giveaway #8

Last giveaway's winner is: Anne (aanderson), who posted on the 15th saying that she has never seen Madelinetosh yarn before. I'm glad that I can introduce you then! Please shoot me an email at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com with your info to claim your prize.

This week the post is going to be sweet and short. This is the 3rd Madelinetosh giveaway in the 4 part series that I am hosting and this week's yarn is soooooooooo very pretty and I got a good looking model for you again! Meet Jared and your Madelinetosh Tosh Lace in the color Cedar.

This yarn is so squishy and soft! It is made of superwash merino wool and the skein boasts 950 yds!! The colorway is amazing in person. I'm not sure my pictures do this yarn justice. During the first MadTosh giveaway, Robin commented that Cedar is her favorite color. She said, "It nearly glows." And, I think she's right! Here's another picture for you to enjoy.

And, here's another picture of Jared with the yarn:

Thank you, Jared for modeling the yarn for us this week! Jared is Alison's husband (Alison is my cute pregnant friend that modeled the red MadTosh a couple weeks ago). Jared is also my husband's best friend from childhood. They attended church camp together as kids and got into trouble together when they were teenagers! Pretty much Jared and Alison are more like family to us than just our friends. So, thank you Jared and Ali for being my models, and I'm sure everyone here will want to see pictures of your little boy once he arrives in April (or May).

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1) Have an address in the US to ship the yarn to. If you have a friend or relative that has a US mailing address who is willing to be your shipping sponsor, that will work as well. I will send it to them and they can then forward it on to you.

2) Post a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 3/28/2010, telling us your favorite place to knit. Anne (the winner of last week's giveaway) suggested this question and I thought it was a really good one. My favorite place to knit is at home in bed with channel 934 on (which is a music channel called Soundscapes and plays very soothing music that most of the time has no vocals), and a few candles lit to set the mood. In all honesty though, this favorite knitting place is usually occupied by my little girl, my little dogs, and my husband, so the channel is not set to 934 and the candles are a hazard!

3) Please post only one comment to give everyone a fair chance.

Again, I'll randomly pick the winner on Sunday and post the results on Monday along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

I have never used Madelinetosh yarn before either but would certainly love to try. My favorite place to knit is in my craft room, a room I just painted and decorated as my own personal oasis.

That colorway is gorgeous! What a lovely shawl that'd make.

One of my favorite places to knit is in my gaming chair in the living room. Add a cup of tea and music or a movie and it's heaven!

and I stand by my comment:) Wouldn't it be serendipitous if I won? My favorite knitting spot is my big overstuffed red chair. The arms are wide enough to support a pattern or row counter. There is a table at my right hand for drinks and the light. A squishy ottoman and the TV make up, not only my favorite knitting spot, but my favorite spot in the whole town.

That color is beautiful! My favorite place to knit is on my couch. There is one particular spot (referred to in our house as "Mommy's spot") on the couch that has good lighting, is right under a vent (heat in the winter and AC in the summer), has a view of nearly every room in the house (so I can keep an eye on the kids), and is comfy. That is my favorite place to knit!

Jessica said...

Oh my, that yarn is beautiful! I love the colors in it! I can feel the gears in my head turning pondering whether than yarn would want to be a pair of socks from the sock innovation book or one of the many designs in my sketch book. My favorite place to knit, well I have a few. I really like knitting with my mom at her house, but since I can't make it over there all the time, I usually sit in my green chair at home with a jane austen movie in the dvd player. I generally don't care where I am as long as I have knitting with me!

kirsten said...

Wow that yarn is stunning! My favorite place to knit is in my favorite chair with the heater on my feet while listening to a book on tape. Right now I'm listening to "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". It seems perfect for knitting.

Leah said...

That is beautiful yarn!

My favorite place to knit is curled up in the corner of my couch with a cup of hot chocolate on the end table, a blanket over my lap, the pattern on my left and yarn on my right over the arm coming from my knitting basket.

What beautiful yarn! My favorite place to knit is my comfy armchair in my family room with my feet up on an ottoman. Usually with the TV on!

I have never seen Madelintosh yarn before. I checked out their website to try and order some yarn and almost all of the yarn is sold out! Bummer.

I love the Cedar colorway! It's gorgeous and I think that it would make a beautiful Citron! :)

I would knit it in my favorite chair. It's green, blue, yellow and white and it hangs from my ceiling! Hooray hammock chair! :)

Gorgeous! I've never used Madelinetosh yarn... I'm not sure I've ever even touched it! I hope to get a chance :)

I'm so glad you introduced me to this yarn, I see it everywhere now! love to knit, sadly, in front of the TV - watching old movies!! I can look out the window at the wildlife and pine trees though.

Happy knitting!

I like to knit while I wait for my children at Tae Kwon Do. This means no idle hands, and much gets done, while I chat with friends and watch my kids. :)

The yarn is beautiful....I would love to see it in person! My favorite place to knit is on the porch of a cabin overlooking something scenic....river, lake, mountain.

I like to knit in my bed, with the computer balanced on my knees playing one of my guilty pleasure TV shows (can't wait for this season's Dancing with the Stars). :-)

This yarn is new to me and your photos make it look so yummy!! (Knitters know what I mean by that, don't they?) That is a GORGEOUS colorway too! Jared did a nice job too....you're so lucky to have so many great models willing to pose for you.

I have a question about Madelinetosh....can you only get it online, or are there distributors? If there are stores carrying it, how do we find out who they are?

Thanks!

I've never even seen Madelinetosh yarn in person, but looking at the pictures I have fallen in love with the Cedar. My favorite place to knit is my big green chair in the living room, but right now it's in my bedroom waiting to be slipcovered. So I currently knit in my husbands recliner.

My favorite place to knit is at home in my recliner by the fire. but I knit anywhere!!!

This color is absolutely beautiful!

My favorite place to knit is in a little phone booth at work. I work for a marketing company with a very open floor plan and these phone booths were designed to give folks a little privacy, although few people make use of them. There's a comfy chair, a phone and a small built-in desk.

I bring my knitting to work every day and when I'm able to take a lunch break I sequester myself in a phone booth. It's a relaxing and productive break in my day although sometimes it's hard to return to my desk :)

This is indeed a super duper color!

I love to knit while listening to folk music and playing Scrabble with my man at a local coffee shop that hosts live music Thurs - Sat nights. Now, to be honest, my man is super slow at playing his letters, so knitting really helps me pass the time during his turns. The live music is also a great bonus leading to an overall experience of wonder and relaxation. Oh, and 90% of the time I win Scrabble. Knitting helps so many things!

Blue is my absolute favorite color. It looks gorgeous!

My favorite place to knit? Well, I have two. When I am at home, I like to sit on the couch, which is next to the fireplace. When I'm at school (I'm in college), I love curling up in my bed with pillows behind me to knit, have a cup of tea, and watch TV. It's so relaxing!

I love to knit in a small leather recliner with a floor lamp shinning over my shoulder.

I love your description of your favorite place to knit. I guess mine would be the recliner in my living room. However, the living room is usually occupied by my entire family. And if I'm in the recliner, my 2 yo son, and 4 yo daughter think I'm free game to sit on! (So much for knitting! :P)

Another lovely skein, indeed. I've never seen Madelinetosh, nor have I ever knit with lace, so this would be quite the adventure for me. I like knitting so many places, but I particularly like knitting on my couch with my dog next to me and a movie on the TV.

Omigosh that yarn is to die for! I would love to knit it up in my favorite spot: the corner of my couch, where I fit just perfectly because I have been sitting there knitting for years. :)

My favorite place to knit is in our den with a fire going in the fireplace. It is so cozy, just perfect for knitting. I am a relatively new knitter though, and relatively obsessed with it, so I haven't found a place I don't like to knit yet! I would love to win this beautiful yarn! Thanks for the chance!

My favorite spot to knit is in my living room in my recliner. Preferably with some Dirty Jobs in the background.

My favourite place to knit is outside--natural light for lace knitting is a must. Just waiting for the temps to go up and the sun to come out and you'll find me out back with a cup of coffee.

Oh Yummy!!!!!! How beautiful, and the yarn is pretty, too! ;)

My favorite place to knit is the corner spot on the couch. It is the MOST comfy spot in the whole living room and my husband and I fight over it! :) But, since I am pregnant, I get priority seating right now!! I have a big, comfy blanket that I throw over my legs and I listen to whatever sports show the hubby is watching!

This yarn is gorgeous!!

Julie said...

That yarn is simply gorgeous!!! My favorite place to knit is in my Ikea pillow chair in our living room. When I knit during the day (if) I'm usually catching up on dvr'd episodes of Bones or Private Practice, at night, it's whatever hubby has on the tv.

Jillian said...

I like to knit in my comfy desk chair (now that I have a lamp!). I usually end up knitting in the kitchen though, while my son naps in a carrier on my back. Had to invest in some project bags with longer handles so that I could walk him around and knit at the same time. :)

Unknown said...

That's such a pretty color! I'm pretty new to knitting and still trying out exciting new things like circular needles and fancy yarn. My favorite place to knit right now is on my couch in my living room! It's best with my wife playing video games on our tv, and a cuddly fifty-pound dog glued to the side of my leg. Cats rotate in and out of my lap, pretending they just want to sit there and purr, until they try to eat my yarn and I kick them out again.

BTW, that is a fabulous color of yarn.

Well my favorite place to knit would be out on my patio if all the dogs in the neighborhood and my dogs would not go wack a doodle everytime a human walks outside. My usual place to knit is in my chair in the family room in front of the TV, very common I am sure.

Yay! Another beautifule MadTosh! My favorite place to knit is weird...it's in my husbands SUV on road trips! I get the best light and I'm not distracted except for by scenery...but I usually don't lose my place. At home, I knit on the couch that is lighting challenged, but it's my spot... though I'm much more easily distracted at home...

Allycat3221 said...

I adore the colors in this yarn! I've never used Madelinetosh yarn before either, but I'd love to try it out with this particular colorway. I adore knitting shawls, and the generous yardage would make a really beautiful one with a minimum of weaving in ends! My favorite place to knit is on the couch in my spot, with everything I need beside me including bright light, tv or music, water or juice to drink, and multiple knitting projects to choose from. My favorite comforts are my husband seated nearby (who gladly listens to my knitterly talk), and our beloved cat Frank snoring in his bed.
Thanks for your generosity,
Mary

My favorite place to knit is downstairs with a fire going, in my recliner (have you ever tried knitting without your feet up?), with our queen cat Milli curled on my lap. She doesn't bother with the yarn too much, and doesn't mind getting poked with the needles either. She's a true lap cat. Between her and the knitting I stay nice and warm :).

My favorite place to knit is during the weekly colloquium at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. It keeps me sharp and alert during the hour long talks that can get quite technical but which are usually very interesting. The only downside is that while I'm working I often run out of ways to hold onto my coffee. This will soon be solved by the mighty power of an Actual Coffee Travel Mug, instead of a scrappy styrofoam cup.

We live in Michian's Thumb region which is two hours from my parents in Metro Detroit and four hours from my in-laws in the Upper Pennisula so I get lots of quality knitting time in during the to-and-from. Knitting allows for lots of day dreaming for me, and lots of sports talk listening for my hubby. And the best part - we are both relaxed and ready to handle our respective families when we arrive!

My favorite place to knit is looking out over the water at Huntington Lake. Just being surrounded by trees and clean air and such a beautiful view is so relaxing and inspiring. Unfortunately, I don't live there so the rest of the time I like to knit at Starbucks. In contrast to the peace and quiet of the mountains, I love seeing all the people that come in and meeting all the knitters (or future knitters!) I'm amazed at what a conversation-starter knitting is, particularly on DPNs.

That yarn looks amazing. I love to knit on the semi-covered deck at my local grocery/cafe. It's the best place to concentrate. If I'm at home, I can always find something else I need to do.

My favorite place to knit is on the couch with a pillow stuffed under each arm, a big mug of tea, and something from the Discovery Channel quietly playing. Of course, there's usually a pug on my lap, meaning double points are out and so is anything large that would drape onto said pug!

Heather said...

Such pretty yarn in some of my favorite colors!

My favorite place to knit is on a long plane ride. Strange? Maybe, but if I'm knitting on a plane, it means I'm travelling!

My favorite, but not always accessible spot is at Martha's Vineyard sitting in my beach chair, 80 degress with a slight breeze, kids and husband building sand castles and me just sitting enjoying the view and knitting...until the kids come over covered in sand and start pawing at me to get some food/drink/towel....

Agree on the gorgeous color choice!

Fave places to knit depends on the project in hand...
1. More complicated work (where I have to count the stitches!) is usually in front of the TV catching up on my 'guilty pleasures'...Celebrity Rehab, Dog the Bounty Hunter AND RuPaul's DragRace.
2. Simple one-skein things are reserved for waiting in the care for my daughter to get out of school
3. Most fave place is at a local coffee/eatery on Sunday mornings with a group of knitters...slurp and knit....jabber, jabber, knit some more.

Gorgeous color! My favorite place to knit is my chaise! It is old, squishy in all the right places, and it sits next to a little table with little drawers, that hold ALL my knitting paraphernalia. A glass of wine, a little Law & Order, and I'm pleased as pie!!

oooh that's tough. Can I have a couple? The first one is in front of the fire at my parents' house with my mom. The second one is at Pomegranate Place in Denver.

Also a madelinetosh virgin! That skein looks absolutely beautiful! It looks so nice for Knitspots Whispering Pines shawl with it's blend of colors!
My fav place to knit, well a couple. Anytime in my cozy chair right in the living room. It is central in the house with a view out front but french doors to the back so you can see all. In summer though, by the water. We have a lake a few doors down with a small dock. I love to sit here and knit and watch the wildlife!

Sharon Rose said...

Yum! My favorite place to knit is on my couch (it fits me and my short egs perfectly), with a movie on the TV, my husband next to me, and my Maine Coon cat squished between us, upside down, distracting me from the yarn with his super-fluffy belly.

Katie said...

Oh my that yarn is delicious! I love to knit at my desk listening to music where I can gaze out the window :)

My favorite place to knit is in "my" chair in the family room. It's sort of a mission/stickley style chair with an adjustable high back with cushions, and a footstool. I have my side table next to me with a lamp, phone, basket of knitting stuff, magazines and I can watch tv and knit away!

Naia said...

My favorite place to knit is Black Cat Books in Manitou Springs, unfortunately, I have moved away. I like to knit in public.

That madelinetosh yarn is beautiful.

My favorite place to knit is my LYS n Saturdays. They have open studio all day every day - but Saturday's crowd is the rowdy bunch.

Miss Melissa Bee said...

The yarn this week is so beautiful. It reminds me of the sea.

My favorite place to knit is in my big brown chair with my feet up, listening to The Weepies or Eilen Jewel or someone else with a soothingly wonderful voice. I have a giant covered basket next to the chair to hold yarn. The chair is situated next to a big window and is drenched in sunlight for most of the day. It just might be my favorite spot in the whole world.

Happy Knitting!

CraftyLaDonna said...

Wow, that is a gorgeous color (green is my favorite)!

My favorite place to knit is a secluded place up in the mountains by a small babbling stream. My boyfriend and I take a picnic lunch and a couple of camping chairs. I can keep the yarn ball in the arm's cupholder to keep if from getting away. It's so peaceful and I can get so much done without distraction. So glad spring is here so I can go back there soon.

When I'm at home, though, it's knitting in my recliner next to a fire. Have one going as I write this.

Hmm. I've only been knitting for a few months, but so far, I think my favorite place to knit is at the pub! My local SnB holds its weekly meetings in an Irish pub so I get to knit while drinking Magners or black and tans. Yum!

oooohh I'm a droooling over that yarn - so so so pretty!! And the model is pretty cute too! ;) you have such nice looking friends :)

My favorite place to knit is either 1.) with my friends down at the knit shop, or 2.) in bed, with all the pillows, listening to my podcasts all warm and cozy.. but like you, with a little one - it doesn't happen as often as I'd like!!

Very pretty yarn! My favorite place to knit is in front of the TV with a glass of wine and my fiancé at my side while we're watching a great movie. Hopefully my next project will be from some Tosh yarn!

Oooh goodie! Another chance to try some Madeline Tosh yarn!!!

I love to knit anywhere and everywhere...but to narrow it down, hmmm. One of my favorite knitting places is in the corner of the couch with either a cup of hot tea or coffee while watching Midsomer Murders dvd's. Another one of my faves is at knit-nite with my good friends :)

I found your blog through the Little Knits forum ;)
My favorite place to knit actually goes along with a season, Summer. I love knitting in the back yard in my lounge chair in the summer while the kids play in their pool. The sounds of laughter and "Mommy look at me" while enjoying my favorite past time can't be beat.

I have never used Madelinetosh yarn either, looks beautiful! I am new to knitting and loving it! So far, my favorite place to knit is when I am stuck on long conference calls on my hands-free headset. If my hands are free, I should be knitting, right?

Sandy said...

I have been eying Madelinetosh for a while now - it looks amazing! What a fantastic color - the possibilities are endless. My favorite place to knit is on my back deck in my cozy lounge chair! Even though the bugs get a bit crazy - it is a great spot. I have to admit - I also like knitting almost anywhere that I have time to kill (my car, the dentist's office, line up at the store!)

Oh, that yarn! I think that was one I spied at a trip to WEBS and somehow managed to not buy! I regret that now.

One of my favorite places to knit is on a porch near the ocean. Plenty of natural light, a roof to cover you from sunburns, the breeze and the sound of ocean waves and something to look at. I wish I was on vacation and knitting right now!

Eliz said...

I, also, have never seen or used the Madelinetosh yarn, but would love to knit with it. The cedar color is beautiful.

My favorite place to knit is in my swivel rocking chair in front of a roaring fire in the glass-fronted woodstove. A nearby cup of tea, and life is perfect.

My absolute favorite place to knit is somewhere outside. Unfortunately I do not live in a place where it's warm enough to do that all year long, so I'm really, really looking forward to spring finally arriving! Otherwise, my favorite place to knit is at a coffee shop, any coffee shop. I will knit at home, but only on the couch when watching TV. I can't knit in bed.

I like to knit at Starbucks, at 2 other local cafes, on my exerciser, or at the mall, but probably my favourite place is on my couch with my girls on either side of me getting help with math.

I have never seen Madelinetosh yarn in person before either! (Although my LYS is going to start stocking it soon.) My favorite place to knit is in a recliner chair, in front of the tv and the fireplace. The chair is ugly, but so comfy. When the leg part is extended, there is plenty of room for my kitty to snuggle with me(down by my calves) and not get in the way of needles or yarn.

My favorite place to knit is in my recliner in front of my computer, with my iPod going in one ear and the other tuned for any troublemaking my kids (6 and 19 months) might get into.

Even if I don't win this giveaway, I might just have to buy a skein of it for myself. :)

I've only been knitting since fall, but I knit just about everywhere. My favorite place though is the left-hand side of the couch. I can see out the window and watch the world, see the tv if I choose to watch it and I have a perfect view of my Golden Retriever Samson laying just a few feet away from me in his spot on the other side of the couch. And of Delilah, my female Golden Retriever laying at my feet.

JP said...

Beautiful color, although I'm not sure what to do with it. I haven't worked with the Madtosh yarns, so a trip to the LYS might be in order. Just as soon as I work down the knitting back-log :S

Favorite place to knit is on the living room couch, the seat closest to the coffee table while watching sub-titled anime with hubby. I must admit both my speed reading and knitting by touch skills have increased as a result :D

Like nearly everyone else, I've never used Madelinetosh either. That color is gorgeous -- looks like the Caribbean!

I can imagine plenty of ideal places to knit, but most of my actual knitting takes place after the kids are in bed and I'm tucked into the couch watching t.v. with my husband. Makes me feel a lot less guilty about zoning out if I'm working on something.

My favorite place to knit? Pretty much any place becomes my favorite, once I'm knitting there! I often knit at home in my bedroom with my knitting podcasts going. It's my retreat from a busy household with lots of loud people running around. With a cup of coffee or glass of wine, it's a nice way to relax at the end of the day.

Julie Murphy said...

My favorite place to knit is stretched out on the living room couch with the radio on, after my daughter's gone to bed. She's 14 months and obsessed with my yarn balls, so trying to knit earlier than bedtime isn't very productive...

Squee! Gorgeous yarn! I almost didn't even notice the model (almost). My favorite place to knit is in the papa san chair in my craft room, a room designed and built by my husband to fulfill my fibery dreams. If I win, I'll send pics of the room!

I'm currently knitting my Evenstar Mystery Shawl in there. :D

I live in an old millhouse. When it was built in 1883, there was a small side porch facing the mill and river. When we renovated, we enclosed that porch. I have a shelf on the clapboard side of the wall containing my yarn and knitting books. I have a chaise lounge and a small table for my iPod dock and a cup of tea. My kids call it The Knitting Room, and it is without a doubt the BEST place to knit!

That is absolutely gorgeous! It wants to go with me to my favorite knitting place, which is...

The deck of the vacation rental in North Carolina that overlooks the little pond full of turtles and a bunch of frogs raising a ruckus and the ocean in the background. The other 51 weeks out of the year I settle for my cozy chair in my living room. ;)

Melissa said...

Oh, I love this color! I've never used this yarn, but I've seen it around and hopes to purchase it one day.

To be honest my favorite place to knit is in the car while my husband drives. It's nice to chat about stuff and get work done. Since everywhere we go is nearly 3 hours away I get that time to knit. No grubby hands, no stopping to let the dogs out, no wondering where my project went when I got the door, just peaceful knitting till we arrive at our destination. The down side is we only leave home about once a month, which makes my other favorite spot my favorite chair when children are sleeping.

Kate said...

So gorgeous, would love a chance to knit with this yarn!

My favorite knitting spot is in my rocker/glider in my living room. I get to put my feet up and usually have a diet pepsi or glass of wine beside me, and children fast asleep in bed :)

What a striking colorway! My favorite place to knit is in front of the tv or near the radio (currently listening to Wait, Wait, Don't tell me on NPR podcast). And I must have good lighting.

Beautiful color. My favorite place to knit is the left side of my boyfriend's couch. The cushions fit just right and there is enough back support that I can knit for a while without inducing a repetitive stress injury. There is also a lot of nice natural light.

My favorite place to knit is in a little corner on the couch, with my husband and my daughter next to me. We may all be doing something different, but we're all together. The only thing that would make it better would be if my son were here too.

That is gorgeous yarn! I'll keep my fingers crossed that maybe, maybe, I'll get a chance to finally try Madelnetosh.
