Nanny Jean & Typstatting

Congratulations! Please contact me at yarnonthehouse@gmail.com to collect your prizes.

This giveaway post is going to be short and sweet, but filled with lots of goodies! I'm taking off tonight to head over to Napa Valley, CA, for my best friend's wedding. It's been a busy last couple of weeks, but I never let my followers down! This giveaway is awesome!!

I have for you Stephen West's Daybreak shawl and some of the most beautiful yarn I've ever used, by indie yarn dyer Cathrin of Walk Collection.

I ran across Walk Collection while browsing Etsy earlier this year and when I saw Cathrin's beautiful hand dyed yarns I honestly squeeled! I don't use variegated colorways very often, but I fell quickly in love with her Purgatory color. I contacted her promptly and asked if she could dye up a matching semi-solid dark color to compliment the Purgatory skein and I knew that I wanted to use the yarn for my very own Daybreak shawl (which I had been itching to knit forEVA!). Here's my listed and purchased set on Etsy.

To top it all off, Stephen so willing obliged and donated some Daybreak shawl patterns for this giveaway. I told you it was gonna be awesome!

Check out my fabulous finished Daybreak shawl in Walk Collection Bluefaced Leicester sock yarn:

daybreakblog

daybreakblog1

daybreakblog2

This was my first time working with a BFL, if I'm not mistaken, and I thoroughly enjoyed the fiber. And, Cathrin's colorways are just magical! And, I don't have to tell you how much I love Stephen's designs... I have not run across one pattern from that man that I don't adore. So very well written, laid out, easy to follow, and not to mention beautiful and unique. What else could a knitter ask for?!

Here's the lovely Walk Collection gift set one Grand Prize Winner has a chance to win plus a PDF copy of the Daybreak shawl pattern of course:

GA69yarn

Two Runners Up will also receive their very own copy of the pattern as well!! Thanks Walk Collection and Stephen!

I would like you to do the following if you would like to be entered into this week's giveaway:

1. Read over the rules if you have not done so already.

2. Leave a comment on this blog post by the end of Sunday, 9/25/11. I'm curious how many of you shop for yarn on Etsy?

I'll randomly pick the winners in 2 weeks and post the results along with the new giveaway, so be sure to check back. Good luck everyone.

Sincerely,

Ve

What gorgeous yarn! I never have bought yarn off etsy, tho I occasionally admire yarn there. I've been on a budget the last few years and trying to knit out of my stash (which is embarrassingly large).

I have not PURCHASED any yarn on Etsy, but I have purchased silk mawata (which I have yet to use...). There is one particular skein a friend of mine found that will forever be my favorite name: 'discreet clown barf'. Perfection.

I have never bought yarn from Etsy. I think mostly I don't buy yarn online is because I can't touch it and see the colors for myself. But the pictures of the yarn you put up do look scrumptious!

I love touching and feeling the yarn I buy, so I have only shopped one single time on etsy for yarn! The colours must really intrigue me before I decide to give up my tactile experience :) I do love etsy though for items such as button, shawl pins or knitting needles! This is another fab giveaway! Thank you, and enjoy the wedding!

I don't buy yarn from Etsy because my yarn budget is tight and I buy tried and tested stores (read Knit Picks, Elann). Also, shipping to India becomes a pain, thanks to the shipping rates and customs. So, I hardly buy yarn online.

Thanks for always turning me on to more pretty indie dyers - I love seeing what all the clever, creative fiber folks dream up! I'll be make a mosey through to the Walk site in a moment (it'll be a nice change from my higgeldy piggeldy search on Etsy last night!).

Beautiful yarn! Love the little knitting bag, too.

I have purchased yarn from Etsy, and been very happy, but it's definitely a luxury. I'm purposefully postponing spinning, though, because I have an inkling that I won't be able to stop myself then!

I haven't bought yarn on Etsy before but I might if there were enough good "reviews" of the yarn to feel like I wouldn't be gambling on the quality.

I keep forgetting there's yarn on Etsy. I really need to shop there. I love supporting small businesses like that. I, like Sheila, have been trying to knit out of my stash, which is also large. I do, however, have a couple specific projects I want to make that will require yarn purchases in the near future...

I do yarn shop on etsy, but mostly for yarn I already know - people I may have met at local yarn markets or yarn I saw someone else working with. I have a hard time buying yarn I'm not already familiar with online.

Great Daybreak. So lovely colours.
I have done some Etsy-yarn shopping, but my main problem is that when I want yarn I want it NOW. I'm really bad at waiting. Though, when I have done it, the yarn somehow come as a new surprice when I recieve it and I get happy about it one more time. Should do it more often, perhaps.

I've only bought yarn via Etsy once...I have bought other items. All my experiences with Etsy have been very good and I don't know why I do not shop there more often...there are only sooo many dollars that can be spent:(

I've bought yarn a few times on Etsy, but it's usually because that's where yarn I already know of is sold, rather than browsing for new yarns there.

I've never actually purchased yarn on stay, but I have spent some time browsing. I'm hesitant to buy yarn that I can't feel. :P this yarn looks absolutely lovely though, so perhaps I'll reconsider.

Funny you ask since I just made a yarn purchase on etsy about an hour ago! I am not a big shopper in general, though, so don't typically buy a lot of yarn online (I have, at last count, 13 LYS within 30 minutes of me) but there is one dyer whose colorways just take my breath away so I finally put a project together and bought the yarn. I do not have knitting friends (other than those that buy only from the lys - I'm amazed at how un-computer savvy they are, even those that work in the stores!)to talk with about etsy-bought yarns, so still hesitate. I'll just have to take the plunge one of these days.

Beautiful. Yes, I buy quite a bit of yarn on Etsy. I love supporting people who have their own businesses and a lot of talent. Some of the dyers I purchased from when they on Etsy are now established enough to have their own Web site.

I do not shop for yarn on Etsy very often. It is not that I don't want to, but it is a financial issue. I do love browsing through all the shops though.

Etsy is the bomb. I've bought yarn, fiber, buttons and all kinds of wonderful things on Etsy.

I use etsy for yarn when I know the seller personally. I like to have an in-person relationship with what I'm buying. :)

I have bought from Etsy, and received some absolutely gorgeous yarn. I think it is a great way to support indie businesses.

I love buying yarn on Etsy...so many cute indie dyers with low prices and gorgeous colors.

Wow- a wonderful giveaway! I have admired this shawl for a long time. The yarn is beautiful!
Have lurked on etsy. I have not bought, as I have to finish some projects first. At least, that is what I tell myself.
Thanks for a chance!

I have bought yarn from Etsy, a beautiful pink and orange DK wool/bamboo superwash.

I buy from etsy and love it. It's great to browse and find always nice objects for gifts. Sometimes the shipping is expensive, though. Love your yarn. Going to check it on Etsy.

I have bought yarn from Etsy. It was for a kal knit with pattern and yarn included. The pictures of the yarn you put up do look lovely!

I've never actually bought anything on Etsy; just "window shopped". Like lots of folks, I've been feeling a bit of a pinch in the purse, and trying to knit from stash as much a possible. What yarn I buy is almost all from sales. But I can still look!

I have bought yarn from Etsy and the yarn was nice, but the color wasn't what I hoped for. I have thought of overdyeing with KoolAid, but haven't yet.

Will probably buy again. It's fun looking.

I mostly just windowshop on etsy. I like to be able to touch the yarn.

I keep browsing on Etsy, but so far haven't purchased any yarn. I'm very tempted by Walk Collection!

No, I have not shopped or bought any yarn on Etsy. I got burned too many times buying yarn off E-bay and the colors were not anywhere near what was shown. Got tired of trying to make things right with the sellers. I love to feel the fibers and see the colors in person!

I haven't bought yarn on Etsy - yet. I have bought stitch markers though. Knitting friends have bought lovely skeins from YarntopiaTreasures on Etsy and they were thrilled and went back for more!

I am currently on a yarn diet because I went absolutely nuts at Sock Summit!

I have never bought yarn on Etsy but I agree that I do spend a lot of time looking through Etsy. Your shawl turned out gorgeous! I have to admit..I am turning into a Westknits groupie..I mean I am a Westknits groupie. Love his patterns and have already made a few. Will be making more for sure.

I have never bought yarn (or anything) from Etsy. I wish I could say that I had! :-)

I have purchased yarn off of Etsy, but not anything hand-dyed. Instead, I bought some, I suppose you'd call it secondhand?, yarn that the shop owner was destashing.

I love Etsy though, so I'm guessing I'll buy some hand-dyed stuff off there someday!

I window shop for yarn on Etsy, but I mostly make spinning fiber purchases. There are many beautiful yarns to behold on Etsy though and I love that you can find/support independent dyers (and all kinds of other craftspeople) all on one website!
I'm PurlVerde on Ravelry, see you around!

I've never bought anything from Etsy. I really like being able to see things in person, so if I find a yarn (like at a festival) and the seller also uses Etsy, I have looked them up on there.

I have a favorite yarn seller on Etsy ... She dyes these magnificent color ways! She actually custom dyed a color way for me based on one of my suggestions .. Although she did call the color "Vintage" when I described it is "Vampire Bloodbath" ....

Like so many people, I like to look at and touch yarn before I purchase. However, I have bought yarn once off etsy due to strong recommendations and pictures of the knit-up yarn. The color choices for your daybreak are gorgeous.

That is a lovely colourway. I've never bought from Etsy.

I look at etsy sometimes but have never bought anything there. I sure would like to be a winner for your giveaway.

Such gorgeous yarn! I've never purchased yarn on Etsy because it is so enjoyable to visit a LYS to touch and feel all the luscious yarns. However, now that I'm no longer living near a LYS, Etsy may be what I turn to.

Enjoy your time in Napa Valley.
