the blog.
Well, I don't have any IRL knitting or crocheting friends (sad, I know) so I hope it counts that I retweet your tweets on Twitter (like this). Twitter is where I have met most of my knitting "friends." :)
Thanks again for the fun giveaways!
I think our entire knitting group has entered, but I will make sure that everyone is aware that there is a new contest up.
And since my name is the female version of Karel, I'm feeling lucky. Very lucky!
I invited my friend Benzie who is a knitter to visit your website. Tell your dad he looks very professional in his modeling debut.
Good Morning,
I just invited my friend Jessica, she is new at knitting as well.
~ Danel
I just posted on my Twitter profile! (mamalizknits) ... my online bud GumbyGooGoo initially sent me over here after she won. Fun concept!
I shared with all my twitter friends last night.
Oh, your dad is such a sweetheart to be such a good sport! And so handsome, I see where your brother gets his rakish good looks from!
I have invited a dear old friend of mine who I keep in touch with through fb, I know she is going to love this blog, her name is Myra.
Oh, and the yarn is divine, being quite the purple fan, this is right up my alley!
I just did Tweeted about the giveaway and what a great blog it is too. Thank your husband again for getting back to me about the blog, he was helpful and I appreciate it.
Now to the Mal, must you continue to torture the girl without a LYS with Mal????
I tweeted, plus plan on putting your blog in my weekly "Blogs/Sites I'm Eyeballin' this week" post. And I'm giving your blog a "thumbs up" rating on StumbleUpon. I love love love Malabrigo!
I found your blog via Yarnsandmusings! :)
I have a lovely knitting friend who is snowed in with no power-so knitting is imperative! Her name is Eryn and she is a pro at top down sweaters. Particularly great as she has 2 little girls. I have forwarded this to her. I LOVE Malagrigio!
Maven showed me via Twitter. Thanks Maven! Posting to my Twitter & FaceBook.
Gumbygoogoo turned me on to your blog. I sent Christy a 'free yarn' email this morning.
Crossing my fingers for some Twist!
A friend from high school in Spain sent me your link on my facebook. I just sent a message out to my Rav friends. :) What a wonderful chance for all of us knitters! Thank you! (Sol2sombra on ravelry)
I saw a link on Twitter, so I retweeted it along to my Twitter friends.
I posted a link on facebook too since most of my "knitting" friends are already following your blog. I figured any friends that I have that knit in secret will at least click the link!
I will tell my mother about your blog, and hopefully she will start coming here too. She has only used box store yarns, and I am trying to encourage her to try LYS and the internet to learn about the beautiful and wonderful yarns out there. If we should happen to win, here would be her big chance! She won't let me buy her nicer yarn, but I hope she would take some she won.
Thanks!
Malabrigo is so soft and pretty.
I've added it to my blog links area on my blog. I know that others check them out by what Feedjit tells me. ;-)
Oh, and I did see both Cindy's and Barbara's blurbs on Facebook. LOL
Sharing with some Ravelry friends, thanks!
I invited my friend Michelle from Ravelry. I'm sure she'll be over as soon as she reads her mail. Free yarn does that!
Heard about this on Ravelry from Heather! :o)
Heather invited me (hi heather! hi 'lista!) and I have invited Kiltman....
y
I don't have any in-person knitting friends *sniff, sob*, but hopefully it will be all right to enter anyway.
thanks for all these awesome giveaways!
Carla reminded me to enter - thanks friend! I'll pass on the good word.
And Jersey just told me too!
I don't have any IRL friends who knit, sadly. But I'll mention you on Ravelry! (And I totally feel like a dirty old lady for admiring your cute little brother! I'm 33 and thought him to be in his mid-20's!!)
Hi Ve,
I can taste that Malabrigo Twist!
This is fun because I really am trying to get my daughter more involved with the knitting & spinning comminity, and this is a REAL reason to give her a big invite to YOUR blog :)
Thank-you, Thank-you,
Debbie & daughter Staci
What beautiful yarn! I am posting the link to your blog on my facebook page.
Love the yarn!!!! I'm a new knitterm but I think I could do it justice, lol. I got your blog addy from Lynn Parks on my Facebook page.
I just told just about everyone I know by posting it on my facebook page!
This yarn looks heavenly! I've passed on your Blog to my friend Shelly, she's the gal who got me into knitting. (She's paying me back for getting her into quilting, hee hee!) I'm really enjoying knitting, it's so much fun... even more fun when you have gorgeous yarn to knit with. :)
I found out from Jersey and will pass it along to someone else in our group. I don't think EJ entered yet. I'll make sure she knows.
Elaine sent me. Who is left to tell? It looks like Sylvia hasn't entered yet.
Love the colors of that yarn, it looks so pretty. I ussually knit for my daughters but I would be tempted to make something for myself from that. And I am new to your blog, got the link from my friend Lynn's facebook page.
I just want to say your dad is a very handsome gentleman - and very sweet to model yarn for his daughter!
I'll tell the ladies at my knitting lunch group tomorrow. Several of them are already Ravelry-philes and I'm sure have made their way over here, but I'll let the others know too :)

Oh please enter me! I found out about the contest from EJ and will let someone else know - maybe Rachel O, if she hasn't already entered.
I passed along this blog's info to my friend Lysandra, who crochets.
I am here because of Cat! I have invited my mom, Lillian! We both learned to crochet from my Grandmother, and mom loves to look at pretty yarn as much as I do!
I will tell some friends on Ravelry, someone will enter this one......
Lots of my friends are knitters. Some are just learning or are still somewhat amateur, like me, but some are a lot better than me. (One of my good friends even owns our best local yarn store where I get all of my Malabrigo.) I posted a link Yarn on the House on Facebook last week, and it got lots of good comments. Don't know who has started reading regularly, but lots of my knitting friends took a look (especially since I mentioned the giveaways!)
Wow. I can see where your brother got his being-handsome-ness! Your dad's pretty handsome too!
I'm sharing your blog with my girlfriend, who is a newly rejuvenated knitter and already a devoted Malabrigo fan. She just finished some armwarmers in the Worsted that she wears constantly, even in the 50-degree weather we've been having.
congrats jess! now, go pick up some sticks and knit, grin!
Love that colorway! Nice modeling dad... the things we do for our kids, eh?
I've told my knitting group about your blog. So hopefully that's 5 more readers for you. Beautiful choice this week:)
I've told my friend Bob. He really is a fantastic knitter, and I know he loves Malabrigo (as do I)! Thanks!

Thanks again for doing this!! I have posted this on twitter & put a link on my blog, so hopefully LOTS of people are seeing it!! How sweet of your dad to pose for you this week! (:

What a great blog and fun givaways. I let Kimber know so she can let her knitting friends know and so on!

I have yet to put my hands on any Malabrigo. No one in town carries it and I would really like to touch it before I buy it, isn't that half the fun?? Thanks for doing this and what a great blog!
I want to win so baaaadly!!!
I told my 2 knitting buddies last week about your blog but I'll remind them again now ;)
The Malabrigo looks lovely (and your Dad is pretty good-looking, as well)! I'd like to see Twist in person. I have re-tweeted and am posting on my FB.
Thanks for having these give-aways. Fun!
passed on your blog to a knitting friend at work. She's never knitted with Malabrigo! Thanks for the chance to win, would make a lovely b-day present!

Hi!! I am inviting my friends Sarah, Kelly, and all my other Facebook friends that knit to your blog today!!!!!
Ashley
I found a link to you in a facebook post from a friend. I shared your blog (and a free chance at some spiffy yarn) with my knitting friend Tarnah. My email address is BSMelson@gmail.com
I found a link to you on Ravelry. Lucky me, because I love to knit malabrigo. It is so lovely for my hands to feel as I knit. I recommended your link to Vickie, my knitting buddy. She has a stash that astound me. I am still in the small stash category.
I have invited my best friend in life an knitting, Michelle, to your blog.
I invited two friends from my Sunday group...Kimberly and Ann to join you.
Very nice! The yarn's not bad either! ;-)
I don't have any knitting friends at all. :( I don't have a LYS anywhere near me and the only friend who showed any interest in learning to knit attempted to use Red Heart SS on size 4 needles and got all frustrated and now refuses to let me show her how it's really done. Anyway, the yarn is gorgeous and the dad's not too bad, either!
That's some beautiful yarn. That's cute that your dad posed for you!
Thank you for this fun blog too. It's a good way for us broke students to get some nice yarn.

I'm tweeting about your blog since all my followers (other than my husband) are knitters.
Sylvia sent me (although I probably would have come looking anyway). I'll let the group at work know
Rachel O just caught me in the ladies room and work and told me to go enter NOW. So here I am (with freshly washed hands) entering.
I'm the last in our knitting group to enter - not sure who to tell. I'll keep an open mind and try to suck some new knitters in.
Oh yeah, purple sent me.

Hi V- I have invited my mom, jenny, to your blog site. Hopefully she will make to it since she isn't great with the computer. Thanks for the great giveaways!-

I've never knit anything before, but my wife Alison is just starting and made her first scarf. This could be a great little gift for her as we are expecting our first child soon. Love you blog. Very FUN!
I posted to facebook, but honestly have zero knitting friends that I mention this to and feel confident that they would respond. I did send your link to some of my ravelry friends, so let's see if anyone comments!
I've always wanted to try Malabrigo! Or at least touch a little bit of it to see what the fuss is all about. I told my MIL about the site, who is a crocheter and a wonderful person. :) Thanks for the fun contests and dreams of new yarn!
Handsome Dad and gorgeous yarn! I have passed on a link to your blog to my daughter Chandra to increase the chance that I will at least be able to pet this yarn.

Hello! I just found your blog via the Tot Toppers thread at Ravelry and will share your blog with more friends, too!
Hi, Ve,
