The two winners of the Zylphia Cowl pattern and skein of Sunflower Yarns are:

Susan G & Orli

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

Hello, fellow knitters and yarn obsessed friends!

For those of you that follow the YOTH Group you may have already heard about the medical problems that I have been experiencing in my life as of late. About a month ago I started having serious problems with my gallbladder and unfortunately, it got to the point where I had to have it removed. Of all things, I landed in the hospital on Friday the 13th for emergency surgery. I ended up having a couple of complications and spent almost a week at the hospital. Yuck! I'm back home now and feeling much better - well on my to full recovery.

But, the blog must go on! This giveaway is a little different than usual. I have a guest that is a knitter, designer, and graphics artist. Well, I'll just let you read her bio... meet Knitterella:

"Jill Zielinski, aka Knitterella, is a graphic designer by trade and a knitter by heart. In 2003 she combined her passions and created Knitterella. Her whimsical paper product line continues to grow. With her unique gift tags being the star of the line, they are not only loved by knitters but all crafters alike! Jill has recently added project bags and even her first original knitting pattern. See the complete product line at www.knitterella.com.

Along with her Knitterella business, Jill is a freelance graphic designer. She takes pride in the fact that the larger part of her clientele are fellow knitters. From logos, to pattern layout and ads to web graphics, Jill Zielinski Designs can create just about anything. See some of her work and contact her for rates at www.jillzielinskidesigns.com."

Check out Jill's really cute Smocked Slouch hat pattern:

Along with her great sense of style, Jill designs funny knitting goodies. Her gift tags are well known. I love this set! Too funny! Jill has also recently added knitting project bags to her arsenal, and honestly who couldn't use another WIP project bag?!

I want 10 of these!! Jill has graciously donated three of her lovely project bags for three lucky followers to win. There's one with each of her funny sayings. Thanks, Knitterella!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 6/5/11. What do you use for project bags? Anything out of the ordinary? I recently found a cosmetic case for a really great price that had plastic sections on the inside - perfect for a small project and all the tools to knit it. How do you like to carry your knitting projects?

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

I am not entering the draw this time, but just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery. Take loads of rest and get well soon.

I use 'real' project bags, plus a couple of large zipped pencil cases, and a supermarket recyclable bag (it's Cath Kidston!) These look like loads of fun!
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Pamela said...

I use the plastic bags that my yarn store sold me the yarn in, or ziplock baggies. I need something "official" :)
Glad you are feeling better.

I alternate between a tote I got at the Ravelry store, an old-fashioned project bag from my hubby's grandma, and a clear plastic case that had a cosmetic set in it and still smells deliciously!
Thank you for another fun giveaway, and hope you'll recover soon!

I'm actually on the hunt right now for a good knitting bag. I was using a fabric bag I made to use as an eco bag and it drives me crazy when my needles poke through the loose weave of the fabric.

Jessica Powers said...

First things first - hope the medical stuff has calmed down and your on the way back to full health and goodness!

There are several precious project bags proper made by a friend that I love and always have in use, an old Dior gift with purchase bag that is brilliant for DPN projects, and I just recently turned a gift bag (had a scarf from my bosses in it, the lovelies!) into my most noticeable project bag: it's all over silver!

Avimatic said...

I love smaller drawstring bags for projects like socks and mittens that I can throw into my purse but for sweaters and other large projects I have 2 "real" knitting bags and a few medium sized tote bags. I really like having the smaller pockets that the "real" bags have - it makes it easier to keep track of notions.

lori said...

sadly, I use whatever I can find, and sometimes even resort to just tossing my project in my purse. this strategy doesn't usually work very well. :) speedy recovery to you!

Get well, Ve!

I love this giveaway. I most often use a box bag that I bought on Etsy.

Barb Mowery said...

I use just about anything on hand to corral my projects. Right now I have knitting projects stashed in a Longaberger purse, some 1 gallon ziplock bags, a woven basket from a developing country, and my sewing box (which should make you ask where all my sewing notions are being stored). Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I have a bunch of book bags from local libraries that my mom and I used to collect when I was younger. They're the perfect size for a WIP, but not nearly as witty or topical as kniterella's!

Tara said...

I have two clear (with designs on) bags from Bath and Body Works that are great bags for medium-sized projects. I also have a handful of the typical small drawstring-style bags. If it's a big project, I have a seemingly limitless supply of tote bags.

Kristina said...

I just stick them in whatever I have closest. They usually end up in the tote bag I carry around, but they'd love to be in their own special bag inside that bag! These are really cute. I love Knitterella.

Hope you are 100% again soon!

Ginger said...

I've had a knit knitting bag with a sewn lining as a WIP almost since I started knitting, one day I will finish it! Until then, I just use a plain over the shoulder grocery-type bag.

Jen Price said...

I usually just keep my current project in a basket for easy toting around the house.

Kassia said...

I've got a load of traditional project bags plus whatever interesting shoulder bags I can find. My most recent purchase was a shoulder bag from Target; it's just the right size for a book and a couple of small projects, plus it's got pockets on the inside that I can throw my cell phone and ipod in so they don't get lost in the bottom of the bag. Wow that was a run-on sentence....anyways, glad to hear you're feeling better! :)

I use lots of random bags for projects. One of my favorites is a bag handmade from Panama that my Aunt got me. Seems to fit everything just right and it's not too big. I also use my yarn shops bags when i buy yarn for a project. FUN!

I have a myriad, seriously, of project bags, ranging from "real" ones like my GoKnits bag, to my Rav bag. My latest, and most unusual, is a rag-braided basket which acts perfectly as a yarn bowl! Thanks for introducing me to these wonderful new products and their maker!!!! The tags are hilarious! I love it all! samm@ravelry

I use medium sized tote bags usually. They're good for larger projects, but when it's just a pair of socks or something else small it's a bit much. My smaller projects end up floating around in there. I love the "I believe I'll knit another row" bag.

ChrisC said...

Oh no! Sorry to hear about your recent health issues. Hopefully you're on the road to recovery now. My mom had her gallbladder out a few years ago, and other than having to be a little more careful about rich, fatty foods now, she's totally recovered!

In terms of the giveaway, I make my own drawstring project bags, in different sizes for sweaters vs hats vs. things that require 2 balls of yarn at the same time, etc. And when I go camping, which is a lot, I usually use a ziploc as a project bag just to keep everything protected better. (Hmm. . . I should try making project bags from all the cute laminated fabric out now!) I'd love to win one of these bags, though -- mine don't have cute sayings on them :-)

LuisaM said...

I use knitting bags, small and big, and that's like you said: you can't have enough!
Get well soon.

TopHat said...

I don't use project bags because I don't have any! I just throw my knitting in the diaper bag or sit it out on the couch (this is not good when you have kids!). Yesterday I made some bags out of old t-shirts. Maybe I should use those for project bags! Or maybe I could win this giveaway?

Sad but true: I use plastic bags for my knitting. Hope to win this time, the bag in the pic is awesome!

Glad you are home and feeling better. I had the same thing happen to me on the 4th of July. The pain was almost worse than labor.

I have a couple of box bags, but my favorite project holder is my great-grandma's knitting basket.

I am so sorry to hear you are having problems with "body parts." Hopefully the removal of the defective part will have you back in "drive" and zooming along.
I pick up bags at the local thrift store and have found some great ones, but if one doesn't work out, I just return it for someone else to try. None are as neat as Knitterella's, though.

I cannot get Google to let me post this comment so am trying Anonymous. Hope it works.

I usually use zip top plastic bags when storing my yarn (I had a big tangling problem before I started doing this). I usually stash my projects in a zip top bag and put it in my purse if it's a small project or carry a canvas bag for larger projects. Thanks for the giveaway.

Megan said...

I started out using plastic ziploc bags, but now have quite the set of project bags ranging from those intended to be knitting bags (like Namaste mesh bags) to other bags that show my flare. I would love to win one of Kniterella's bags! Thanks for the opportunity.

As project bags, I use purses with large openings, Lululemon shopping bags. I've also knitted and felted one bag and sewed a few as well. The size of the project will determine the bag I will use. A new knitting bag would be perfect for my summer knitting!!

I usually carry my projects around in these recyclable bags from Barnes & Noble. Good size...not too big; not too small!!

I've been organizing World Wide Knit in Public events for the last four years. I have been lucky and people volunteered to make bags that are the perfect project bag size to giveaway to the first 40 people that show up for the event. I also have people who donate stitch markers, locally dyed yarn samples from hand dyers and sometimes coupons to shops. A couple of the LYS also donate door prizes. It's a fun event.

I used in the past the bags that yarn purchases came in to recycle them.

I love the Knowknits bags as project bags. For small tools I use a small Namaste mesh bag, which I love because I can see the contents at a glance without opening the bag. To carry multiple projects I toss several project bags into a larger one.

I have a few 2 pocket ethnic bags from world market, a couple of drawstring apple store bags (great for socks), and a large zippered tot from the local farmers market. I like being able to hang them on the coat hooks or in the closet.

I have a couple of handmade drawstring bags that I bought on Etsy but I always have a ton of WIPs that end up in ziploc bags too.

Marlitharn said...

I either shove it into my big felted tote bag, or if it's delicate lace or something I'll put it in a gallon ziploc bag - which then gets shoved into my big felted tote bag. Glad to hear you're on the mend! Take care of yourself!

Sue V Lowe said...

I'm embarrassed to say that most of my WIP's are in plastic grocery bags. This always shames me because I remember reading in one of Maggie Righetti's books that you should always treat your knitting with love and respect (or something like that) and tossing it in a plastic grocery bag is just not right. In my defense, I have so many WIP's that I would need a box load of nice knitting bags to keep them all in. I am trying to frog or finish but it's a challenge.

CarolynEll said...

I've used everything from fabric drawstring bags to plastic ziploc bags for projects! I also use a cosmetic case for my tools, it works great.

I typically use the little plastic or paper bags that the yarn shops use to bag up my goodies. If it's a larger project, I have a larger cotton tote bag that I use. I have a small drawstring bag that was made for me, but I need new drawstrings because the ones that came with the bag haven't survived:(

Keya Kuhn said...

I am notorious for buying the velcro tab lunch bags on the cheap from places like Target or Old Navy--perfect for sock projects. I also like to re-use gift bags, particularly the plain ol' kraft paper bags. HOWEVER, I have dedicated part of my summer to manufacturing some lined, self-locking fabric knitting bags. Time to KIP in style!

Eva said...

Gallbladder surgery isn't much fun. I had emergency surgery the night of my moms birthday party 2 years ago. And my mom had hers out last year. We have a running joke that to live in our house you must have your gallbladder removes. And sometimes my boyfriend teases me and says he's going to break up w/ me, that he only really loved me for my gallbladder (we just had our 4 year anniversary, and he spent 2 uncomfortable nights in a hospital chair keeping me company)
Aaaaand..
I use an envelope shaped clutch that my grandmother crochet to keep little projects in. Otherwise I have a big blue sling type bag that holds bigger projects (my never ending sylvie)

I'm currently using a MASSIVE Vera bag to hold multiple ziplock bags that hold individual projects.

Glad to hear you're on the mend :)

It depends on the project I'm doing. Smaller things I need to shove in my purse get a gallon Ziplock bag. If it's a really big one, I have a tote bag from a yarn store. If I don't really need to transport it, then paper shopping bags seem to hold up well.

Debbie said...

I'm almost embarassed to admit that all my projects are in ziplocks of various sizes. I usually "overbag" them in a backpack or tote bag, but nothing as fun as Kniterella's!

Ziplocks, and drawstring plastic bags from the yarn shops... Happy recovery to you!

I'm currently using a small cosmetic zipper bag for socks. It's perfect; one skein and sock in progress are a snug fit and there's enough room for a small postage stamp sized notebook. Easy to tote around or sneak into church!

I use a little drawstring hemp bag that a cosmetic case came in. I use the cosmetic case for all my bits and pieces.
I have also been known to use a large plastic bag that a set of sheets came in. It has a pocket for the pattern and other bits and is big enough to put in a largish project like a cardigan.

Amanda said...

I usually use cosmetic bags in a variety of sizes. Would love to have an actual project bag though!

Tish said...

Those bags are great! I always have a tote with a project with me (well, almost always). But these bags might be better as I keep my yarn and knitting in a plastic bag in that tote and they don't "breathe" in plastic very well. ^_^

THe bags: What fun! My WIPs are usually sitting in a variety of small totes. My two favorites are a mini boat tote ($3 at Christmas Tree shop) and a beautiful little plasticised art deco design from Harrod's. I use my collection of canvas bags for large projects (sweaters, shawls and blankets). My favorite of the those is my Bryn Mawr Quiddich Team bag (Bryn Mawr is my alma mater). For small projects like socks and mittens, I use the nice draw string bags you get at the Apple store. They are exactly the right size to hold a sock in progress, the yarn needed and a folded pattern. AND they are doubled plastic so dpns are less likely to poke through.
