I am knitting the whirligig shrug for my daughters - I am guessing on the sizing up for my 3, 5, and 10 year olds. It makes great travel knitting, though, because it is small but interesting.

Oh you know how much I LOVE S&C and I have been eyeing the Chloe sweater and now that it is in my girls sizes I am eyeing it even more!

What a lovely pattern and lovely yarn to go with it! You could start some holiday knitting and do some washcloths/dishcloths or something along that line or do some totally selfish knitting (which is probably what I would do) and cast on something just for you!

I think for hawaii you should knit something with oranges, yellow and greens in it. Maybe a nice pair of socks. Knit with something that makes you happy!!

Very cute sweater!
Some nice dishclothes might be nice, easy knitting that can turn out pretty but (often) doesn't require too much attention so you can relax on the plane.

I suggest you cast on some socks for your trip to Hawaii. They are small and portable, and easy to work on when you have a little time here and there. And a sock project won't make you hot and sweaty while you're knitting. Have fun!

since you are heading to Hawaii, maybe something like the Hibiscus shawl (found it on rav) it looks light and airy, with the state flower on it. i hope you have a lot of fun on your trip. i have always wanted to see hawaii. aloha!

I think you should cast on for a simple lace shawl, knit in a yarn that is not too fine, eg., DK or fingering. For one, you won't have to do any "finishing" on it, unless you knit really fast, and the growing lace and pattern (and diff colors if the yarn is variegated) is fun to watch over time.

I would choose something small or light-weight to knit while in Hawaii. Since you'll be knitting socks soon, maybe go for gloves or arm warmers or something else small for the hands.

I think you should cast on something that you can easily work on and not be totally committed to since you will be enjoying your holiday, as well. I think the Fairies and Flowers Scarf (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fairies-and-flowers-scarf) is absolutely darling and the pattern only just came out. I'd love to win; I have a baby girl due in December! I knit part of Azzu's shawl and part of Anna's Shoulder Wrap while traveling. Both are easy and enjoyable. Otherwise, I'd pick any pattern that seemed easy enough while on vacation.

I love the sweater ann Alana makes a fabulous model as usual. I like to knit socks or mittens while I am traveling - they are just so portable and don't take up much spcae in your suitcase - so there is more room for bring home wonderful souvenirs! Have fun!

I think whatever you decide to cast on should be simple, cool, and colorful. You should be able to enjoy the knitting while savoring the relaxing ... with no compromise to either! Happy vacation to you and thank you both for your generous sharing!

I think you should cast on a lace-weight cardigan, something like 'Adrift' or 'Wispy Cardi'. They would both be great to layer with on a cool evening or with a cool ocean breeze.

You should cast on a lightweight (lace?) simple shawl in handpainted aquas, blues and greens. This way you don't have to concentrate on the pattern but you can look out over the aqua blues waters, knit and always have a souvenier of your trip! The colors of the water will forever be etched in your mind.

Have a great time in Hawaii! I would consider Laura Chau's Hibiscus Shawl in a bamboo or silk blend fingering weight yarn. The silk will give it some sheen. Cookie A.'s Kai-Mei socks always make me think of Hawaii, especially if knit in a fun, bright color. And if you're into colorwork, Erssie Knits has a free hibiscus chart available on Ravelry. You could do a pair of socks with flowers ringing the leg.

I would take my Yarntini silk cashmere self striping yarn in the LOST numbers colorway with me and knit a pair of luxurious socks.
For whatever you pick, I'd keep it simple and mindless using a luxuriously textured yarn. When yarn is to die for, you don't ned to be complicated.

Well, as far as Hawaii goes, I hope you enjoy yourself there and find that you don't have too much time to knit because you're having too much fun! I would choose something that is fairly mindless to do so that you can relax. Maybe some nice lacy pattern that is easy to memorize?

Oh, you're so lucky - I went to Hawaii earlier this year, and absolutely adored it.
When I went, I took some crochet with me, rather than knitting - travel times were about 26 hours door to door each way, and couldn't bear the thought of that with nothing to occupy my hands, especially as you can't take knitting needles in your carryon (at least flying to/from the UK...)
I did http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-lace-cardigan - first major crochet project, and I was halfway done by the time we landed - though if you can take knitting needles on US domestic flights, all the better!
I'd definitely reccomend something lacey and easy enough to memorise - either a cardigan or wrap in beautiful bright hibiscus shades and a light silky/bamboo type yarn - great for a late night stroll along the beach, or warming you up when you get back. I love the border on Haruni, but I don't know that I'd be brave enough to tackle it on holiday!

I'm knitting the Laodice shawl right now, and I highly recommend it. It's customizable for any weight or length of yarn, easy enough for beach knitting but interesting enough that it isn't boring. Plus the shape is really unique and it looks great in variegated or solid colors.

When I travel I only want to take projects with one ball of yarn , usually sock, mitten or glove knitting. There are also some wonderful shawls made with one ball of yarn -Coquille Shawl would be a great travel size.

The Champagne Fizz hat! Ok kidding aside. I agree that it should be something that reminds you of Hawaii. Ravelry has several dishcloths with tropical patterns (sea turtle, palm tree, etc). It seems like you usually go for wraps, but dishcloths are smaller which makes them more portable. Although you'd have to pay attention to the chart alot.

Oh, for vacation knitting, I recommend socks.
I always use circs, they don't jab the people next to you on the plane, and they don't look as lethal to the TSA :-)
If you don't like socks, then something equally small and portable like a hat.

I really think you should knit some lingerie. Something from Sexy Little Knits, perhaps? It's a new (to most people)type of project, strangers will go NUTS trying to guess what you're making, and it won't be too big and heavy to cart around a tropical isle.

I like justthreadtwiddling's idea with bamboo yarn. Bright blue, green, or yellow (or all three) would add to the tropical feel of Hawaii. Twistyarnshop.com has a couple free sock patterns that are really cute. I especially like the Sake Sock pattern. It has a split toe so you could wear them with flip flops. Great for freezy-breeze toes, that would be uncomfortable in the open air; yet feel trapped by closed shoes while on vacation.

Hawaii, so jealous! I always seem to knit a shawl of some sort when traveling. I'm getting ready for a road trip this weekend and am planning on taking the Citron pattern and some Malabrigo lace!

Hmmm...socks seem to be the theme in the comments so I won't say socks. Although socks are a good idea. When I travel I take something that is interesting enough to keep me amused, but not so difficult that I can't enjoy the scenery.

I would love to use this yarn to knit a Chloe for my granddaughter every year in different sizes as she grows. For airplane travel, I recommend a laceweight shawlette. My current favorite is the Echo Flower Shawl.

For Hawaii knitting: I suggest the Sunset Lace Stole. Easy to memorize beautiful cotton lace stole to wear with tanks or sundresses.

what great yarn! and a precious sweater, too. i definitely think you should cast on for hannah fettig's featherweight cardigan - perfect for breezy hawaiian nights, and since I want to cast on for it so badly but can't because I have too much going on, I can live vicariously through you!
