2.21.2010

meet Karel (pronounced Carl, it's Czech) and your Malabrigo Twist!

The winner of last week's Cascade Eco Alpaca is Jess who posted on the 17th saying, "I have yet to knit a garment!" Well, the Eco Alpaca's not enough to knit a garment, but it sure is soft! Jess, please get a hold of me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your mailing address, and remember we would love a picture of the yarn in your possession once it arrives safely at your home.

Well, well, well.... we are onto our 4th giveaway already! Wow! That's flown by! I hope everyone is enjoying the blog so far. I have a lot of great stuff coming up. I have 3 guest designers that have graciously accepted my request of doing an interview with them, while hosting one of their items/patterns as a giveaway. You're gonna love the Q's and A's. They're fun, relevant, and it'll kind of let us into the secret lives of designers. Just kidding!

I also wanted to mention that, yes, I have seen the comments and read everyone of them. No, I can't mail my brother; unfortunately, he still needs to finish high-school. I know, he looks more mature - in a good way. Also, thank you for the compliments of how handsome my husband is. That definitely made his week!! He kept grinning like a school boy. And lastly, I've heard your requests to model the yarn myself, and I promise I'm working upto that. I really hate my picture taken, but I will get over it - just for all of you, soon. Now, you have something to look forward to. Hahaha!

This week my handsome father is modeling the yarn. I asked him to model the yarn for me on Friday and he kept frowning at me and I thought, "This ain't happening!" But, would you believe, he came back on Saturday morning - clean shaven and dressed up, ready for his photo shoot. We had a beautiful day here, which was great and he was really good at modeling the yarn. Hope everyone likes the pictures!!

This week's featured yarn is the NEW Malabrigo Twist. I have 2 skeins of it to giveaway, again! I just love Malabrigo Worsted and I have heard so many wonderful things about this new yarn called Twist. This yarn is 100% baby merino wool and boy is it soft!! There's approximately 150 yds per skein and it's colorway 616 Plena. If you have not seen this color in person, you will love it when you do! It's this beautiful combination of rich royal blues and purples with dark navy blue running into light blue and turquoises that turn into this really muted straw yellow brown. It's a little hard to describe to say the least and the pictures don't do it justice, but none the less, there it is.

This week I've decided to do the giveaway a little differently. I'm posting a little early, hehehe, tricky me! Also, I'm extending the comment time until Sunday at midnight. That way folks can actually comment and enter the giveaways up through the end of the week. On with the show...

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. I wanted to add a little more to this line and say that if you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address, that will work. I will send it to them and then they can forward it on to you. See house rules for further details.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 2/28/2010, telling us who you have invited to the blog. I would like to grow this community a little further and in order to do that, I need your help. I know your saying to yourself, but if I invite a friend... it'll be less of a chance to win. True; however, if this blog can continue to grow, I can host bigger and more winner giveaways (for instance 2 or 3 winners a week instead of just 1). Make sense? So, I would like you to invite one very nice knitting friend of yours to the blog and then comment who you invited (i.e. Hi, Ve! I just got together with my nice knitting friend this week for coffee. Her name is Pavla and I invited her to your blog on Tuesday.) You get the idea! Now, I'm going to trust that you invite a real friend, because your imaginary one won't work. Sorry. Just give your friend the domain name yarnonthehouse.com and let's see what happens! Hopefully, your friends like the blog as much as you do and we can double in size this week. That would be fun!

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

I just posted a link on my Facebook page since I have a lot of knitting friends there. :)

The only knitting friends I have are on twitter and they already know about your blog. I could tell my mom (she crochets) about it but then I'd have to explain what a blog is and then how to turn on the computer and get on this new fangled internet. So I'm going to spare my sanity and just hope my lack of irl knitting friends isn't held against me :-)
By the way I almost ordered this exact colorway when I ordered my first malabrigo purchase (which will hopefully arrive this week.
Thank you for the chance to win...hope I'm the lucky one to win this beautiful yarn.

I have passed on your blog info to two wonderful knitters in my life that share my name. Ann & Annie. Annie is a brillant knitter who has an exordinary talent to finish what she starts. A sometimes rare thing in the knitting world.
Then there's Ann, who I met because of Twitter. We realize everyday that we have more in common. She is one of the most creative knitters I know and does amazing things with yarn and color. Although she rarely finishes things.
Well those are the knitters i've passed along your blog to.
I'll keep reading. Thanks. Ann in Philadelphia

What a great blog and beautiful yarn.

I followed the link that Cindy posted and I did the same as Cindy and posted the link on my Facebook page - so all my knitting friends have been informed.

All my friends already know about your blog, and given that you got 100 entries this time, it is growing quickly. I will try telling my friend Ellen about it. She is about the only one I can think of who knits but doesn't know about the blog.

Well, I don't have any IRL knitting or crocheting friends (sad, I know) so I hope it counts that I retweet your tweets on Twitter (like this). Twitter is where I have met most of my knitting "friends." :)

Thanks again for the fun giveaways!

I think our entire knitting group has entered, but I will make sure that everyone is aware that there is a new contest up.

And since my name is the female version of Karel, I'm feeling lucky. Very lucky!

Oh, and the yarn is divine, being quite the purple fan, this is right up my alley!

I will tell my mother about your blog, and hopefully she will start coming here too. She has only used box store yarns, and I am trying to encourage her to try LYS and the internet to learn about the beautiful and wonderful yarns out there. If we should happen to win, here would be her big chance! She won't let me buy her nicer yarn, but I hope she would take some she won.

Thanks!

Lots of my friends are knitters. Some are just learning or are still somewhat amateur, like me, but some are a lot better than me. (One of my good friends even owns our best local yarn store where I get all of my Malabrigo.) I posted a link Yarn on the House on Facebook last week, and it got lots of good comments. Don't know who has started reading regularly, but lots of my knitting friends took a look (especially since I mentioned the giveaways!)

Heather said...

Wow. I can see where your brother got his being-handsome-ness! Your dad's pretty handsome too!

I'm sharing your blog with my girlfriend, who is a newly rejuvenated knitter and already a devoted Malabrigo fan. She just finished some armwarmers in the Worsted that she wears constantly, even in the 50-degree weather we've been having.

Hi, Ve,

A friend of mine on Ravelry invited me to join your group. I'm inviting Jen, another knitter/spinner friend. She has left our group and moved to Maryland and we miss her! I hope she joins.

What fun ideas you have! Retweeted to my 126 followers (not all knitters but some). Your dad is a cutie too.

I told all of my knitter friends on twitter about this blog. I have knitted with Malabrigo sock yarn, but no other Malabrigo yarns, and I would love to!
